This certainly isn't criticism but just a odd thought. Why don't the survivors travel from on top of the roofs of buildings? All they would need is a solid long board and walk across it. If they come across a larger building they are currently on and can't reach the roof then they could simply aim for a window break it as quietly as possible and then head to the roof and continue on. I know this would kill the game but god damn its just common sense to find safer ways to travel.
They do that every now and then. But it's pretty risky with a smoker or tank around. One shot and you are pushed/pulled off the building.
I personally want to see a dedicated Mall scneario and I wouldn't mind seeing some crawling infected that can crawl out from under cars... maybe with their limbs missing. or hell, being able to blow off legs and have them still crawl toward you.
There's is a map/mod in the works for this already: Dead Before Dawn
Of course its not all about advantages Bill will have a slower running speed for example because of his age.
No way. If it was like that, Bill would get killed at every tank you face.
Another thing that really bothers me is the hunters and their pounce. I can see Zoey or Bill being helpless but Francis is a large man and I really can't see how he gets dominated by the small hunters like that. Louis I believe could get the hunter off as well. I know the hunters pounce forces coop play but they should have made it more believable. I say they reskin the hunter and make it something bad ass instead of what appears to be a hooded rapist.
Even though Francis is really buff, I don't think anyone would be able to fight someone who is sitting on top of you, ripping your intestines out.

Of course there would be many tweaks made to the game to make it as balanced as possible.
I find it unbelievable that we have 4 people with very different body types and backgrounds have the same endurance, speed, strength and aim.

Even if we were to use our imagination with the"ripping your intestines out" this would obviously not be done instantly by the hunter otherwise once pounced it wouldn't matter if your rescued when injured so badly.
With the mixture of both Francis large size and the adrenaline he would have I say he would knock the hunter off of him. If the hunter wasn't a little shrimp or if it was a totally different skin that would make more sense like if it had hooks then this wouldn't be a issue.
If you still don't think I am right then go ahead and try it yourself. Get someone who is maybe 1/3rd your weight and much shorter than you to go on top of you. I bet you get this person off you and that's without adrenaline with it you are going to send the person flying away.

Depends on how the person is on top... in MMA we call that position the Hunter gets in "The Mounted" position.
I can guarantee you that you will have a hard time getting someone off you in that position no matter the weight difference unless it is some 98 lb. when wet weakling.
Even with adrenaline.
Your pinned on your back and the floor will stop your arms from bending back completely so its hard to get a punch in with any force. And, it's hard to push the person off because 1) There isn't anything to push on... what are you going to push? Their knees? And 2) because you can't bend your arms completely back... its like trying to do a really difficult bench press. The person on top has all the space in the world to rain down blows on you. You can't just "send them flying".
What usually happens is a person will turn to their stomach to avoid the rain of damage. With a trained Jiu-jitsu person on top... this leads to a choke or various other things like broken limbs. With an untrained person on top and bottom. . . you'd probably be able to squirm away but you're going to take damage.

Notice in the video however the the smaller woman is obviously hold the hands down. This is not what goes on within the game with the Hunter the survivors arms are completely free and the hunter does not put his legs under the survivor . In fact this just sparked the thought of the survivor no matter who gets pounced on would most likely be able to grab their handgun from the holster.
The more the Hunter's pounce is examined the less sense it really makes.

You don't have to have the legs under neath and you don't have to have your arms pinning the other persons arms down. Thats the dream starting point however. But, The idea is to raise up and rain blows down and you cant do that if all you do is hold the other persons arms down. Trust me. i have been to a local MMA school here and rolled with those guys and it ain't easy to get someone off you from that position. And, I am a big guy. Bigger than any of the guys there.
Regardless, my only point is, you wont ever simply throw someone off you when they are in this position over you and beating on you. It's the worse possible position to be in when you're on the ground.
i see no reason why someone couldn't pull a gun though if they had one holstered.
1 stripe purple belt in JiuJitsu (good grief this takes FOREVER hahah)

How about zombies with 100 meter long tongues, fat zombies vomiting all over you, etc? All this makes sense but the Hunter's pounce doesn't?
I can understand those because of the mutation just like the hunters high agility caused by such. Its at least explainable and is actually explained in the intro movie. However its unexplained why the survivors are helpless against the hunter once pounced. I'm just asking for something that makes sense even within the games reality.
Remember this is a game where you can simply push away hordes of zombies with no problem. So where the hell is that strength suddenly going once pounced?

I'm not arguing the fact that someone who knows what they are doing can effectively use that position to a major advantage. Even more so if the person keeps pounding the other persons face.
However in the hunter's case this really is a crazy person with form of rabies whom simply scratches at the survivors chest. With what its doing would no doubt leave the opportunity to either shoot it off or knock it off. Since the arms of the survivor are 100% free I can't see why the survivor doesn't simply grab the wrists of the hunter and stop it from hitting them. Again I can see Zoey or Bill failing to have enough strength to do with and Louis I will accept as debatable but Francis no doubt could.
In fact from watching a video on youtube of the hunters pounce it appears that the hunter isn't actually sitting on the survivor at all. The hunter's legs are spread far apart and it looks like there is a gap in between the survivor and the hunter. I would say its doing more of a kneel above the survivor more than a sit.
Ok installed the manual patches 1.08 and 1.10 now its asking for steam, maybe i misunderstood or whatevwer but I dont do steam. can you do the 1.08 patch and still not require steam, just play the single player, nice fun FPS to blow some time on here and there, no online play for me though.

there aren't manual patches for steam games. you have just to run steam and to have the game bought to get all working
To be fair, the hunter does have very sharp claws. Whenever he's on top of you cutting you, it'd probably be like getting cut by knives. He also probably has incredible leg (atleast) strength, being able to leap and wall jump.
However in the hunter's case this really is a crazy person with form of rabies whom simply scratches at the survivors chest.
So you seem to be claiming that the "infection" in L4D is a form of rabies. I'm interested in what kind of rabies can cause people to have hundred-foot-long tongues with immense prehensile strength, and cause their bodies to bloat to massive size and explode on contact, and to mutate into gigantic fighting machines.
NuclearShadow, your arguments about the Hunter in particular being "unrealistic" are really, quite frankly (and no offense), completely stupid. The hunter is able to pin you, because this is a designed gameplay mechanic of the game, just like everything else about the gameplay. You must remember that L4D is a videogame, not a simulator. It has no pretensions of being realistic on a "simulation" level.
Same goes for all of the characters playing identically. This is for the sake of pure fantasy gameplay mechanics (and I think there is little question that L4D falls squarely into the realm of "fantasy," on the realism scale), rather than adhering to a realistic simulation mentality. It's the same as how every character in Unreal Tournament is identical, or how every single soldier unit in your average RTS game is perfectly identical.

There was also a retail release of the game I think. (1 dvd)
The retail release of the game must be activated on Steam when it's installed, and Steam handles all of the updates after that. That patch is for pirates, and pirates only.

OK after trying a couple patches out in the world I give up, reinstalling the skidrow release csmania.ru version. does anyone know on the last page installing there are three choices one has "english" plainly there so I tick that one the other has 2 choices that seem to be just a little different from each other but of course russian does not display correctly on my comp, does anyone know what they are, I chose the 1st one last time but was wondering what they were for?
