Pat Condell is my fave atheist stand-up artist dealing with religion in a straight and powerful way. He's recorded monologues for a couple of years and they're always interesting and sometimes angry.
Brilliant, I got another hero after Richard Dawkins. There is actually a discussion with Dawkins, Dennett, Harris, Hitchens (The four Horsemen) discussing Atheism vs Religion etc, linked on that page .
So does the Japanese and they are Shinto Buddhists .
We Nordic ppl actually celebrated "mid vinter blod" = "mid winter blood" we simply swapped that to Xmas when Christianity rolled in .

But you can't claim we celebrate christmas in a religious sense. I think we have the most secular christmas possible, and very few are actually celebrating jesus. We celebrate as a tradition where families get together. We don't even call it Christ Mass, we call it Yule, from our heathen past.
I suppose it would be called "Kristmässa" in Swedish if it were to be a purely christian tradition. Thankfully it doesn't and I don't have to feel like a hypocrite for saying God Jul.
I would say we gore in consumerism anyway, so Xmas is a real good time to gore some more. And somehow I guess Its fun for the kids .
And yes it is one of those rare occasions when modern families actually get together, so in that sense I guess that ol saga about Jesus &Co have done some good .
