You might think its cause your using a cracked release your having problems since Ive yet to meet a single person with retail who has crashes.

Just because you read people on the official forums complaining about crashes doesn't mean they are using retail.
You would be amaized how many dumb people there is going to official forums asking for support using a cracked release.
Then telling people its the the games fault and devs suck not realizing it might be cause its a cracked version

I'm not quite convinced, a whole lot of people have been reporting the whitescreen+crash from loading screen, and the corrupted savegames coming along with it.
Long thread about it on the official TW forum, with no real common denominator.. vista and xp, retail and steam (allegedly), new rigs, old rigs, etc. I guess it's possible that all those posters are pirates, but it doesn't seem very likely.

http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/topic/46247/t/Save-Game-Crash.html?page=1

Wouldn't really mind paying for this game myself based on the 30 or so turns I played, but it'd be pretty annoying to shell out money for it and then get hit by the exact same issue, rendering the game unplayable.

Seems Hard is the best difficulty.

Did they find a way to modify the number of months that passes per turn?

I play slow, and as Austria, I'm already 47 years in. I've wiped out Poland-Lithuania, and have several minor German states as Protectorates (mainly they're just there to serve as a buffer with France as well as allow me to move my army through their territories for little incursions around Italy), but I only have like 9 regions held.

I'm just building up the economy and tech before I attack Austria. I'll leave Russia for later since I have jack squat for a navy, and I don't want them messing with my trade routes.

Yes working fine here no crashes at all, just as it should be. Only the pirated build crashes even with all the fixes mentioned here.

It seems only a few smaller changes have been revealed so far, patch will probably cover a bit more than this.

So I take your one little Indian Colony.

No need to be dicks about it. Just accept my Peace Request and the 30k that goes with it and stop raiding all my trading routes already.

That's not true at all. All versions of the game crash, including my legal steam version. It doesn't happen to everyone, but it happens to a lot of people. Read the forums and you will see a lot of people having these problems, and they aren't all pirates.

I also bought the game through steam, haven't ran into any problems yet. Can't even remember when I crashed a game last time though. I run the game on ultra settings, everything enabled except AA @ 1920x1200, works like a charm. An awesome game as all TW games are.

My specs are amd 64 x2 3ghz, 4gb ram, 4780x2, Vista64

I'd say it's most likely the minority that's having problems with the legit copy.
On the forums it may seem like craploads of people are complaining, but obviously those who are not having problems are much less likely to create threads about it than people who do have problems.
In addition, this is a major release so many many people bought the game, so even if there's just a small percentage having problems, there'll be a lot of threads from them.

just wait for them to start the same bullshit EA is starting with paying extra money to reserve your right to re-download/install a game for the future.

If its like the last two, you can't choose others until you destroy them or beat the campaign, something along those lines. Eventually almost every faction except the special invading ones were playable in MTW2, and those got modded in quickly.

Or if its similar file structure look for descr_strat.txt in a folder similar to Data\world\maps\campaign\imperial campaign

and add the factions you want under the playable section. I don't have the game so don't be surprised if this doesn't work.

and by the time it comes (i think it will reach here around may/june) it will be costing around 150 reais.. something like 63 dollars.. but 150 reais is a 1/3 of the minium wage here Sad (not saying that everybody get a minimun wage.. but it is too expensive for me to buy a game Sad)

$63??? That's too expensive for anyone with their sensibility intact.

Thats very normal prize for europeans, infact, I payed 63$ for the game Shocked

It's $46 in Swedish stores, and ordering from play.com is $42 (incl. shipping within Europe).

Finally I managed to run the game crashless and with proper sound (sry for my low skilled english):

1) I copied all the files from the two ISOS directly to the Temp folder and I ran the setup (this procedure prevent the installer not to stop everytime);

2) I copied the real fixed sound file (the PB site has it as "etw_sounds_sfx.rar") to the Data folder;

3) I downloaded the fixed Razor crack (RLSLOG has the links into the comments) and copied it;

4) I downloaded and copied all the files from "episodic_1.rar" to the proper folder (the links for this file are into the RLSLOG comments): with these files the game doesn't crash anymore at the end of the first RTI mission.

All af these things has already been showed into Nfohump forums, but I like to repeat them Very Happy

I don't think so, I run the game in dx9 and i can select all very high gfx (4870x2 here), so probably it's a video ram related thing Wink

Mughal? don't you mean Maratha? The Mughals aren't playable.

Apart from a couple of tough spots caused by spreading my forces too thinly, I ended up having the world by the balls with the Maratha by 1740 or so (less than halfway through a long campaign..)

I found the previous TW challenging enough on Normal, guess I'll be moving up to Hard on this, though.

Just wish I could play as a real underdog faction, like one of the native tribes..

If your video card has 256mb or less you cant select anything higher than medium.

1. Locate the Empire: Total War preferences file. Not sure about Vista, but on XP its default location is C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\Application Data\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts

2. Open up the file and find the line:

gfx_video_memory 0; # gfx_video_memory <int>, Override available video memory (bytes) #

3. Change the value "0" to something bigger. I think it uses bits, but I'm not sure. I set this value to 536870912, which is 512 mb converted to bits. You can find a converter on the internet and set this to whatever value you like, not sure what will work, but that number worked for me.

I finaly dl the game and installed it with the sound fix, but for some reason the keyboard isn't responding at all. First I thought it was the way the tutorial was made, but I also started the RtI campaign, and at the very first battle the keyboard still doesn't work. Does anyone have an idea what to do about this?

I heard about this issue and seems that it hasn't been fixed yet...
(anyway I've only tested the game for the 2 first missions, so I can't say much of this problem)
