Only the final DLC will allow you to play after you have finished the game with the same character. So if you finished the game already, you will need to use an earlier save or use a new character.

Only the final DLC is supposed to raise the level cap above 20. Part of the reason is since you continue after the main story, they need to give you some incentive to keep going with your character.

But you can do that now with the 'FreePlay' mod.

Aye, nice one! I've no doubt already got 30 out of those 50 .. and then some, heh. I've currently got around 2-3GB total mods installed. I love the modding community!

That FreePlay mod will probably make you waste a lot of game time as you will probably need a gamesave right before the end of the final Quest to play the final DLC. It is easy to just avoid the final Quest and do all the exploring you want then finish up the game when the DLC arrives if you really care not to waste any game time or you can beat the game and start a new character trying to play with a different Karma level and see how it is.

I found the two bsa files and the esm file online, but how do I play the expansion now? Do I need to do something besides putting the three files in my Data directory?

Just put them in the Data folder and select the files in your FO3 launcher or FOMM.

I ran the FO3 launcher, and ticked the box. Do I untick the FO3 box (seems unlikely, but wondering). I read that you should get a new radio distress call shortly after loading the game, but I'm not getting it. Do I need to be in a specific place on the map?

I don't know mate, I've not installed it yet. I'll give it a blast in a bit and see what happens.
You probably have to do what was mentioned earlier, by putting the filenames inside your Fallout.ini file (search back a few posts/pages)

It's not working, richard? Works fine for me, but I had to install the latest patch
Epsilon: Game is great btw, I love it, so far it's a definite goty. It's remarkable how much has changed since the beta, stardock have been working their asses off, and it shows.

Wow, that was pretty fun. I didn't buy, but I did buy FO3 itself. Most DLC releases are crap compared to this. I'd say it's about 4 hours long, 2 if you fuckin MOTOR through it. The downside is, well, the pretty obvious part -- isn't much fun after you've done it once.

Sorry about the delay guys.. I thought I'd already posted.
Installed. Patched with the 1.1.0.35 US patch (UK patch breaks Windows Live) Extracted .ESM and two .BSA files to DATA folder. Ran FO Launcher and made sure "Anchorage.esm" was ticked. I then, just for good measure, ran FOMM and made sure it was ticked THERE too. Loaded game, within 10 minutes of play I got a distress call from the Outcasts, signifying the start of the DLC quest.
Oh and for the record, make sure you have - and use - the following app if you're modding FO3;
hxxp://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=944
All you've got to do is load it, click Activate, and that's it! No more messing around with archiveinvalidated.txt or other such nonsense.
Quote: |
This little program will allow you to totally eliminate the need of ArchiveInvalidation.txt! But how does it work? It works by adding a dummy texture BSA to the start of the BSA load list, this stops Fallout 3's ArchiveInvalidation from running on its main texture BSA allowing any texture replacements you have to work automatically without the need to do anything ever again.
|
It works for ANY files you install, not just textures, and it only needs to be activated once per install.

FallOut Mod Manager. Similar tot the Oblivion one if you've ever used it.
Any reviews about the DLC?
