LOL, thats the way you suppose to kill him...the Sword attack is the better attack to use at him tho...a few times of it and hes knocked out. ;]

u need to get the lightning strike thats pretty awesome and powerful, 5 strikes from that and Balrog is history, once u have that its like childplay, strike him then keep running around away from his reach then charge up and strike, then repeat and in 5 strikes its over...

A friend of mine has had some problems with the HOODLUM release, says that when he chooses the dark side in the campaigne the game crashes. He can only play the light side, and it crashes sometimes as well.

I cannot destory all Isengard Troops when I am Rohan in the East Gomment or something...HELP!

Great game.. totally kicking my ass.. just defended Minas Tirith, now I'm completely getting my ass handed to me in the next mission when I'm clearing the way to the black gate. Unreal. 5hrs wasted on this one level so far!

I wan't to shout a tip for everyone playing this game. Don't rush for the black gate as soon as you can. It's much better to wait and conquer some of the surrounding areas to gain more experience and new special attacks like the army of the dead. The black gate is very hard if you'll go directly towards it.

I finnished it on the good side with 2523249 points on normal difficulty. I must say that I hardly got bored and that the Dark gate is extremely difficult. All types of Haradim and orch forces keeps coming like a stream. I lost my whole right flank which were double star combined archer and soldier units. Many heroes died too. In the end I had to flee with my little army (most got killed) when the last seconds ticked. It also lagged pretty much. Gandalf died like 4 times when I tried to nuke the area.
I'm going to try the dark side a bit before I uninstall.

I finally beat the game (good campaign).
Biggest thing that I found helped was archers. LOTS of archers. Flame arrows, heavy armor, all the upgrades. I was unstoppable. One mission I think I lost one person (fangorn, I think it was) and that was it.
Black gate... I had to wait that one out.. I lost most of my forces, but a certain character did what needed to be done and I lasted long enough for that event to occur so I won.
I rushed into the black gate a little too quick, but I did beat it on my first try. I let the forces come after me, run back to my heavily fortified camps, let them slaughter themselves there, and repeat.. the mumakils really were a pain in the ass, though. I hate the cave trolls. With a passion. If I ever see a cave troll in real life, I'm going to beat it with a sledgehammer. Headache city!
Anyhow, I thought the game was fun! Never really figured how to gain all my powers, I missed the army of the dead by a couple of points which would've really helped.

Yes, cave trolls were pain in the ass. Even Gandalfs "nuke" won't work on both cave trolls but he leaves them pretty wasted. Archers are very good against both Mumakils and Cave trolls but I must say that Mumakils are easier to kill because they are much slower. Always keep Gandalf ready when there are masses of orchs sorrounding him and use the strongest attack ("nuke").

If u have the choice of choosing between a few areas u can attack. Is it possible that u can attack the rest of them later ?
Like saving the black gate as the last one, and having finished all other levels.

I don't remember how it worked. I know I was able to skip about 6 battlefields and go to the black gate, but it seems that other places were left behind earlier in the game depending on what battle I chose to commit to.

haven't seen 'em yet. Now that I'm done with the game, I'd like to play it with some cheats and go against 12 enemies in skirmish mode. that would be fun.

Yes, of course. That's what I did. And It's much better because you can collect more resources and and power points.

I just have to say that EA Games has the beauty of making art games, and this one is a good example for it. This game deserves to be bought so open your wallets and take some extra coins and buy it.

Just needs some balance is all. I don't see how you can say there is NO strategy at all... Obviously there is some. Not as much as other games, but there can't be NO strategy.
Surely you can't win with just Gondor soldiers, etc.

at first, this game was fun, but then it became boring and repetitive. i had more fun playing with the evil campaign. i love those damn trolls. yea, this game needs some balancing. the evil side seems to have a bit more advantage.

Mordor is weakest, followed by Isengard.
Rohan comes next, with Gondor in a far lead.

I tend to agree, it's usual Blizzard style RTS. A nice mixture and fun game with a more astute online mode - but ultimately again it fails to live up to the hype.
It's also lacking in features, even basic features RTS games might have.
And as is per usual with games of this ilk, strategy & tactics are very basic rock, paper scissors. Even then, Heroes encompass all of those attriubutes and as the good side has the best heroes they are generally the better teams.
The fact you can't organise troops, formation wise or mentality wise says a lot about the games battle mode.
Which is amusing actually as the tech tree is practically non-existent and linear.

They don't really have a tech tree though, it's all about your structures gaining rank. Something not many(any?) games have done.
