Hi,
i have tried to make HD quality Youtube vids but i can't seem to do it right,if you have done this before then please help me by answering the following 2 questions :

1-which software do you use to capture video clips of your games ?

2-which software do you use to convert these video clips to Youtube HD format ?

I capture my videos from games with Fraps. I record at the resolution I play, so usually 1920x1200 or 1650x1050. I then use VirtualDub to reencode for YouTube and small touch ups. I encode with the following settings:

For HD: 1280x720p, usually 30fps for games related stuff. I limit the bitrate for videos to 4000-5000kbps for size reasons, as YouTube really uses even lower bitrates, so you get no gain in picture quality.
For HQ 4:3: 640x480p, usually limit to 1500kbps (same reasons as above).
For HQ 16:9: 854x480p, usually limit to 2500kbps.

I use ffdshow's h264 encoder, which is mostly the same as x264 with nice interface (and works well with VirtualDub), 2 passes, CABAC.

For this video:
I used Sony Vegas for the sound editing capabilities, so I encoded through that to 1280x720p.

YouTube then processes the video and encodes to the appropriate format. Smile

video: xvid mpeg4 (single pass , 2,72)
sound: mp3 128kbits,44100khz stereo

get like 120-210mb file depending on the colors and movement vectors still its 16:9hq

some times i compress those avis again with dvix7(720p) to get 15-20mb file for 16:9Hq
