I saw some videos on youtube people using it with their monitor on the 1080 p settings and without it being stretched or any black bars on top and bottom.
I figured 1280x1024 is the best res since it scales perfectly for the monitor, however the white noise becomes hell of a lot more noticeable any ideas how to fix that crap??
man wtf?? I just tested the Xbox on the old 21" CRT monitor on every res and I did not see any static noise that I see on my new lcd. I'm very upset . did you guys had any experience with this little tool, will that fix the problem??
I bought like a cheap "Premium VGA Cable" for like $7 a long time ago on buy.com and I haven't experience any static noise on my Dell 20" LCD. I use 1680x1050 res and I get a black bar at the top and bottom like mention before. If your LCD max resolution is 1680x1050, you should set your xbox to that. Why 1280x1024? That's not even 16:10 or 16:9.
Edit: Your pics seem correct, except the bars are offset. Is your vertical/horizontal set to 50/50? My Dell LCD have a Factory Reset Positioning Only option, if your LCD has it, try it.
the only res where the white noise is barely noticeable is 1024 by 768 and 1680x1050. I'v noticed that 1680x1050 is awesome if the game is already in wide screen then it actually looks wider on these res but a full screen game I'd play in 1024 by 768.

well one of the examples the game that are in full screen is far cry 2, GTA 4, Fallout 3 , street fighter 4
the ones that are in wide screen are condemned 2, mass effect, Mortal Combat VS DC , Gears of war 2 and many more.
by wide screen I mean big black bars on top and botom when playing at 1024 by 768.

I feel like a broken record.
EVERY GAME ON XBOX360 is 720P AND WIDESCREEN, IF YOU PLAY THAT GAME ON A MONITOR THAT IS NOT 16:9 THERE WILL BE LETTERBOXING. IT DOESN'T TAKE A ROCKET SCIENTIST TO GET THIS. NOT ONE GODDAMN GAME IS IN "FULLSCREEN"

so what exactly makes one game on the res (1024 by 768) look like this
and another game on the very same res (1024 by 768) look like this
1680x1050 (no choice for screen format, only "widescreen")
1024x768, screen format "widescreen"
1024x768, screen format "normal"
There is a noticeable quality drop when using 1024x768 Widescreen instead of 1680x1050 Widescreen, and obviously it looks like squashed shit when using the 1024x768 normal.
Also you can see in the second pic the image is slightly stretched from 16:9 to fill 16:10 screen.
1024x768 Widescreen, zangief is taller and skinnier than normal (stretched AR)
1024x768 normal, zangief is shorter and fatter than normal (squashed AR)
also what is weird is that in the last resolution, it seems like it is slightly zoomed in ... when I'm far away from the opponent I actually go 'off screen' ...
so again, the first image appears the sharpest and best quality without any stretching when I'm playing the game. Stretched AR bothers the crap out of me much more than losing 10% of the screen.
Call it personal preference. If you want the entire screen to be filled then use 1024x768 Widescreen. oh and btw, I don't see flickering in any resolution...
Now that I'm thinking about it ... I think the biggest impact is when you select "widescreen" or "normal" -- this will select whether or not to output in 16:9 or 4:3. So even though you are selecting 1024x768, you are actually seeing 1024x576 (16:9 AR)
I guess GoW2 running in 4:3 adds the black bars to the image (so if you were playing on a regular tube TV the AR would still be correct, much like watching a letterboxed movie on a 4:3 TV)... but SF4 has both a "widescreen" and "fullscreen" version of the game (again, like how some DVDs are released in both formats).
Now after the NXE update, we have the new resolution of 1680x1050 with black bars added to maintain the correct 16:9 AR.
I must say I played Fallout fine on my 5:4 screen without any borders or stretching at 1280*1024
I think the issue was that they had set the output to the correct AR for 5:4 screens and 16:9 screens, but didn't realize that so many people would be using 16:10 screens ... which is why they addressed this in the NXE update.
