So you only like driving games when there's a driver in the seat?
I think you have the wrong reasons for liking driving games. Driving games are about cars, not drivers.
You're saying that everything else about Burnout doesn't matter, no matter how good the game is, just because there isn't a modeled driver?
Again, the only reason Flatout has drivers is for gimmicky ragdoll throwing mini-games, and as a gimmick for when you crash. Burnout doesn't rely on such cheap gimmicks for it's fun factor.

Wow. You're using a review from one of the stupidest, most unfunny motherfuckers on the entire internet to diss Burnout.
Pathetic.

Ever heard of Crysis? World of Warcraft? Spore? And going back a few years, Doom 3, Half-Life 2, et cetera?
Advertised and hyped to death.

i likes ragdollz.
and yahtzee is funny lots of times. and he prolly dissed it on good reasons. that don't mean burnout sucks though. it just means that you took yahtzee's jokes/criticisms personally, therefore you couldn't find them funny.
burnout is mostly cool, yahtzee is sometimes funny and sometimes right.
is everyone happy now?

No, it doesn't mean that. It's simply that I find that moron painfully and intolerably unfunny.
And it's not just him. I hate all of the shitty "angry" and "snarky" videogame "comedians.' Angry Video Game Nerd, Yahtzee, Screwattack, all of that crap. It all sucks.

No. He is never funny.

summary of cedge's argument in counterpoint form:
yahtzee is funny
burnout does suck
racing games need people in them
lol having opinions on entertainment peices is such a shit storm, if you love something, there's instantly nothing wrong with it in any shape or form and anyone who says otherwise is a tosser. especially people who can't reply (yahtzee).
my point? racing games dooo need ragdolls imo, even if burnout is great.

I prefer AVGN, to be honest. While Yahtzee is occasionally funny (on his older videos, the new ones are boring for me, basically him just ranting boringly), AVGN is almost always funny in his videos, mainly because of all the cheesy effects and the choice of games. He rarely "reviews" mainstream games, and only chooses the lulz-worthy ones.

Probably because trial is getting released on the same day as retail version.

Just like for many other games in the past? In preparation for retail release there is a patch available few days in advance, I really don't see how can that still be surprising to anyone.

As far as I can see the game is available on EA store, perhaps due to that 3 day early bonus for pre-ordering from EA store.
(Site automatically identifies your country and sets various options according to stuff like price and availability so the above direct link might not be fully accurate outside Sweden.)
EDIT: Downloading the patch as well, will see if I can get a changelog or something, I don't own the game though as I'm not much of a "race" person but it seems quite good.
EDIT: 7-zip packed it seems, password protected from alterations though so I can't use it.
EDIT: Data-file found and extracted successfully, could get the reg entries that way and fake it into thinking it's installed.
It's this line.
Code: |
-- Location method: Registry key
-- Read a folder path from the Registry.
if not g_InstalledVersion then
local MainKey = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE;
local SubKey = SessionVar.Expand("Software\\EA Games\\Burnout(TM) Paradise The Ultimate Box");
local ValueName = "Install Dir";
local FolderPath = Registry.GetValue(MainKey, SubKey, ValueName);
g_InstalledVersion = VisualPatch.CheckFolderVersion("%AppFolder%", FolderPath);
if g_InstalledVersion then
SessionVar.Set("%AppFolder%", FolderPath);

Haha, I have a 24/1 connection so downloading is no problems but uploading takes a while, not to mention the SecuROM activation system used as the games protection.
Download is nearly finished by the way, about 10 minutes to go and then unless there are any other problems I'll just need to install it.
EDIT: Installing, seems everything worked.
EDIT: Installer gives a option for a trial setup, I still can't upload the files though.
(In addition to a normal install that is, key was accepted just fine.)
EDIT: Installation worked as well, pretty fast too.
EDIT: Launcher contains options for the graphics card used, resolution, number of monitors, Anti-Aliasing, overall quality level, web camera and speaker setup.
Patch appears to only alter EXE file in addition to the version.txt file which contains the version number, unsure what's fixed.

Played a while, would have replied sooner but I got stuck in the main menu, thought F1 showed general statistics and F2 showed the store but it cycles between menu screens.
This also affected quality so most screens are with options set to medium/average and the others with everything set to max, it's pretty noticeable but car/texture detail didn't differ that much.
There's a ton of events and stuff in the city and it's fully online if you sign on with your EA account, also has options to customize your profile with various stuff to unlock depending on how well you're doing. (Upgraded my car and also seems I own two bikes by completing the first race, have done some minor stuff like finding shortcuts and jumps and breaking billboards as well.)
Game uses online advertising, noticed a burger ad I first saw in Far Cry 2 for example.
Oh and game runs at 60 FPS max all the time.
(VSync is supposed to be disabled but ATI CCC will re-enable it if there's a problem with the title or by default unless otherwise specified, this is default I suppose as I don't think there's a specific game profile for this title yet.)
I'll post a few screens as soon as I've sorted them, game looks good in my opinion and it's very fun.
EDIT:
Most current screen, everything set as high as possible aside from motion blur which instead of being fully enabled is only enabled in the "bumper" setting. (Camera probably.)
Game slowed down here and really showed different angles of the crash, early in the game with the first car I received.
(Medium options as mentioned.)
So far all vehicles I've received has been in this state, still driveable but easily repairable by driving to the nearest station.
Everything at highest again looking out over the city, not the best screen but it's better in motion (That burger ad is also present.)
Limited map and statistics, there's a bunch of different screens and there's no point in capturing stills of the menu or my profile page.
