|
 |
This is probably a stupid question but here it goes anyway...
A year ago, back when I still had a 8800gts, it was running hot as hell all the time, so I bought a heatsink made specifically for it:
Thermalright HR-03 Plus VGA Heatsink (along with a good fan)
Review: http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&articID=557
However, I never got to use it because my card died quickly after it... And now I've got a newer computer since quite a while, and I've been noticing that my Geforce GTX 260 is also running a bit hot (60-70 degrees), which I don't like, even though 70 degrees is acceptable...
Now, I've never mounted a heatsink on a graphics card before, so I know nothing about it, with that in mind, my question is, can I mount the above heatsink on my GTX 260?
It says it was made especially for the 8800 card, but I figured, perhaps it's possible to mount on other cards too? Or is there some reason why it wouldn't work?

Second question, well, this one is actually a problem that I'd like some help with. When I bought my a new case a long time ago (before my 8800 died), I got this case:
APLUS Case XClio 2

It worked great and the sidefan did such a massive difference to the heat in my machine, but... Here's the problem, my 8800 died, and so I bought the GTX 260, after putting it in, the 120mm sidefan does not work anymore. It does light up like it always does (it has blue light coming out from the fan), but it doesn't move. I didn't move a single thing related to the fan and I was very careful not to move any cables when I put in my 260, so I have no idea what's causing it to not work...
I've checked every cable related to it... But I can't find the problem. It's not even the kind of fan to be connected to the motherboard, because all you do is connect it to one of the cables from the power supply. The other wire from the fan goes to a fancontrol, that sits glued to one of pci plates. The fan won't move regardless of how the fan control is set.
So all in all, it lights up, but it doesn't move. What could it be? And how can I check for causes? I've never had fan problems before, much less with fans that aren't connected to the motherboard...

you can`t use this cooler on your 260.
There is a hr03 for the 260, but even this new one has some problems with the new ones.
you need additional cooling for the vrms.
I have no idea whats wrong with the cooler; maybe it`s broken.
But i suggest to buy a good case next time.
there`s absolutely no need for a side fan. I can`t understand how people can work with a system that sounds like an airplane... but maybe that`s just me.

I don't see how it's that big an issue. If you've diagnosed that the fan is in fact dead by trying different 4-pin/fan headers on the mobo, replace it? They are dirt cheap.
I've had some cheapo fans that refused to spin but continued to illuminate.

I am pretty sure THIS fan is not easy to replace...
It`s a 250mm fan.
