Is this how the game is supposed to look with ultra textures?

I don't know how you enabled it but JPG compression aside that's pretty much how the game looks for me. (With even smaller objects like crates and such being very detailed, although probably not a big step from high texture quality.)

Normal maps and however they calculate specular maps might make things a tad shiny (Boltgun belt and the metallic colors in the army painter for example.) but it's not that bad.

EDIT: Was planning on showing a comparison via the army painter but I couldn't notice the difference so I switched texture quality to low and still didn't see any changes, seems that it and the main menu uses it's own preset.

i have a question why does this game say i can't use SOFT PARTICLES ??? i get the Ultra stuff gfx with 1gig of ram but , what kind of system does it needs to have those soft particles ... or is it a Vista DX10 feature

What's your video card, far as I know the game only uses DX9
(Local.ini in the Documents and Settings folder for XP or User folder for Vista.)

EDIT: Can also check the "Drivers" folder in the main game folder and the two text files there to see what you graphics hardware is ranked as for the game.
(For ATI only the 3000 and 4000 serie is rank highest whereas for NVIDIA it's the 280 and 260.)

EDIT: File has comments that specific drivers causes problems for NV users, might be the problem here.

edit: yeah your right its a driver issue ... those bastards force me to install new drivers

I updated my post with some new info, now that I know your card I see that my assumption was correct.

As you can see the "perflevel 3" value means that the card supports all features but that comment shows that soft particles are disabled with a particular driver revision, unsure how to read those hex values though.

This comment is actually repeated on all cards aside from the 260 and 280 for some reason.

EDIT: There's two possibilities here though, one is that only "that" particular driver build referenced via those hex codes allow soft-particles to be enabled and the other (And more likely.) is that all drivers that are also newer or rather have a higher build and version number also allows soft particles to be enabled.

Things might be further complicated if the game only detects drivers up to what was available when the game was compiled for manufacturing but I don't think that's the case.


EDIT: Seems you solved it by editing the file, didn't think about that but it's one solution to it. Smile

this kinda remembers me a game named TIMESHIFT when you had to install new drivers to be able to run it but you could reg edit the ini file to be able to play it just fine with the old ones

I´m using the wicked one too...

When I started the game it just entered to my live profile normally, but it does not allow to go online cuz the key is invalid Confused

All you do is click the orange LIVE button and if you have a account you should be signed in.

This will fail with a invalid serial as one was never entered for this game so just re-enter it.

If you're already signed on with a offline account you'll need to sign in with all online features to get this prompt, offline mode doesn't use a key.

But yeah, it's a truth then. Anyway, it's working fine and i'm going to buy a disc when it's out, 'cause i want full support for this one, and they usually make a lot of patches.

Very poor mission design. Always jumping between already visited maps. Caldaris maps 1,2,3 > Typhoon maps 4,5 > Caldaris map 1 again > typhoon map 5 > Caldaris map x and so on and on.

Wait, so there is ONLY a space marine campaign? I can't seem to select any other race under Campaign. If so, this is very disappointing to say the least. What happened to the dynamic choose your mission campaign that EVERY race had in the original? Sad
