No, they're considering CryEngine THREE. The crysis engine was cryengine 2. CE3 will be targeted on consoles, which will translate in still beautiful graphics but less heavy sys reqs (I hope...).

Give it a go man. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

This guide is a MUST when you're tweaking Clear Sky: http://www.tweakguides.com/ClearSky_1.html
The really interesting stuff comes on page 7 and forward, but pages 5 and 6 describes the effects various settings (SSAO is a killer, same with Sunrays on max etc.) may have on performance.

It's also an option in Burnout Paradise, but it slices framerates in half (or so it seems). Without it I run Burnout at about 50fps and with SSAO on it's more like 15-20fps.

Not to mention it looks terrible in Burnout

Well if you've got an nVidia card (a HIGH-END one at that...) the newest drivers add SSAO support and from what I can gather, it works on all games? Some look great, some look silly, but it's a toggle so you can always switch it off.

It think it's due to a faulty implementation (in Burnout). HAWX also has an implementation, and it has a minimal tax on performance. Considering how the algorithm is supposed to be independent of scene complexity, I assume it was just well made by Ubi, and bad by Criterion. Another good example of well made SSAO implementation was in Empire Total War, which also didn't tax the performance as much.

Aye, I was quite surprised by the minimal performance hit in HAWX compared to Burnout. In Burnout I get 75 locked at all times, but with SSAO that *can* drop to around 45-50. In HAWX I don't see a drop from 75fps vsync locked, but disabling vsync shows higher "average" framerate with SSAO disabled.

Who cares about SSAO dogshit. It's the most inaccurate and butt ugly graphical feature to be used in games recently. If it gave me 20fps boost in all games I still wouldn't use it and rape PQ of my games. Just look at comparison between SSAO on and off. Nothing about that effect makes sense. If it was supposed to make lighting better looking it failed miserably. If it was supposed to make game look more gritty, dirty and realistic it failed again.

Clear Sky was just milking money for GSC. This is 1.5 version of STALKER. They just added stupid swamp and Limansk with idiotic God rays that reduced frame rate to 20% from original STALKER. Game was so buggy that even Russians complained a lot. STALKER SHOC had photo realistic graphics with great story and superb action. I don't see any reason why would they make any sequels or add-ons. We don't need another FEAR junk franchise. Are you going to get raped by Alma in STALKER 2 as well? They can better make some kind of Bioshock game with nuclear sub exploding at the bottom of Arctic ocean and creating another anomaly.

If by "photo-realistic," he means low-poly models, low-res textures and bland environments, then yes indeed. Otherwise, hell no.

From the look of things, it looks like they are taking more ideas from the modders.

Quote: | There will be about 70 new unique quests. Small corridor-like locations are in past - prepare to explore three giantic territories:
- Darkwater - marshy territory, heavy affected with anomalies and densely built with various agricultural structures.
- "Jupiter" - industrial territory around and in the huge abandoned factory (by the way, the "Jupiter exists in the real Desolation Zone | translator note).
- Pripyat - 100% precise recreation of east Pripyat part, with central post office, school and other famous places. By the way, the city will be properly placed on the global map - north-west from NPP, not south, as in the previous games. The most important is that this level won't be corridor-like as Limansk in CS or Pripyat in SoC - no, it'll be huge territory with lots of various quests and non-linear exploring possibilities.
Call of Pripyat is closer to the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R concept with dangerous, desolated and silent Zone |
Well, sounds good so far.

Quote: | Call of Pripyat looks like the wise and massive work on mistakes done in previous games. There won't be helicopter bosses, infinite faction wars and other elements that are theoretically interesting, but doesn't fit to S.T.A.L.K.E.R at all. |

just playing CS now only on 1.5.07 or whatever it is, dont know if there is a crack for the latest which is 1.5.09 or so now. Having a blast running it all on high with dx 10 lighting and 10.1 in advanced menu, sunrays on medium though and grass slider to half.
Only place it feels like there is too much gfx intensity is at the clear sky base for some reason..sense a small slowdown there it seems..everywhere else is 10 times better..

I have no idea what caused it, but it was 10 times worse than the CS base.
