So is this a retail store version or the steam version? The first one release by TL was reported as a steam version. But in the NFO of the DIE version says protection steam again. And why is it on 3 DVDs? I thought it was on 2? Confused

This image of a Russian version has 2 DVD's...

Is the DIE version using the RevLoader ? (the one with rev.ini etc.)

Or is it a patched exe ?

When you change partitions you don't use "cd", you just type the drive letter:

C:\Users\Frant> d: and press enter

To clarify a bit about the violence there's a "no gore" switch for the game but I don't think any of the unpacking methods include it.

The appid for the simpacker application is 16453 and the key is D799D47E9C37799546F6F6E957F04BBF for those interested.

It'll create a different "LayerL.Arch01" file which I assume will disable gore/blood/decals and the "full violence" switch in the options menu.

Gore works fine here with the previous P2P (Russian leaked version.) release, decals and blood appears quite often and those flamer dudes I just encountered in the second level explode in pretty violent ways if you hit their backpacks. (Seen in that screen that Epsilon posted previously.)

What was the command you tried? might just be a simple mistake and not worth re-downloading 11GB again. Smile
(Can just grab the modified EXE separately if you want it cracked instead of using the loader.)

Eh?

simpack x ProjectOrigin_disk1.SIM -g16451 -kF183E845B8A0A340CBD6F7922427D7C1 c:\FEAR2

simpack x ProjectOrigin_disk2.SIM -g16451 -kF183E845B8A0A340CBD6F7922427D7C1 c:\FEAR2

It's the same key.

It works by taking the appid of the program which in this case is 16451 to 16454 and each of those uses a separate key.

Disc 2 is normally loaded after disk 1 if they're named correctly. Smile

I never had to simpack disk2 (unless I'll reach a point where it's missing files, but the decrypted "install" is 12+ GB).

You haven't unpacked .sim/.sid files with SimPack, so of course it won't work

F.E.A.R. 2 uses Steam as protection, there is no non-Steam version

TL/Russian version is Retail DVD, same content what you get when you buy it store
DIE version has 100% same files as you would have after unpacking TL version with SimPack, they just have put them in WinRAR SFX and splitted them so you can burn their release on 3xDVD5 disks

The retail version use Steam as protection, thus even when you've installed the game from the DVD you have to connect to Steam to decrypt the whole thing. Thus there's no "retail" version without Steam protection (cracked or uncracked).

Mmmm... Think I'll steer well clear of this at this moment in time. I'm incredibly paranoid about things screwing up, so will wait on a D2D version to try it out. Smile

the retail version uses steam, so buying it on steam or in stores IS THE SAME SHIT.

the die release comes with a crack, no other bullshit needed, just extract the game anywhere you want, then copy crack and play, no steam needed, no loader crap.

Beat it - not as scary as the original. The story was cryptic as always and the ending just as useless. The multi-player component is a joke.

7/10 - Pretty good single player experience but nothing ground breaking. This is one of those play through once and uninstall games.

So it´s pretty useless if you already have the TL release, but according to the nfo u just install and copy the cracked exe, how come? did they bypass the steam protection in the installer?

The group "Die" might have used a custom installer for Fear2, haven't checked their release but the Russian (Multi-language actually as you can also make Fear2 use other languages with some tweaking such as English which is the default following the previously posted links and tutorials.) clone release earlier is in fact the retail copy.

When started it checks for and then installs Steam if it isn't already available and then connects to your previously logged in account (If Steam is set up that way otherwise it'll show the login screen.)

Then it starts the installer on the disc which installs the redists needed (VC++ 2005, don't think it's the SP1 edition plus a cut down edition of the DirectX redist.) and starts unpacking those SIM (Steam install manager or something.) files to your Steam folder.

Game is then launched via steam (You might need to enter the key the first time or during installation as verification) and after that you can play as normal. (Even with offline accounts if you've logged in at least once.)

The loader release fakes a connection and fools the game so it starts and the cracked Fear2.exe file by Die circumvents this entirely as far as I know.
(Might be easier to use the cracked exe in fact instead of relying on a loader but both methods work.)

Patches will have to be ripped and uploaded separately but should work with the current loader if done correctly. Smile

Bit long explanation but it should help a bit, not really necessary to know that stuff though, just install the game in some way depending on the release you have and play. Very Happy

EDIT: (Post below) So that's how it's done, works pretty well too although as with the loader custom settings in the "User / Documents and Settings" folder and registry won't be removed when "uninstalling" the game (Deleting the folder.)

the die release dont have a custom installer as normal, they put the game files on winrar, and then you extract the game using winrar to anywhere you want, its basiclly the same thing but you are using winrar instead of a custom setup.

then you copy the crack and play, no steam involved.
