It will work soon, the servers are currently down, when they come back up so will the link.

Oh, that makes sense, thanks! Let's hope this happens soon. I will be getting two keys, one for the laptop, and one for the main PC (or are there no activation limits? I don't remember how it was with the previous betas).

You can use the same PID on 5 different computers, unlimited activations (unless the public preview is different which is highly unlikely).

5 different computers, so I'm getting two keys... Up until recently, the beta keys of Vista were usable for activating 7 pre-beta installations, so it's best to have a few of the 7 beta keys for the next round in a few years.

I have to say, the buzz around Win7 is completely different from the massive negative pressure on Vista. Even people that didn't like Vista are saying they like Win7. Personally my experience of beta 1 has surpassed expectations. The last build I had (69**) weren't half as snappy and fast as beta 1, telltale of heavy optimization and finishing WDDM v1.1 implementation. What surprises me even more is the Win7 Preview Catalyst 8.12's. The newest WU drivers worked just fine but I wanted the Control Center to enable overclocking and settings, and they're spotless (granted, I've only tested CoD4 and am playing Kings Bounty). All in all a very positive experience on all fronts.
Except one, and that one is hilarious at best (The Inquirer):

Comment Windows ME II SP2
By Egan Orion

That guy spends 99% of the article on whining and blasting at Windows 7. It turns into comedy towards the end though:
Quote: | I haven't actually seen it though, and probably won't even try it out. After all, it's still Windows, and I swore off using any Microsoft software for anything almost ten years ago now. |
The guy hasn't even seen it and is already blasting it based on something that is as far away from common sense and factual knowledge. The comments adds some extra spice to that "article":
Quote: | "I haven't actually seen it though, and probably won't even try it out. " ...on a Windows 7 opinion article. Remind me why I come here again? |
Quote: | How the hell can you comment on, let alone judge an OS that by your own admission you know nothing about, you haven't even tried it, so how the hell can you expect anyone to take anything you say as being anything but you talking out your ass. |
Quote: | Biggest pile of rubbish I've read today and I read the BBC News Technology section, so that's saying something. You've made Charlie seem unbiased you moronic halfwit. |
Quote: | "...will get tired of waiting for Windows 7, or decide not to buy new hardware to support it in the midst of the current economic implosion, and migrate away to Macs..." How are people who can't afford to buy new hardware to support windows 7, going to be able to afford a Mac? |
And my personal favorite:
Quote: | I'm a Linux fan and I can only apologize for this dick's uninformed, highly defensive rant. Truly embarrassing stuff. Please get off my internets please, Mr Orion. You have only served to hurt the reputations of Linux users across the globe. |

Even I'm stoked about Windows 7, and y'all know how negative I am about Vista.
I also think fisk should be unbanned.

Hahahaha love to read ignorant anti-fanboi preaching, it's always so uninformed and bullshit (or otherwise they would not have said the crap they say). You can also see some Youtube videos of such people. The cream of the crop are Mac users however, because Linux/Unix guys usually know what they talk, even if they say it with over-bias. The Mac guys are just comic material. They have no clue of what they are saying, usually repeating something they've read on the internets and they don't fully understand it. Just pure comedy, and the way they speak, they think they are some awesome dudes ala Steve Jobs.
Edit: dominae, W7 will run much faster on the P4/512MB, certainly much faster than Vista, so you are stoked for a reason.

Look up "The Kost" on youtube, I'm quite surprised he's not literally sitting on a high horse with a built-in Macintosh, as he is figuratively. His general attitude pisses me off as well
The only 'issue' I currently face is more of an issue with daemon tools than with W7, as the daemon tools device driver doesn't work with W7.

Yep, it's a problem, and it seems a solution won't be soon found... The devs are basically saying "we won't support beta OS" (even though the beta is more stable than Vista retail), so we have to look for alternative virtual drive options. Alcohol didn't install either from my testing.
This one works well: http://www.slysoft.com/en/virtual-clonedrive.html

Ah well, I've got my Usenet download. I'll just keep refreshing to try for a key.

Absolutely! I've been running Vista for the past 18months and I have LOVED it. Sure it's got issues, all OSes have (even the vaunted OSX, don't even try and say different) but things get better over time. The issues I have with Vista are minor (forgetting folder display settings, etc) but overally the OS is clean, it's fast and it does absolutely everything I want it to do!

I didn't read all the thread so excuse me if this question was asked. Is it possible to upgrade Vista to Win 7? Because I already have Vista installed, and all the drivers and such... was wondering if it's possible...

I doubt it, bud. MS have always disabled the upgrade option in their betas before. I can't see why this would be any different. You could always use Vista's awesome "Backup" tool and then import that into Win7 -- but I don't know if that includes drivers too, or even whether that would be a good idea.

I wouldn't recommend the upgrade option, but it was there during setup. Clean install is the way to go.

that would mean I would have to (again) move all documents from Vista to XP... I'm just too lazy for that Thnx for the reply tho... Oh btw when do they plan to release that thing (non beta, but the real deal)?

I honestly don't know. There's a lot of conflicting answers. Some say June/July 2009, others are Q4-2009, others still say Q1-2010.
The beta doesn't expire until August this year, so I'd say you could pretty much rule out a June/July retail release.

And knowing our MS friends I can already see the titles: Windows 7 postponed for... or Several major security risk found, release postponed to... Well I can wait (who knows maybe I'll buy new computer after the summer, and then I'll be ready for this )

I'm pretty impressed with Win 7 so far. Haven't encountered any problems at all. Windows 7 is running smoother than Vista for me and it's noticable.
