Noticed that the updated files reset my settings and progress, decided to check and found that the folder structure differs a bit now.

Previously the files went to the "C:\Users\MyUserName\Documents\WBGames\FEAR2" whereas they now go to that folder plus a subfolder with some random numbers naming scheme. (Profile?)

Easy to correct by moving files around a bit. Smile

EDIT: Previous build was 2240 whereas this build is 2255

Any ideas on how to get the game to run in a window mode? I need to be able to change the resolution settings in game to get this to work on my monitor. I have tried alt+enter and putting -window at the end of the shortcut...but nothing is working.

Running out of ideas here....

Finished it some minutes ago.
After the first part the second one was more like a usual shooter with some "fear 1 scenes." I mean the Alma appearing/dissappearing in some places, corridors with ghosts etc.
For me, there were no points in game, where I was startled by some ghostly scene. Just... action shooter.

But the end was sort of weird.

It's hard to read this thread with all that f*cking spoilers, I am still waiting for a release of the retail version, but it's taking too much time, any particular reason of why is taking so long?

This is the retail version. Smile

Been explained a few times but the disc just contains those files and installs Steam which then installs this game to your account.

It'll also update to 1.1 the first time you start it changing the build number from 2240 to 2255 but I haven't found any changelog even on the official forums.
(Posted the updated files on the previous page.)

Also seems that due to how the engine "reloads" between levels (From what I've read I'm pretty sure there's twelve levels split over seven intervals or chapters.) that grain removal texture modification I posted three or so pages back might not always work properly.

He probably meant a retail boxed version. Idea

Edit: Btw guys, look at this strange error. There is no way I can start the game with the loader despite the steps I've done according to the instructions. I can play the game with DIE's crack but this issue is bothering me.

Exactly the same problem i had when using the TL rls with the cracked steam instructions. Every time i tried running the game through the loader gave me this error. But the fear2.exe worked just fine and i used it to play the game.

First sorry if I misunderstood.

The retail disc is just the same as the released "clone" version, contains a setup file for Steam and the game files packed in a Steam back-up format which is unpacked during the installation that I mentioned previously.

The game uses Steam as it's copy protection so it's tied to it and there's no special retail edition that's just a install and play sort of thing.
(Bit difficult to explain.)

Secondly side-to-side config errors usually come down to VC++ redists.
(EDIT: But not always, loader uses .Net if I remember correctly and requires it to be installed, shouldn't need any prerequisites aside from the latset 3.5 SP1 edition of .Net itself.)

It's a bit cumbersome but.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=eb4ebe2d-33c0-4a47-9dd4-b9a6d7bd44da&DisplayLang=en
(These two are similar to the above but a SP1 update version.)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9b2da534-3e03-4391-8a4d-074b9f2bc1bf&DisplayLang=en

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=bd2a6171-e2d6-4230-b809-9a8d7548c1b6&DisplayLang=en
(These two are the 2008 edition, this second one is for 64-bit)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=a5c84275-3b97-4ab7-a40d-3802b2af5fc2&DisplayLang=en

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=bd2a6171-e2d6-4230-b809-9a8d7548c1b6&DisplayLang=en
(Same as the 2005 edition this is the 2008 SP1 edition)

Install them in that order beginning with the 32-bit edition followed by the 64-bit edition from 2005 to 2005 SP1 to 2008 and finally 2008 SP1.
(MS made it a bit cumbersome as it doesn't contain the previous versions libraries.)

Hope this helps. Smile
(Also download the Nov 2008 DirectX redist just incase.)

Sorry but there's no conventional patch as it's distributed via Steam, those files I archived and uploaded previously should be all of the patched data and no I haven't found anything regarding what's altered, fixed or changed even on the official forums or Steams forums.

Yes that's what I mean.

I'm not that good with explanations but basically the installer will check if Steam is installed otherwise it'll install it and you'll go trough some steps to register a account and probably enter the serial number for the game.

After this is done the program will use utility from the installer to restore the "backup" of F.E.A.R 2 that's on the disc and copy it to the proper folder in the Steam folder structure wherever you installed the program.

Then it'll most likely verify the content and update any files if there's a patch available such as the 1.1 update that's out now.

After that you use Steam to launch and manage the game.

Using the DIE release skips this entirely just unpack the files and play as it's cracked.

Using the loader you'll fool the program into thinking that it's running trough a legit Steam account/environment and you can also get the patched data to work this way but it's a bit more work than just using a crack.

The above procedure usually goes for all Steam "protected" (Or what one could call it.) titles such as Valve's own Source titles or the previously released Saints Row 2.

Furthermore I'm pretty sure this will also go for upcoming Steam titles albeit it's not verified and it doesn't have to be like that as Shellshock 2 was a Steam title but came as a retail copy as well as seen with Reloadeds release of the game.
(Dawn of War 2 and Perimeter 2 will be released later this month via Steam from what I know, unsure if DoW 2 requires Steam but I guess it does and Perimeter 2 launched earlier this week via Steam.)

Thanks for the updated files, JBeckman. Works perfectly for online play.
Also, i think that dawn of war will be cracked with the use of loader, so we may be able to play online with the cracked game using gfw:l key, though it'll be quite hard to get patches for it.

The "DoW 2" setup files were actually uploaded to 'PBay a while ago (Seems some digital store Relic uses has allowed downloading the game but not play it.) but noone seeds them though they appear to be real although it's hard to say how useful they are without downloading them.

Anyone have this problem? My retail version of the game skips some of the dialogs (so did the DIE version) right from the debriefing at the beginning. i see the subtitle flashing and disappearing very quickly for that sentence too.
Like... Jankovski says why do i have to go with buckett than the other guy says something but its only gestures without sound and/or subtitle.
