If my attitude and philosophy made me the same as those in the video (I haven't watched it) then I would accept that. I certainly wouldn't try to hide it on the internet of all places, where anonymity is king.
I'm not cruel, I don't believe in inflicting pain for no purpose or if it can be avoided. I just don't let the pain of other affect me unless I care for that person directly.

Dude, you're splitting hairs. I suppose having emotions is something that is frowned upon here, and he definitely stroked me the wrong way just as I was simmering with rage over what I had just seen.
As for a debate on 'innocence', that's just obstinately picking on words when most people should know what it means. There's no metaphysical mystery here, the guy mangled his cat. That's wrong on so many levels, and the guy is guilty of being a human heap of crap. The cat is guilty of being an innocent creature that aren't going against nature. If you want to carry a debate of the whole "animals innocent/humans not?" thing, start a new thread. This is definitely not the thread. I claim that anyone watching those clips without feeling anything for the cat has a severe lack of empathy, and that's what animalmother displayed, blaming it on "rationalizing through pure logic"-nonsense. You clearly lack empathy and you probably think it's a good thing since you don't have to feel anything for other beings, ie. you're not affected by other peoples or animals pain and anguish. You can blame it on whatever you like, in the most eloquent way you can put it and it still changes nothing.

I went through my "macabre voyeuristic tendencies" in my late teens and early twenties with crap like Banned from TV etc., and I came out a more cynical and emotionally dulled person. Took years to repair the damage, and we're bombarded by images of mutilated people and animals through every news outlet in the world.

I suppose the conclusion that can be drawn here is that people with a lack of empathy has to rely on rationalization to be able to understand many situations (since empathy is a huge part in human-human and human-animal interrelations). Meanwhile a lack of empathy shields you from negative emotions and experiences. Personally I'm glad I'm not living as a totally isolated individual that have to use rationalization to understand other people or what they're going through. You're probably equally glad that you don't have the "weakness" of irrelevant emotions towards beings outside your own personal sphere of social connections.

Ok well at least we can agree that we're both very different, but happy with our differences.
Like I've said before I don't believe empathy is a weakness, it's just a different way of experiencing the world. But I do see people making decisions they later regret because of it.
Also lets be clear, I'm not some emotionless robot who walks through life ignoring other people. I've been in love, had my heart broken, all the usual stuff that makes life both thrilling and agonizing at the same time. But without empathy I reserve them for people who matter to me.
I also recognise them for what they are, behavioural modifiers which encourage evolutionary beneficial behaviour in particular scenarios. Humans evolved so many because we are the most socially complex organism on the planet. Doesn't make me immune to them though.

I have no interest in watching the video, I am not going to learn anything I already know. I saw the pictures of the woman and the spike heels and the kitten/cat and that was enough. I know stuff like that goes on everyday and what is worse is that humans do it to each other including children. People like that turn my stomach. I can't do anything about it except protect me and my own.

Negative emotions such as anger and sadness are not something to strife for, unless you know how to deal with them, mate.
From a pshychological point of view you feel anger because the retard who made this video pissed all over your personal set of values (namely intolarence to animal cruelty) and you could do nothing to stop it. Since you don't know how to cope with this anger, you found another person who, in your opinion, disregards your intolerance to animal cruelty(although his values are similar to yours) and since this time you could affect him you went ahead with a destructive solution and took it out him, even tho he actually did nothing wrong.
Did it help the cat? No, it only allowed you to get rid of a portion of that anger by trying to analy feed it to someone else. Instead you should've done what AM did, namely, you should've stopped the anger by realizing and accepting that there was NOTHING you could've done for the poor cat in the first place, or used that anger to reinforce your values by doing something constructive, like, volunteering in an animal shelter.
Sit down and think about it before you answer.
