Age of Booty is a downloadable real-time action strategy game from Certain Affinity and Capcom. Play alone, splitscreen, or with friends on a local network or online. Anyone can master the simple interface but only the most devious will become masters of the seas!

Set in the swashbuckling era, Age of Booty™ is a casual real-time multiplayer strategy game that puts players at the helm of their own pirate ship with the goal of sending your enemies to the briny deep, and looting and capturing towns for your pirate faction.

In Age of Booty™, players team up with other online players or AI-controlled pirate ships to raid, pillage, sink, and destroy their way to dominance on the high seas. Spoils of war and booty are used to upgrade and customize pirate ships to make them even more deadly as players take on 25 unique challenges and seven of the most devious Pirate Alliances on the high seas. Gain notoriety and fame by climbing the online leader boards. Create and share custom maps using the intuitive map creation system.

Being realtime, why does it have hexes?

Is it part turn-based, part realtime like, say Heroes of Might and Magic?

No, the hexes are the areas you move to (it's for knowing where to aim and where to set off your traps) and it's still realtime.

nah, i'm not one to butt in like that, so there's no point in expecting me to pull low-brow jokes out of my ass..

Have you tried it yet, Leo mate?

Seriously good fun and pretty addictive too (though the last mission in the game is preposterously, unfairly, difficult .. and nearly ended up with my 360 controller in bits)

Has anyone figured out how to change the default player name?

Also, it'd seem all multiplayer modes (even LAN) require me to sign onto Gamespy.

EDIT: Also, is it possible to get a higher 4:3 resolution than 1024x768? There's only a couple of weird widescreen resolutions after that one.

Not much of a release if it still has gamespy implementation. If theres no workaround then this is useless.

Why not? I play fear2 using my gamespy ID. I was able to log in in age of booty too, LAN works, but it crashes when hosting or joining an online match.

Because thats not LAN, thats still internet. It might be using the LAN once you start but it still requires an active connection to get into the game I am assuming. I don't have an active internet connection where I LAN so the game is not playable offline but I wanted to try it with my buddy.

If there is a workaround then its great, if it requires gamespy then it's just shit.

Aww, shame. I dunno what it is about the game, but something grabbed me straight away and I've been playing ever since (I wish there was something for XBL like that SteamCalculator, I'd love - and hate - to see how much money I've spent on that bloody thing)

I guess you'll have to do with the provided resolutions. If you've a widescreen monitor that uses a different proportion, then you can try tinkering with its settings so that it doesn't stretch stuff when in resolutions that don't fit the screen.

The game's current resolution values can be found in the registry. I've tried going from 1024x768 to 1280x1024, but I didn't see any difference. Either it doesn't alter the resolution because it's not a supported one, or stretches 1024x768 to 1280x1024 (just like the monitor would do on its own if you picked the former and went fullscreen).

In case you want to experiment, the registry entries are in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Capcom\Age of Booty

That's in WinXP. Don't know how it changes in Vista.

PS: Has anyone found a way to alter the default player name? It's not in the registry. Sad

Anyone? There must be some way! Unless the player name is in one of those non-text files, or even the .exe. Sad

the player name is the computer name, so change that. and maybe if you sign in with a gamespy account it switches to that one.

Indeed. If I sign in with my Gamespy account, the name switches to the account's nickname.

I think it doesn't verify your serial number unless you go to the Online menu (LAN appears to be safe).
