Funny, because it doesn't load here if I don't put the wintrust.dll in the dir. I'm glad that it works.

im running XP Pro 32bit, though renaming the wintrust.dll didnt do anything, still getting that error. and yeah, i tried the original content.bin and the one from the archive with the wintrust.dll file, works with original, crashes with modified.

Go to %WINDIR%\System32 and get the XP wintrust.dll. I will modify/crack it as well.

Do you by any chance have 64bit version of XP? If so you need to upload the version from %WINDIR%\SysWOW64

Strange, because when I put my hex editor to disassemble the DLL symbols of the Vista DLL, it succeeds, while from the one you gave, it doesn't. I'll do it blindly, and hope for the best...

Alright, fresh from the oven: http://www.sendspace.com/file/9yyorx
Test it and please report back. If it works, I will make a second version in Rapidshare and update threads I've made over the internets.

Well, I'm out of ideas. It works somehow for VGA... Can you post a screenshot of the error?

MOD -- Failed to verify content catalog integrity.
Content management system isn't properly initialized.

Well, yes sounds like it is not succeeding to verify the content.bin, exactly what the DLL does. :\ Sorry, but have no idea what to do next.

The only actually worthy thing is the map and the extra shiny colors. The wargear is really really weak when compared to what you get at level 11-12 (and even 10). If you've advanced beyond that, or don't care if your units are shiny during multiplayer ( ), there isn't much use for the preorder anyway. But it would have been nice to have the wargear if I was starting a campaign just now.

I think you have not modified the rev.ini properly. Read the first post again.

Nope, still same error. Hmm. Anyone have the same error or the knowledge of how to fix it?
When launching the loader, first a box appears that says "no steam_appid.txt founded, might not work properly". Then it says Application load error 5:0000065434.
When I try the dow2.exe, it says Application load error 5:0000065434 again.

You should ask Captain Obvious what the problem might be. Remember to tell him the error message. He should know what to do.

Leo, huge thanks for the guide, saved me a lot of time digging thru Dow 2 thread.
Also, I managed to install preorder content as according to your guide. So far I haven't encountered any problems with .dll file. All done on XP 32bit SP3 fully updated via Windows Update / with Windows Live installed from VITALITY release + hotfix, required by Windows Live installer.

Glottis is right, no need for steam. i have the rforce and vitality release ... the vitality works like a charme, but for the rforce release i had to copy the legit (!) steamclient.dll to the dow2 folder.
i renamed it to steamclient2.dll and edit the rev.ini file pointing to steamclient2.dll ... works like a charme ( unpatched ).
after work i will try to patch dow2 ... thanks in advance iNatan.

Hm, Iยดm sure that Iยดve done everything correctly. Iยดll try to uninstall the game and start from the beginning again.
One question. When I create the "Steam_AppId.txt", do I just open the file in write 15620, and nothing more?

Nope, still the same error. I did everything that stood in the guide exactly. Worth to mention is that I got the same error when I tried to play the game with the rForce release.

ProcName=dow2.exe
# Specify the location of the original steamclient.dll

When I try to start it with steam, nothing happends
