yes, I have no idea what I did before .nzb files (well I do, but it sucked).
www.binsearch.info = good free search engine (ie you know what you are looking for)
www.newzbin.com = good PAY indexing service (50cents a week or so), although I think you need an invite now to join
I'm sure some others know of decent free nzb indexing sites, but I use the above two. |
Thanks! I'm going to sign up for astraweb tomorrow probably, so these sites will come in handy.

I used to talk down to usenet so fucking much. Got an account, haven't downloaded anything without an account.
Newzbin rocks btw, they aren't the fastest getting "articles" since it's a semi private place but it's really the only site that's as organaized as it is. No bullshit viruses either.

I like the combo of private tracker and binsearch.info
If I am not in the mood to seed back or the torrent isn't very popular I usenet it by getting filenames of archives from the tracker and then use binsearch.info to create nzb files.
EDIT: If mine NewsLeecher's SuperSearch subscription is still active I prefer to use it instead of binsearch.info

Not many usenet users know it but AltBinz is actually the best and most features rich client. It has all the major nzb searches integrated in the client itself, so you don't need to ever fire up a web browser, download nzb, then import it (works like SuperSearch in NewsLeecher, except it's completely free and you don't need to rely on just one search engine). It can also use RAM (instead of HDD like other clients) to cache temp data while downloading, so hdd doesn't get raped so much. It has RSS download and tons of other features. UI is similar to newsleecher, but better in every aspect, imo.

Unless you wanna get in trouble for some credit card fraud I suggest you should use your real name. Why do you even have such question anyway? Are you one of these tinfoil hat types?

Have Giganews here, so NL is free. The new NL 4 alpha is pretty good. They are finally merging similar files to appear as one download. Much better that way to manage multiple downloads.
But on the subject of crack for NL, WBB has a loader which works great with the latest 3.95B3 release.

While I was checking out new messages here mr. alcohol keep bothering my brain to allow him access to my hands in order to type the question. He really wants to know is tin foiling the penis near mobile phones and wi-fi hotspots qualifies as tinfoil hat ?

On topic: AltBinz seems interesting, it appears it also has newsleecher's awesome feature - automatic unpausing of par 2 files. But the thing that bothers me is that the latest version is only available to donators, no demo, no trial period and being what appears to be a one-man project the development could stop at any moment...

Leo, hows the NL 4 in terms of stability, bugs ? As my update plan haven't expired yet, I have access to NL 4. ATM I am using 3.95 Beta 3. Is it too early to move permanently to NL 4 ?

Did you set the number of connections at server setup according to your tarif plan ?
I am using 50 as I am on pay-by-download plan, unlimited plan has 20 connections.
Also set your connection speed at Options -> Connection -> Speed

Well, can't say that it is buggy really. It works well enough for me to use it full time. Occasionally (every 2 days or so) it pops a message box that something has gone wrong, but it doesn't crash, it just notifies you (probably "try ... catch"). There are some new options that are not implemented yet, so it says "Feature not implemented yet" when you click it.

Hmmm... Thinking about gods bring the word sacrifice to my mind... Do you have sister ? Is she pretty ?
Or you may not answer that question and instead satisfy my current week desire at attention whoring by answering to my penis tinfoiling one, a few posts back in this thread

You can use a new version of AltBinz which has built in search engines and RSS and XPAT (if your server allows that).

Just out of curiosity, does AltBinz have search-engine support for NZBSRus?

No. nzbsrus is a site where people post nzb's. Search engines search Usenet itself.

Does anybody know if Astraweb have trial accounts? I wanted to test the speeds here in Germany, no use in paying for a provider that can't deliver enough bandwidth... (I am on a 25MBit connection btw)
I don't want to buy 1 month of Astraweb just to realize I won't use it...
Hitnews has a 3 day trial account that I will test |
I maxed out 100mbit with astraweb. Sign up here, the best usenet deal on the planet http://www.news.astraweb.com/specials/kleverig-11.html
