no it doesnt all 512mb of ram is available to the gpu if it needs it, the gpu has full access to the 256mb of shared xdr ram, and as for the physics and wind it isnt idle animation, a peice of a building that blew up was picked up by the wind, from the floor and it blew over the side. the fire is effected by the wind when you burn things. alot of textures are low res on the 360 games when you look at them up close. When i see a game with this much going on at once on the 360 without any slowdown i'll think otherwise, the last level especially.

The framerate of Killzone 2 drops to nearly 20fps at times (see here) but you barely notice it because it uses a lot of motion blur.

Grenades are affected by the wind also, try throwing one on the train level, it goes about 20 feet max

i have to admit these days i use my PS3 more than my 360, It wasnt always so, for the longest time my kids played the PS3 alot more than i did i dont subscribe to live anymore either. I like gears 1 and 2 single player campaigns, halo 3 was a decent playthrough but the online for those games was never my thing, and the two games i play online the most are available for PS3, so i just play them on there. An extra plus is the blu ray player, ive practically stopped buying dvd movies now, and the added bnus of blu ray rips being playable as compliant disks wins over the wmv format any day of the week.
On topic has anyone confirmed what res killzone 2 is rendered at before upscaling?

yup and in one part of one of the levels you run a little slower running into the wind
and by slowdown i mean where the game grinds to a near halt, there's no places in killzone 2 where it grinds down to 12fps or anything stupid like that, and in some levels there's hell of alot going on

For anyone here wanting to join a clan I've created one under the name of 'Nforcers' with the tag 'NF0'. If you're interested PM me your PSN or contact me on mine; Cigoler and I'll send you an invite. It's just for a bit of fun so no need to be good at the game or anything.

Whoops. I think I must have stumbled into the wrong thread as I was looking for the one referring to Killzone 2? It's a videogame if you're curious. Seems I stumbled into a mislabled thread discussing the 360 and Sony instead... My mistake, but maybe the moderators can rename it to clear things up for those of us who get bored of that sort of thing. I mean, it is getting old. Especially when it's the same people every time.

I played it for about 5 hours total now, and I think it's awesome.
The shifting objectives keep every match interesting..
I also think it's pretty cool how when you start playing online (with option to play with similarly skilled players) everyone is pretty much just a default soldier with nothing special.
Then as you progress up the ranks and unlock new abilities, things get more and more complex and interesting... medics start showing up, then engineers, different weapons start getting used, etc
Can't wait to unlock the other badges and try them all out |
Sounds exactly like CoD4 tbh.

you make it sound like that's a bad thing :-)
getting experience and unlocking abilities is something that every multiplayer shooter should have, and I think it's great that killzone 2 does too.
What makes it's multiplayer unique are the shifting objectives... one moment you got team deathmatch, the next you have to protect some guy (or maybe you're the guy who has to be protected!), and then you have to set charges and blow something up..
Oh and the maps are really great, I love them.

lol you can feel ps3 bots being so defensive about this game, taking any comment or criticism about the game so seriously.
I play CoD4 online on PC since its release day so not sure what you mean by calling me xbot. How surray described KZ2 multiplayer sounded awfully similar to CoD4 so I made that comment, but whatever, I'm xbox, right?

It's reasonable for people to have doubts about Killzone 2. Aside from anything else, Killzone 1 was an overpromised game that turned out to be, essentially, a crime against humanity. Further, although I have yet to actually play the game, all of the trailers appear to have somewhat jittery framerates, bad texturing problems, too much blur, and despite what the fantards claim, does not in actuality match up to the target render -- the texture quality, level of AA and lighting simply are not there. It also appears to be highly derivative, and does not really look much/if any better than other games such as Gears of War 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, and some parts of Mass Effect.
Don't get me wrong, because this doesn't mean I'm not planning on buying/renting Killzone 2. It's just that past history related to Killzone has taught me that the scent of Sony's manhood on a game is enough to make rabid PStards see a game as being far better than it really is.
(For what it's worth, I own a PS1, PS2, PSP, PS3 and 360 -- so it's not some kind of xbox fanboyism that's motivating me to say this)

again like it was written ...
Sony poured large quantity's of hope in this game , they paid like 50 mln Euro to make it duh!! it shows ... the motion blurred low rez textures , but this hope well it risky , why you ask well this game holds the future of PS3 in his hands , if its a sales flop the PS3 will die and this time for real.... even the future Hard Rain or God of war 3 will not save it , if the sales will not return from this one game alone |
Your post was probably thread derailing, in which case I deleted it. As I did with all the other off topic posts.

despite the trickery hiding the lower res textures the digitalfoundry guys, who seem to know what they're talking about seem pretty impressed with the engine, gameplay wise its a matter of taste, i think its a fun shooter, entertaining and worth the money i spent the online is pretty fuin, the level design o the multiplayer is especially good, its catering for everybody from snipers to close quater run and gunners. Its like TF2 mixed with COD4 i love it

Well I finally finished the game, feels like I spent about 8 hours on it or so, my two cents:
+ Nice graphics
+ High production values
+ Varied atmosphere and level design, you never get bored of the environment, stuff happening almost all the time on screen
+ Very good AI
+ Great sound effects and good voice acting (the little you hear of Visari was great)
+ Levels loads fast, but... (see below)
+ Never noticed any framerate drop
- Been there done that (it's just another ruby-on-rails shooter in the line of 5 million others)
- Poor story (yeah, it's an FPS, so not much to expect anyway)
- Intermittent loading several times during each level, while it's only during dead-time, it was quite annoying
- No replayability
- Some minor animation bugs (really just nitpicking, but considering it has such high production value, why wouldn't they bother to fix them?)
I have yet to play multiplayer.

Upcoming Killzone 2 patch :
Quote: |
Boost
we've identified and fixed the bug to do with the boost medal not being awarded. It will go into a patch we are working on at present, but there is a workaround in the mean time to get it. Simply ensure that you are the Game Creator rather than client and you'll be awarded it.
Network Errors/Honor Ranks
We are also looking at fixing a good bunch of the network errors and are looking into the complaints about the Honor Ranks as well as a couple of other bits and pieces. We'll provide a list of fixes when we are close to releasing the patch.
Bots
We're working on a permanent solution for the bots stat padding and have some internal solutions that we're going to work on implementing. We'll let you know what those are when we've got the patch together and the solution implemented.
We will NOT be wiping ALL stats and padders will be looked at individually by the moderators.
www.kz.com
www.killzone.com is being sorted out today to deal with the massive traffic its been facing and hope to have some long-term solutions in place shortly.
The stats are currently empty on the site and will be repopulated today.
Controller Issues
We have not stopped looking into the complaints and will see what we can do about it. Any possible changes will have to be carefully implemented and tested before being deployed though.
Charge disarming
We have identified the issue where sometimes the C4 charge in Search and Destroy will not disarm. Will be fixed with the next update.
Shotgun Aim Assist
Investigating the problem and will patch it up.
Clan Games
Sometimes the clan that does not turn up for a match is awarded the win under specific circumstances. Will be patched ASAP.
Battle Replay for Map 8 - Corinth Crossing
The BR on www.killzone.com is not quite right and will be fixed soon.
Ignore list
Was found not to be functioning correctly. Will be fixed in the next patch.
Crashes
Crash when using Saboteur disguise in certain situations. Will be fixed in the next patch.
Infrequent crash when trying to start a game with an empty game name. Will be fixed soon.
Medic/Assassination
There is an issue with the Assassination target HUD icon displaying when playing as a Medic. Investigating and will be fixed.
Thanks and apologies if I am not responding to all questions, PMs and threads. There are simply not enough hours in the day to help all of you out and I have to work on the issues themselves. So please stay calm and sensible and everything will get fixed up soon. As you can see we've fixed up a bunch of the problems you have encountered as well as a couple more you might not be aware of. The important thing is to be patient. Any patches have to be carefully implement to ensure that no additional issues are introduced.
Seb

Anyone else notice the MP in this turn into Spamzone as people gain ranks? At least on the small maps, once you unlock the portable spawn zones and people start spawning next to the other teams spawn point and spamming grenades/bullets, it gets a little ridiculous. I've been on both sides of the spawn camping and it's simply not fun. I thought this was supposed to be a tactical shooter, not some explosion circle jerk?
But yeah, when the above doesn't happen, I love the MP. Fun stuff.
