Ok so I am trying to disable HT on a Gateway machine, Dell/HP/Gateway etc all use specialized Bios' (mine is an AMI bios) with many functions disabled to keep less than savvy people from screwing with settings that fall outside the normal scope of customer service. After spending 30 mins on the chat with a Gateway tech, he insisted that if I use the default bios setting that everything previously disabled would 'appear.' Which seems false to me.

So my question is: is my best bet flashing the bios?, or is there some backdoor that I can get into?

why do u want to disable HT in a first place?
and yes usually well in my experience if i set bios to it's default settings it reanables most main functions

still don't understand what u trying to do there, if u want to keep ppl from screwing around with bios just put password in

For Oracle mainly.

Thank you for responding, I was able to set the number of processors to '4' in the advanced boot options in 'msconfig' (Vista 64.) and was able to work around my problem.

Anyway, problem resolved.
