|
 |
Yo.
As the official swap magic site is absolutely useless, I'm wondering if maybe someone here is familiar with Swap Magic. I never used it before, and it's kinda hard to find reliable info on it.
So my question is, will Swap Magic 3.6 with that.. slide card v3 thingy work with the latest compact ps2? That's the one with the lower weight and integrated power supply that was only released outside of japan a few months ago I think.
The official swap magic website says:
Quote: | Supports all PS2 Models including the latest one: SCPH-70000 |
which confuses me a bit as SCPH-70000 is like V12 and is 4 or 5 years old. I think we're at V18 currently or something.
But an auction where I'd buy swap magic 3.6 + slide tool says it does work with all PS2s including the actual latest compact V18 ps2.
Just not sure what's the correct information there.
Help me out please :-)
If you have any other thoughts on Swap Magic, let me know as well.
Does it work well? Is it a better idea than a modchip? etc
--edit:
Just wanted to mention that I currently have 2 options:
PS2 + Swap Magic for 130€
or
PS2 + Modbo Modchip + Modchip installation (which I'm unable to do myself) for 169€

Yeah I checked out USBAdvance, but there are just too many games that don't work with it.
HDLoader would be nice, seems to support everything I need, but after having 2 PS2s die on me already, I definitely want one with warranty. Getting some 3 year old, used, fat PS2 is just too risky.
How did you break your ps2 drives with swap magic?

don't ask me HOW it happened. but after a while, one ran all burned games, but gave me reading errors, while the other one didn't "like" burned games, but at least it didn't give me reading errors. always used good media, both PS2s were the same versions. strange thing.
oh yeah, and using the slide tool fucks up your disc tray motors.
btw, don't you need to build in a flip top cover for the new slim ps2? if that's the case, get a modchip if you have to disassemble it anyway

Can't you get a new premoded PS2 slims there for a reasonable price? Buying used is a bad idea (for many reasons). Using HDD for ps2 is meh.
I got a brand new premodded PS2 slim myself last summer and it's been nothing but perfect.

To answer your question; Yes. Swap Magic works on ALL versions of the PS2. I had 3.6 (they're up to 3.8 now, aren't they?) and it ran perfectly on my V12 Slim PS2.
If you run it on the Slim PS2, you don't damage the tray with constant moving and pulling thanks to the Slide Tool. You get a few pieces of metal (or plastic, depending on what supplier you get it from) that clip onto the sensors inside the lid. When you want to change the disk, you just press Eject and swap the disk. No messing about, no damaged to tray.
