I cant believe people like far cry ? you go to one island then another then suddenly game changes to doom3 or something else stupid horror elements and monster oh wow im really scared.. i thought i was fighting bad thugs for amoment but something must have hit the developers in the head somewhere on teh road.

You know, I find it awkward how watching someone be impaled or stomped on or eaten... or killing someone just for the hell of it, causes less of a negative reaction from people than someone using the word "fuck."
Judging a game/movie by how controversial it's content is I find about as stupid as judging a movie by how many bars it's IMEI barcode has. Please, express a more mature point of view in the future. To avoid flaming, if not for respect. If profanity offends you but mindless violence does not, you and a psychologist have more to talk about than you would like to believe.
And before you reply, please take note that I am not offended by either to the slightest degree, compliments of growing up (mostly) in traditional American culture. I also enjoy(ed?) EFBB a bit. It had a few unique (or at least relatively fresh) ideas in FPS culture, such as body awareness (your character actually occupies space in a game world, rather than just being a block with a POV point, and he/it responds accordingly (shifting positions when you turn, for example). Also the devteam managed to combine elements of a goofy console shoot-em-up (checkpoint saves, "bonus" material) with the look and feel of a serious FPS.
As for HL2... it was a decent game, although at points it felt like it was trying to scream "ooh! ooh! look at me! I'm running Source! Look!". I cannot argue it had it's fun points, though (I spent hours and half of City 17's bottle supplies trying to kill a few Overwatch.) the highlight of the game though is

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one pissed off that monsters came into play in the farcry game... It was amazing, and then all of a sudden there were these completely gay looking monsters, when fighting people had been GREAT... so stupid. Still a great game, but this could have been a MUCH better game.
I love the wannabe anti establishment boys on here dissing hl2 and calling it "OK". If you don't recognize hl2 as an amazing game (it even has MORE potential with mods) then you are just lying or blinding yourself.
I never got into doom 3, it looked good, it was spooky, but it just didn't stick to me, I got bored.
Have to try chronicles of riddick though it sounds cool.

Yeah I also found the monsters in Far Cry stupid. It would be better off without them. Still thought it was a great game.

i expect most in these forums know a fair bit of history and that the "Battle of Kursk" was the "greatest clash of arms" in history.... COD UO in the beggining of the Kursk levels when being led to the front in the trucks was simply stunning...what a game ..Valve/Id and others take note
I looked up "gormless" in the dictionary, it said "without gorm" .... so i looked up "gorm" but it wasn't there ????

1 - Far Cry.
The First one to be released. Therefore the most inovative. Also, still the most beautiful (no other managed to handle vast exteriors. HL 2 really sucks at outdoor maps). The game actually plays great, with lots of way to go through a map, non-scripted IA, and a very long game.
I even liked the part where the monsters arrive. Shooting at thugs was great, but I welcomed some variety.
2- HL 2. Overall plays good, physics are fucking fun, but to linear, to scripted, engine not that good, and to much delayed. Still, he will obviously win. Because it has much more blinded fanboys, and for lots of people the last thing they played is always the better.
3- riddick - nice lightning, nice story and acting. But to much console (meaning, reduced FOV, unprecise weapons, character moving to slow ...)
4- Doom 3 : Same as riddick, without the good idea. GFX are nice, but that's all.
An hole is an hole. Dick have no eyes.

HL2 was rather disapointing with it's poor AI (not better than HL1) and the story was very bad, the level design was top notch though.. Doom3 was extremely disapointing since it had zero AI, extremely poor / repeative level design and only scary if you're 6 yrs old, i mean it's just the plain old "monster in the closet"-kind of horror. It takes more than poor lightning to make a scary game (Thief3 is the king of horror games!).
Riddick was the most pleasant surprise of the year, excellent level design and an interesting setting / story and best gfx of them all (except for facial animations where HL2, of course, is best so far)

I love the boys who just can't realize that not everyone needs to love HL2. HL2 gave me a lot of fun while playing it for the first time, but after finishing it I just couldn't finish it for the second time cause I found it very boring. And because of it, and also because I have my own opinion you call me (and not only me) a 'wannabe anti establishment boy'. Mate grow up, HL2 is a good game, even very good, but it is not flawless, no game is...except Tetris of course .
I voted for Riddick cause it gave me the most fun of all mentioned games here, but just my own opinion. |

Well, this is obviously a very subjective matter, but I don't think a game needs to be fun every time you play through it, I for one only play through games once, and then play multiplayer or mods for the rest of the time it's installed (hell I still play CS sometimes)
Anyways, yeah. tetris should win.

COD UO...ppfff.... i don't see why people find this game good. Every map was small scaled, the battle for kursk, i was really looking forward to playing that level, but once again i was disappointed by the smale scale of it. The largest tank clash in history and in the level at the top moment, there were 20 tanks in screen and not more, we are talking about a battle where thousands of tanks fought, not only that but the arcady controls of the tank made me sick. Another thing, which is even worse, is the constant spawning of the enemy soldiers..... how gay is it that soldiers spawn endlessly, untill you get up and move, once you do that they stop spawning and the game moves on, how gay is it that everytime you have alot of people fighting by your side, but 99% of the battle you fight alone, 99% of the work you do alone and at every point they stop for you to go ahead, as if they are using you.... and the game tagline is: Wars were not fought alone... stfu plz... Those last two things i mentioned are some of the gayest things i have ever seen in a game.
I remember when COD came out i was amazed, it was brilliant, it was IMO the best WW2 shooter at the time, far better than any MOH, and i really had no high standards or such. But i really expected alot from this expansion, once again.... i was really disappointed, everything is so cheap and really the same if you think about it...... the only thing i really enjoyed was the B12 level, that's it.

My vote goes to riddick.
HL2 may have the physics and texture art
Doom 3 may have incredible lighting and shadow
Far cry may have huge outdoor areas
Riddick has gameplay.

I love how everyone says HL2's story sucks. It has a great story. It's just not there in the open like most games today. You just gotta dig for it.
