there was a bunch of news articles last week referring to the game as an "obama simulator"
they didn't even mention the name of the game in any of the articles
had to google the name of the game designer to confirm that it was indeed GPS

AFAIK they are making a scenario where you take the role of Obama - and probably McCain too I guess.
ehheh.. rather irrelevant which it supposedly is as it's the player playing it, with the player's policies rather than theirs
unless if party affiliation is simulated and adds restrictions?
i wish they have
PRESS RELEASE
IGS' NEW PC GAME COMMANDER IN CHIEF PUTS PLAYERS IN PRESIDENT OBAMA'S SHOES; AVAILABLE INAUGURATION DAY JANUARY 20, 2009.
----
available at $39.95.
Just picked this up today for 29.99 at Game stop. I'm installing it now. I'll try to do a mini review in a bit. I haven't played 2008 so 2009 will be new for me.
Well, I've only had a small time to play this over the last day. I'm gonna start a new game now.
It's hard for me to compare/list bugs as I have not played the first one.
So far I like the game play but you really have to like sim/strat type games to like this. It's niche for sure.
It is not worth the hefty price tag from last year, but for 30 , it's ok.
I didn't notice any translation issues but it's still early.
I also think the interface kinda sucks. The menus/interface looks and handles like it was coded by a 12 year old. And mind you I did write some when I was in my teens that were not much different.
Limited resolution options but there seems to be on low res wide screen one that's workable for my lcd.
Multiplay is wars only and very limited options. Not even a server browser. Hav'nt played it yet so maybe it's fun
The saving grace is it kinda feels like I'm running a country with tons of micromanaging if your into that. I'm into games with lots of options that I need to spend some time to figure out. The problem with some of these types of games if that you take the time only to figure out it's a POS...lol
Sorry if this was a shitty "mini" review. need some more playtime with this one.
Thanx fanster.I'm into micromanaging too. let's hope it works ok without bugs so that micromanagement decisions will have realistic results.Unfortunately seems that there won't be a scene release.
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. There's a crack out from darkc0der. Downloaded it applied the 1.6 patch and it works, there are however graphic problems. Severe ones. And I'm not able to change the resolution. Here are some screens. Hopefuly someone smarter than me will figure out how to fix those glitches.
Yeah, looks like Darkcoder is working on it though, although he might have jumped to the 2009 version.
Resolution changing works here. I only have two major problems with the crack; the main toolbar which is for some reason in the middle of the screen, and no pictures in newspapers. Also, I think maybe there's something wrong with the Create Treaty window, as I can't seem to select the type of treaty to make. Maybe some pictures not showing up there too.
Very annoying issues, but it's semi-playable, at least for getting an impression of the game. Think I lasted like 10 days or something with Saudi Arabia before getting assassinated( I think, newspaper picture/story didn't show properly ). At least I managed to conquer Kuwait first and take down some US ships.
Works with darkcoder's.Problems remain to be solved:
1) Menu bar.
2) Newspapers and a major one:
3) World trades,treaties etc don't work.Missing text and textures.
yea, it seems the resolution multipliers are off somehow (as in, the amount texture coordinates are multiplied to match the resolution)
newspaper images and others ARE there, but they are displayed offscreen
it would appear it is the only problem with the crack
i hope it gets fixed soon
it's unplayable as is
I got tired of waiting for a demo or a proper crack, so I ended up buying it( 2009 v2.20 ). The game is decent'ish, assuming this is your kind of game, and it has alot of potential, but it's not quite there yet.
The biggest problems include alot of bugs, both big and small, and a lack of information; there's alot of numbers going on in the background, but too few of them are visible to the player, making it sometimes very difficult to see what effects the possible actions have. There's also basically no guidance or hints from the advisor or ministers, which, with the addition of no action-descriptions, makes the whole game more of a trial by fire kind of thing.
There's also alot of minor annoyances, like the whole army/war system( it sucks, basically ) and the worse-than-babelfish translation.
Other than those numerous issues, the game is pretty much what you'd expect from this type of simulator, only with more options( though possibly still not enough ).
As a comparison, I personally prefer the Economic system of SupremeRuler2020( less realistic, but more options in the hands of the player, and not so many hidden numbers ) and also its Military system, but GPS is *alot* better in pretty much all other areas. Too bad it feels like it's still in beta.
