What about Arcade consoles then? |
tbf you would probably want the hdd enclosure instead of mounting one into the console itself

Well, the hdd cases are sometimes available for purchase. Or you can attach the SATA cable to the motherboard. Anyway I was wondering where to get these security sector or whatever you need to hack the HDD if you do not have a 20GB drive.

the 120gb hddss.bin is usually kicking about in the usual torrent haunts or people ul it to r/s for forum use

I don't seriously believe that this hdd mod would get anyone banned from live... it's the dvd drive flashings that do

It would be easy for them to detect yes. I know a few who haven't been banned for this mod and its been on the go for months.
MS have very little to lose over it anyway . you in theory could buy more dlc via live or install more games . buy a few more films and such . Now why would they possibly go out of the way to ban someone from live for this ?

ive had a hacked 120gb hd for a couple of months, no ban here. I doubt they would ban because of that.

It's been a while that Microsoft did not make a round-ban because of hacked HDD... but who knows when it will happen again. There is not so much leaked signatures out there for 120GB HDD so it's easy for Microsoft to detect them. (If you want some info about that, check some post from "The Specialist" guy on xboxhacker.net). I think it's more safe to buy a 20GB / 60GB Hacked HDD for that reason.

Simple solution is do what I did, buy an official 120gb HDD cheap from Ebay, copy the hddss.bin and clone it then sell the official one on Ebay yourself (or other selling website), thus you save as much as everyone else by cloning but you're using a virtually unique Hddss.bin rather than the one that's being used by x thousands of people around the world.

Except if that HDD you bought had been used for cloning purposes already before. : )

If its from china , Its probably using someone elses signature and been vacuum sealed to make it look official

Right, he's got 50k+ sales to US with 99.9% positive rating. You think your walmart bought 120gb hd won't be from China? It's ALL made in China! |
yeah because 100% of the goods that come from china are legitimate
If I ebay 120gb hdd I bet 9 times out of 10 the ones from china are Not official yet claim to be . just have to look at the packaging majority of the time
And the sig is the ss.bin , call it what you may

That makes no sense. If it's 100% legitimate, what is the problem? The ratings on Ebay is what keeps big sellers selling, if it wasn't working or someone got banned for using these drives, you would NOT see this seller again, his ratings would reflect that.
If he was faking the ss.bin (why would he need to do this if the drives are official?), people would get banned and he would loose all business faster than you can sneeze.
It's all much simpler, he works or has someone who works at the accessory factories and steals them. But I assure you, your xbox and the hd's bought in US are from China, 100%.

If its works as intended then why would get the negative feedback ? No bannings have occured as far as anyone is aware for the hdd mod
People get a cheap hdd without even considering that there are clones out there that do the exact same job as the official , all they know is it works and they got a bargain
and if you did notice I added a " " after the post . I have no way of knowing its official but the second you mention china and ebay alarm bells would ring in most peoples ears
as for working in the factory , Its the same excuse for nearly every counterfeit good there is. Clothing , dreambox and r4 clones and the likes

Well then you're speculating. If nobody is banned for a modded hd right now as you claim (when others say otherwise) it's a moot point as to criticize hd's bought on Ebay, because you won't get banned in either case.
If they do ban for it, as others mentioned, it is a concern and thus the seller after selling dozens of these each day, would immediately get a large feedback drop.
I agree with you on buying "authentic" clothing on ebay or others things, those are fake, but with certain electronics that are mass produced, like 360, PS3, PS2, etc, it's not.
It's like stating that they sell "fake" PS2s on ebay, there's no such thing.

What an authentic looking box cover . you think electronics can't be "faked" then look into the cable receiver market , cell phones and such . hell news over christmas about a fake batch of nds's all over the place as well ( probably 2nds )
If you think that all the hdd thats come from the asian ebay market are legitimate then fine think that way . But when the hack was released the amount on sale sky rocketed

That simply shows that it's not been marked up for sale in the US, doesn't mean it's not an official hd.
If nobody's getting banned, then why are there people worrying about it and #xbins mods have confirmed that it does get you banned?
I know there are fake goods, this doesn't work on ebay however. Nobody who sells anything for a long time can get away with stuff like this for long, because you will get negative feedback ultimately and have to close down.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
Oh boy are you naive. I mean truly mean no offense, but you've got this all wrong mate. eBay is a HAVEN for counterfeit goods.
You think high feedback rating means everything is legit?

That seller has over 3000 good feedback -- yet do you REALLY think he's selling a legit 4GB MSD Pro for ... *chuckle* £5? That's as fake as a 3 bob note. Do you know WHY he has such good feedback? Because the device works, fake or not. Please don't try and tell me his goods are real, because they're not. I've bought plenty of 4GB sticks off eBay and they've ALL been fake.
Just accept it dude, the HDD you bought is F A K E. It's not economically viable for that 360 120GB HDD to be REAL if it only cost $80. It works, great! Good for you. But it's NOT legitimate.

Alright, so if its fake, the same forum says MS is not banning for it.
If they start banning for it, are they really gonna ban all the kids who's parents bought it for them? There's nothing out there from MS about this, and this can happen to anyone (unlike a modded dvd firmware). So, even if its fake and it works, and they don't ban, i'll be happy.

Nobody said you would get banned for it, bud. From what we know (and trust me; when someone says "you WILL or WON'T definitely!!!" get banned for something, they're talking out of their arse because nobody but Microsoft THEMSELVES knows how and what to ban for) there hasn't been a single recorded case of being banned for using a spoof hdd.
All we were doing was trying to tell you that what you paid for, whether it works or not (and it's most like the WD Scorpio drive with a spoofed ss.bin) it ISN'T an official MS drive. It isn't.

Alright, so long as it works. It would create a lot of heat for MS to ban for fake 120 hd's, a LOT of people bought them, it's not their fault.

Exactly! I honestly doubt MS would ban for having a non-official HDD, even if they could trace via the ss.bin.

I mean if they had some sort of mechanism to reject a fake, like they obviously do with the games themselves, they can blame it on the person circumventing the protection on purpose, since you can't be a victim in this case.
But they haven't done it with the HD if it can be so easily faked. I'm sure they would if they could easily prove that's it's your fault, like with firmware, but because it's an accessory and not the main component, like the dvd drive, it can be done, but they would then have to ban for fake controllers as well, those are cloned en masse, there would be a lot of lawsuits.

in uk no need to hack anything i just got my 120 gig retail for £50. from tesco.
As for framerate, the 360 version runs smooth, while the PS3 is a jaggy mess that chugs along in slow motion.
