For UT2004, quite a fun game and from what I can remember you can play it COOP with a few friends. Smile

The X-Tended Mod 0.7.5 - X3: Reunion

Nearly must have for this game, improves and seamlessly adds so much extra content.

BiG World Project (BWP) v5.7 - Baldur's Gate series

Bit of a cheat since it's a megamod combining a massive amount of mods together, but any serious BG fan just has to experience this.

Eastern Sun - Diablo 2

Great if you're bored with vanilla but itching for more hack-n-loot. Insane amount of new cube recipes & items, new enemies, skills & areas etc

T2X - Shadows of the Metal Age - Thief 2

"T2X is a huge undertaking, with new missions, new characters, new weapons and equipment, and all that other good stuff. It's a full-out expansion pack for T2.
With 13 missions, new audio including 3000 lines of new dialogue, four cutscenes, a full set of briefings and a new art set, the final build of T2X weighs in at 655.8 megabytes."

Oblivion mods.. Playing it with Oscuros Overhaul, Mart's monster mod, Midas, Immersive Interface, All Natural, RealHunger, Realistic Fatigue and a ton of other mods is a fantastic experience. But it took like a week to set up (to research, make corrections, tweaking etc). Most fun i've had with a modded game.

I had lots of fun with "Killing Floor" for UT2004, some maps there are truly great. IMO it's even better than Left4Dead (which is like a rip-off of KF - nice gfx but more boring maps and often really anoying people who plays).

If you like silly fps coop action

http://www.svencoop.com

for HL1. I must of spent a month total ingame time playing this with 5-6 of my mates at LANs. It's the biggest single contributor to my (l33t) fps skillz. Many many great moments.

John P's magnificent upgrade packs for Thief 3 and Deus Ex 2. The Xbox versions had horrific textures, bland and ugly, which unfortunately for us - transferred over to the PC versions too. John P fixes all that with his texture packs.

Obsidian Conflict for HL2, pretty much Sven Coop in Source. A great mod.

Afraid of Monsters, for HL1. Horror mod that is very well done, and very scary.

Insurgency for HL2. Pretty good modern infantry combat mod. Focus on realism.

Killing Floor for UT2004, pretty cool co-op survival mod. You earn money, buy equipment, earn perks etc.

Almost forgot. Hidden: Source, for HL2. Fucking awesome mod with 4 or so friends. Nothing like it, when you know the hidden is near you, just waiting to kill one of you grinhurt

1.13 for Jagged Alliance 2
http://ja2v113.pbwiki.com/

Not really a mod in itself but acts as a base for other mods. Externalizes pretty much every aspect of the game so that modding comes down to changing a few option in drop down menus. Add a lot of fluff too, somewhere around 700-1000 different guns with attachments. Very Happy Its freakin incredible!

Stainless Steel for Medieval 2 Total War
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=159996

Makes the game what it was meant to be. Its by far one of the most polished and professional mods I've ever played.

Seconding Fall From Heaven II for Civilization 4 and X-Tended for X3: Reunion

One for those of you that hated the pseudo-FPS aspect of FO3 and wanted purely skill-based combat instead;

Combat_Overhaul. Fallout 1/2 purists will hate it, as it completely removes VATS and and does away with the stat-based combat, but those of the FPS persuasion (the ones that were like "WTF? Why should a number influence whether or not I hit what I'm aiming at!?) will fully appreciate this mod.

.... word to the wise; the new system affects player AND AI combat. Now you hit what you're aiming at, damage has been proportionately increase to do away with the "trading blows" aspect of the game, and range has also been increased --- but that affects AI characters too! They hit more, they hit harder, they hit from further away. You'll need SKILL to beat the game now, and not just a buttload of stat points.

System Shock 2 - re-texturing, re-modeling and unofficial script/bug fixes.

TES3: Morrowind - too many to list. They basically take a generally ugly (with the standard of the last few years) game and turns it into an amazingly detailed, pretty and rich game (add thousands of trees with shadows of the canopies etc.). Easily the most impressive modding community on this one.

Here's just a few examples;

 Spoiler:

So there's definitely a noticeably improved difference. I won't play DE2 (or T3) without those packs now. There's just no points. Oh and the packs don't just offer upgraded textures, but completely new suits/appearanced for Alex Denton (male or female) Including one that gives you the biomodified "glow" to your eyes. Awesome stuff.

I haven't played NWN in years.... but I *definitely* preferred it to the shitty lag-fest that was NWN2. Obsidian always takes a great thing and ruins it.

Thanks Epsilon, I'm gonna check out PRC Smile
