Question from R5 thread :

Quote:
I don't have my original firmware because i bought it preflashed. If i extract my current firmware as orig.bin, can i use it with firmtool to create new hacked firmware of 1.6 when it is released?

Any idea ? Thx !

I've been doing some research because I'm in the same exact situation as you are. You don't need the original firmware to update to 1.6 afaik.

Aye! I was reading about this a few weeks ago. I THINK I've lost my original firmware and drivekey but it turns out that the flashed firmware has the key written in, so all you need to do really is just flash again with whatever new firmware comes out.

All you need is the drive key which is in the firmware you have...dump your current fw and replace the key from your fw to the fw you want to put in drive.!

Do you need special hardware to update already flashed Liteon's fw (CMK3 or something) ?

You can make backups with any drive (that has 0800 1.6 iXtreme).

I couldn't care less about that feature, but I guess it's nice for scene groups.

I like it due to the fact that it could save me time downloading the actual ISOs. My missus and I have a 24Mbit line which we share ... the downside is that we never EVER see 24Mbit. More like 7-8Mbit at BEST. Split that in two when we're sharing the line and it means a 360 download takes 4-5hrs.

I could rent and rip a game quicker than that Very Happy

wouldn't that include openning your 360 regulary which is annoying thing to do unless it's opened all the time

i'd still take 4-5 hours of dLding

Not to mention paying for the rental Very Happy

Also, some discs will be abused and may be hard to dump properly.
