Downloading the new 1.10 patch now, anyone still playing this? It's pretty decent. It's held my attention longer than any of the other games that are like this.

I love it. Incredible mechanics that avoid all the tedium of most city building, ie. micromanagement and complexification. The talents and estates stuff is cool too, feels like you're accomplishing something when you finish a map (rather than just, oh well lets start over again).

After seeing everyones comments I grabbed this game to check it out. I played for 4-5 hours and ended up giving up and uninstalling. I absolutely love city building games, but jesus this game pissed me off when the people would riot and automatically burn down 5 buildings. I dont know if the programmers did this to cause you to tear your eyes out in frustration but usually the buildings that defend against fires seemed to be targeted by the rioters first (fires also spread unless you destroy the burning building). Argh!

I always felt like i was running around like mad trying to make sure everyone was happy and not on the verge of burning stuff down. Bummer because the mechanics of everything else is the best I've seen on this type of game. The combat was pretty fun too.

Overall it was nice not having to deal with piracy protection though. lol

By the way if anyone tries this game out the patch will ask to install when starting up. Super easy.

Just watch your happiness levels... fucking rioters...

I don't know. Once I got the basics down I never ever had a single problem with fire/unhappyness. It's just a matter of having a 100% employment rate and making sure every home has enough of the things they need.

If you see crime in a neighborhood, just check what their problem is and fix it. The fires will magically disaspear.

This a ridicilously easy game management-wise. I never even build prefectures since nobody turns to crime in my cities.

Same, it's easy when you get the hang of it, yet keeping it all good while expanding over the map is something else Smile.

@gizmo You should stick with it and learn how to feed the people, it's not really about happiness just grub. Same food sources don't stack, so you should atleast have a butcher + bakery + farmers market for every area. Alot of people seem to miss this about the game (maybe it was in the tutorial?). Even if their unemployed they won't be criminals if you've got them fed well.

I love that when you're doing it right, this game creates so few problems for you (earthquakes which is only a minor annoyance) so you get time to look around and enjoy. The fun is trying to fit everything together in those tiny circles of influence.

I might try it out again, but for right now I am TOTALLY freaking hooked to a Medieval Total War II mod called Stainless Steel (my copy of Empire Total War is slowing being moved by USPS cross country). This mod completely changes the game and adds an enormous amount of depth to the game. Its unreal some modders did this thing. You can you use a mounted image of Medieval Total War to run it too.

Check it out if your a fan of that Total War series, or at least till the new one (Empires) is patched a ton.
