well, i've installled the Rzr release and it works flawless. i haven't experienced any sound problems yet. i haven't played that much (it's late and got work tomorrow). haven't tried the campaign people say it's not working as it should but i can assure you the Grand campaign (conquer x territories and win -> RTW,MTW, M2TW map) is working ok.
allready i've seen a few things that i like (less than 30min playtime):
- the map divided in 3 main sections
- map subsections of some kind of importance (military & trade); there is something in this sections that i haven't tried and have no idea what it does exactly
-every land region has a regional town/city + region expansions and you have to expand not only the regional town but also it's expansions (ex: expanded farms => population growth in that region)
regarding the install, i know i was asked a few times in order to load the same file from dvd2. the install lasted for about 10-15min

He's ranting about a ridiculously screwed-up release. Nothing strange about that. Now stuff it.
EDIT: Sajuuk obviously played just a little.

@Sajuuk_Khar: interesting, good to hear there's ppl who have no problems (yet) with this release...did you actually use the sound fix or do anything differently?
oh and please try out the road to independence campaign and report back if there's any crashes

Gentlemen. Be nice and buy the game. It's one of those over-awesome games that PC-gamers rarely get any more.
My legit copy worked from the get go and it's motherfucking shitloads of fun. I have just finished the Road to Independence and will start a grand campaign tomorrow.
I managed to get both John Smith and George Washington killed in battles. John was killed by a rain of arrows fired by the native americans and Georgie got a cannonball through his face. History as we know it is fucked!

Played it for a few hours now and I'm extremely happy with the game so far.
I'm a total war veteran, played every total war game for countless hours, and I'd say the magnitude of the changes in this game are on par, or even higher than with the jump from medieval to rome.
so much is different that I found it all pretty damn confusing at first. Don't expect to feel right at home on the campaign map when starting out. it'll take a while to get used to everything.
drastic changes to recruitment, taxation, construction as well as a full fledged research tree really turn everything you think you know about total war upside down
naval stuff has also improved, with the real time naval battles obviously, as well as the possibility to have fleets raid enemy trade routes for income, and more.
eventhough I'm not particularly fond of the time period at the moment, I think this game is in the process of making me change my mind
my verdict: must buy for any total war fan!
now excuse me, I have cities to conquer.

With sound fix the game seems to be working good minus the Road to Independence crash issue. The Razor installer still crashes on initial installation but all u have to do is move the contents off Disc 1 to the game directory (the exe and some other stuff - just overwrite what is in the installed directory).
Has anyone played a lot of the campaign (outside of R. to I.) without crashes?
Nice find on the manual by the way... thx

The "sound fix" is just the demo's sound pack, which means:
- It probably lacks a considerable amount of sounds.
- The sounds themselves are of lower quality than the retail version's.
It barely qualifies as a temporary solution.

I cannot get the razor release to work. I keep trying to install it and then when it gets to the end I copy the exe and all the stuff from the first DVD and then try to run it and it doesnt run. Asks for a steam_api.dll or something. If I put that file in there then it says it cant find the entrance point or something for the file. Anyone know why this isnt working for me? What am I doing wrong?

Wow just had a disappointing crashing. Playing my legal steam version on the grand campaign, took over a city in france, battle was over, hit the check mark... crash to desktop. Lost all my progress since last save. Gonna need to take some time off before I feel like playing again.

SNAGGED FROM ANOTHER SITE - POSSIBLE CRASH FIX
"Possible workaround for the road to independence crash bug, got it somewhere else. I didnt try it though, cause I deleted the whole thing, will try tomorrow:
"Guys, I think I have found the solution -
When installing the razor release, when it gets to DVD 2 and it asks for the file disk2_0.sid agree with it and point it in the files direction which is on the DVD.
It then asks for file disk2_1.sid. Again, agree with it and point it in that files location.
Then, after a while, it pops up again asking for disk2_1.sid again. I think it's missing out disk2_2.sid so what I did, rather than point it at disk2_1.sid again, i selected "all files" and pointed it at disk2_2.sid rather than what it wanted.
It carried on installing and then asked for disk2_1.sid again. Yet again, I pointed it disk2_2.sid and it carried on installing again. The installer then quit.
I then loaded it up and selected the road to independance campaign - Voila - i'm now on chapter 3 with NO crashes or freezes. Everything appears to be working fine - at least for me. Try it."

Just had an awesome moment. It was 3 British frigates vs. one French brig.
I lined my ships up single line, and queued Broadside on all 3. As my Admiral's flagship passed by about 10 feet from the enemy brig, I let loose. Instantly, the entire ship exploded into smithereens! Bodies everywhere.
Of course, in my excitement I forgot to save the goddamn replay

if a sid file is missing a considerable amount of data is not being installed . Nothing can fix that other than getting hands on the missing sid file. You will get crashes without it.

I have the retail and I am getting crashes every so often... which sucks because it is usually after I pull something pretty good off against the odds.
That is starting to get a little old.

Well, it's pretty obvious that the Razor-release's fault is in the installer, and particularly for the second DVD.
Those who haven't tried, install once, and then retry, but after running the installer the second time, instead of pointing to the first file on the first DVD, point to the first file on the second.
I also think fisk should be unbanned.

I dont know if i should post these here, so in advance sorry (but anyway i posted in the other section)
The files are different from the razor release to retail?
Maybe who owns the retail could upload the file sound X.pack to some place (so, these maybe can be a "proper" fix)
But then we will be need another fix to the crash in the road to indepence, so something like a fix for the fix
But i am sure about the razor installer is the problem like it says some guy from around here in no time touch the installation file disk2_2.sid
I think these release, should be nuked ? Because:
a) bad installer
b) the package files, not the same as retail?

Actually, there is..
Ranting about something not working you've paid for is okay. Ranting about something not working you got for free is not.
