Hate asking again... any step by step tutorial on how to start a normal local Lan game, using 2 PC's, both with wlan and a router? I don't need hamachi for this do I? I can see my mates PC in the windows explrer network menu, but if I host a lan game or he does we don't see each other...

you don't need hamachi to play lan and multiplayer general. just get a key from an other live game and it should work

Well, you don't need any key to play it via LAN
If you want to play the game on the local lan (example: 2 computers connected to a router/switch), you don't need hamachi. And if you want to play with your friend trhough internet, you need hamachi, because it emulates as if you were on a LAN
But for both cases:
To create a game , just start the game, in the cellphone menu, select multiplayer, "Player Match" -> "LAN" -> "Create Match" Create a game and make it whatever you like. (ex: Free Mode)
To join a game, in-game press the "up" key to bring out the cellphone and press "Multiplayer".
Create a model if necessary and click on "Player Match" -> "LAN" -> "Custom Match" and press F5 to find the servers.
And of course, you both need to have same versions of GTA!
P.S : To make the GTA work via Hamachi, you must override the default network adapter, with that hamach one. to do so:
1) Go to START -> RUN...
2) Type in: regedit
and press Enter or click on OK
3) Click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Classes -> Software -> Microsoft and click on XLive (do not click the "+")
4) Now on your right, right click on the empty background and select:
New -> String Value
5) Name the new value: ConnectionOverride
Press OK
6) Now right click on the new String Value called "ConnectionOverride" and click Modify
7) Type in: Hamachi in the Value field and press OK
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW TO CHECK
The steps above will make Games For Windows Live use the Hamachi Network Adapter as the Default connection to play the game online.
So, now start the game using the "LaunchGTAIV.exe"
and make sure Games For Windows Live now uses Hamachi.
You can do this by pressing the "Home" Key, clicking on Personal Settings and then click on Network Information. It should now say "Hamachi (registry overrided)" next to Adapter.
IF YOU WANT TO PLAY THE GAME ON THE LAN AGAIN, JUST DELETE THE REGISTRY ENTRY
SEEN? NOW YOU CAN SHOT ALL DA BUMBACLOTS! ONE LOVE, PEACE

They said the same thing about the previous games, but in the end each game had tons of custom cars available after a while. The modders just need to figure stuff out first.

Does my router have to be configured to play over Wlan? I can see my freinds PC when I go on networks in the explorer, but in GTA he can't see me whe I create a new game. Any ports that have to given free on the router, or any firewalls that have to be deactivated?

Then during the holidays, I tried installing on my father's PC which has an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 and a GeForce 9800GT, running Windows XP 32-bit. And guess what? The game was fully playable, good performance, no crashes whatsoever, no BSODs, nothing.
That got me thinking, so I erased Vista and got XP running again. And my oh my. The performance is great even though I don't have the settings pretty high, just high enough to not encounter pop-ins and still have decent graphics and framerate, and I'm getting a constant >30FPS everywhere with the 180.48s and the 181.00s.
So, sorry, but either Microsoft is at fault, or NVidia is. And I don't care really. I want games to just work, and I don't have that much time to waste on just messing around to get them to work with hacks and command line switches and so on. On XP, for me at least and on my current rig, GTA4 just works. And it works smoothly. |
Hehe, the contrary happened to me. I got GTA4 running on WinXP 32-Bit. It crashed constantly and the performance was poor. After installing Vista 32-Bit (including all Updates) the game was fully playable and never crashed, except once.
My rig: AMD Athlon 5000+ @ 3GHz, 8800GT, 4GB (~ 3.3 GB, due to Vista 32-Bit), Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H, all unnecessary services deactivated, Aero-Glass activated.
Can't complain...

Sorry to bring this up, but I hadn't had the nerve to check every page up.
So here's my question: When I install the 1.01 patch from the exe installer downloaded from the net, does the Razor1991 no dvd work on that, or do I need to wait for sth to solve that?
Thx

I have a few questions about X360 gamepad.
Is the wired X360 gamepad works on PC?
Is the X360 for PC gamepad works on X360?
If yes, are these two more or less the same thing?

wired 360pad works on pc -> yes
x360 for pc gamepad owrks on x360 -> yes
same shit, x360 for pc gamepad only ships with an extra driver disc for windows xp. vista has drivers onboard.
wireless 360pads also work with the pc. but you need a receiver ~20 bucks. you can connect four wireless pads a time with it to you pc

Has anyone successfully used mods via lan+hamachi or even just online?, I mean the famous ones, ragdoll, bullettime etc. I came across a video the other day of the exact mods I listed that were used in the video and it seemed to be 2 guys using it. What's the secret? the new xlive wrapper disables multi all together, I'm guessing just use the old wrapper and not update the game to 1.01 or whatever the latest version is?.

Both of the Live wrappers disable MP so you need to use the older method to trick file validation and run the game with modified content together with Live and Rockstar Social Club.
Using modifications online is unsupported though I doubt you could get in trouble for using modifications but it could affect the game a bit.
(Best result would probably be using your own server with everyone having the same modifications.)
A quick method would be to use the "magic" patch on the GTA IV forums.
(Magic IV or whatever it was called, automated the process.)

So just by using "magic iv" I should be able to establish a lan game or whichever with friends, same mods, patches and be good to go?, I'm guessing what you meant by older method for tricking file validation is to use magic IV?
