What about PSP emulator? Which one is the most promising? It's strange there is a working PS2 emulator, but no PSP emulator?
Any Xbox emulator still in development? Or they all just gave up long ago/

jPSP. A Java-based emulator that's showing a lot of promise.

Hey man don't diss the Mac. They've come a long way and can actually run Windows very well. The people I know who own Macbooks are all emulating Vista on it. Very Happy

Also, I don't know about the Xbox but there is a 360 emulator. Some games that are compatible with it are GTA IV and Saint's Row 2. Both games are playable, but even on a beast of a PC, you won't be getting that great performance.

That is fake. There is no 360 emulator

Not sure if you're just kidding around, but that's fake mate. It never existed.

Good call! NullDC is awesome .. I just wish they'd hurry the fuck up and release a goddamn controller plugin for the newest release. Releasing a powerful console emulator WITHOUT a joypad plugin should be a goddamn crime.

I'm making fun of how the ports don't run too well. I mean, with performance like that, they might as well be running on an emulator.

So I've got an AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ and 4 gigs of RAM
how are my chances of running stuff smoothly in pcsx2?
Things I mainly would like to play are FFXII and MGS3 (maybe Persona 3/4)
Is it even worth trying or should I just dig out my ps2?

FFX should be ok. Aside from a handful of INCONSEQUENTIAL (*glares at everyone*) graphical glitches, the speed should be pretty much 100% -- depending on just how fast your X2 is clocked. Anything lower than 2.6Ghz and I strongly doubt it'll be playable. FFXII is considerably more system demanding than FFX, but it runs flawlessly for me at 3.4Ghz .

MGS3 not a chance in hell. Even if you were running 3.6Ghz, you'll get slowdowns and general stutter.

Persona 3/4 are awesome, but again require high clock frequencies. I got them running 100% around 95% of the time on my E7200 at 3.4Ghz.

... personally? Dig out your PS2 if you want to play properly and without glitches.

=My own update=

Fuck yeah! Very Happy Fatal Frame works gloriously!! D3D10 causes a couple of graphic glitches, while D3D9 eliminates them. 100% speed, zero issues as of yet. Only works on 0.9.6, doesn't work on SVN 872 or 904. Blank screen with audio, tons of errors in the console, then a crash. Official 0.9.6 works great.

=2nd update=

Front Mission 4 - awesome! I've been playing for 20mins now, no crashes yet and it runs 60fps at all times in D3D10 Hardware mode. I did, however, have to enable x2 EE hack to get that - which means stuttering audio in FMV cutscenes. x1.5 EE gives 45-60fps. *sigh*

At least with this new emu you can switch between EVERYTHING and not have it crash. Changing to 1.5x EE in cutscenes takes but a moment.

There are a number of graphical glitches ranging from small (a missing triangle here or there) to annoying (sometimes lines appear on the text/speech/item boxes) to the downright odd (bizarre "artifact-esque" graphics corruption)

... all in all I'd mark this down as definitely "PLAYABLE!" Full speed and, so far, zero crashes*

*One issue with crashing is that if you LOAD the game in D3D10, it crashes immediately after the opening cutscene. It's an issue reported on the main forum. The fix I found was to load the game past the first FMV cutscene using D3D9, save-state, load the game with D3D10 and load-state. Works fine after that.

May or may not only affect ATi cards with Cat 9.2 and 9.3, as the crash is an ati3xx.dll file.

the Original X-box has no good emulator...

maybe it's because most of it's game's are on the PS2 and PC too
and no one make an effort to built one because of it?
and what's about the PSP?

=3rd Update=

Tekken 5. Perfect ^_^

100% speed, zero crashes and - so far - zero graphical glitches BUT only if you run in native resolution. If you increase, you get thick black lines in the middle of the screen (I also had a really weird issue with the camera panning under the characters and then turning grey at the start of the fight. Adjusting the Clamp settings fixed that)

=4th Update=

The Red Star (scrolling 3D beat'em'up, real fun) Meh, almost perfect. Zero graphical issues, but annoying - and utterly bizarre - slowdown. PAL version so runs max at 50fps, but sometimes, for no reason and in empty scenes too, framerate will drop to 45 or so. Not a game killer, but definitely annoying as it's as random as it is weird.

I don't have Persona 4 mate, I've got Persona 3.. if you want me to try that? They both use the same engine and, according to the official forum, work the same.

Persona 4 works flawlessly with some minor graphical glitches however...

SMT Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 works pretty well too

I installed Pcsx2 for ATLUS games exclusively. Razz

just tried some games on pcsx2, maybe we could compile a list with working/non working games?

metal gear solid 3 subsistence - playable, can get choppy at grassy spots
god of war 2 - unplayable, crashes after cutscene
kingdom hearts 2 - playable, high fps all the time, sometimes textures are off but no big deal at all
okami - playable, works great, no problems faced yet
shadow of the colossus - playable, my fps is showing 40~60 but i feel it being kind of choppy/laggy so i'm not sure about this one, playable if you have the patience

(my rig is q6600/8800gt/2gbram all stock on xp)

@Joe

It seems most Atlus games run great now, from what I can gather. There's been a lot of progress from the PG team in regards to the Atlus titles.

@Xeroti

I'm beginning to sound like a broken record here, but you'd get significantly faster performance by OCing. 2.4Ghz is ok, but higher is most definitely recommended and would ensure almost-full speed (if not indeed full) on most titles.

I do agree with the first part though; getting together a list of what works and what doesn't work .. including how WELL the ones that work actually do .. is a great idea.

2.4GHz for PS2 emulation is not enough even for the most static of games. 3.4-3.6GHz is required to see signs of 50-60fps unfortunately.

I wonder why that is, Dolphin runs much better on lower hardware specifications, and the GC is a better machine than the PS2.
