QuakeIV is not from ID it's by Raven (who bough the Doom3 engine from ID)
And btw, Doom3 IS dark, but not as much as people are whining.... if you don't have a too crappy monitor who is dark as hell (old monitor do that), it's perfectly playable! Else, just raise the gamma a bit (or a lot), if the in-game gamma correction is not enought take a special proggy to raise it even more (GammaLaunch). Do NOT take the "scotch-tape" mod, this really ruin the ambience of the game, it's MEANT to be a bit dark, or else zombie can't affraid us by hitting us in the back...

goddammit this looks like the same pile of shit doom3 came out of. i know its only 2 screenshots and hopefully im proven wrong, but wtf?? more goddamned space marines and futuristic hellbeasts with guns as limbs?? i dont know about anyone else, but i remember quake(the Original, not the peices of shit that came after) being about a romp through a castle, with all kinds of knights with swords and lava pits and awesome medieval type architecture. yes there were chainsaws and nailguns and so on but come on, what made it cool was the medieval type themes. this is looking to be another goddamned futuristic space shooter. and how many of those do we really have to endure before developers get the sense to realize people are sick of them?

ok how about people who dont want to be shoveled the same mindless garbage game after game are tired of them. i thought quake 4 would be a little different. if you want more of the same, good for you.

indeed it is!
I wouldn't mind a new Space adventure, since this is a followup on Quake 2 and that would be ridiculous to do it in the old theme...
Sure I also miss the good old castle theme, but if it can deliver a good quake feel then "meh"

i would not call this spacious. its the doom3 engine after all.
the shadows look fake, especially in the second shot with the obligatory raggedy cyborg. He seems to be floating above the floor.
However, raven is a top-notch developer and I would expect decent gameplay from this title. Looking forward to it.

Fuck the level design, they should take a peek at Unreal's gameplay. UT2004 has redefined my opinion of modern dm games. The key that everyone seems to miss in these games is variety. I mean look at UT: dodging, somersaulting, wall-dodging, powerup combos, multiple fire modes, combination fire modes, award runs, mutators, online ranking system, loads of game modes, easy modding with UnrealEd as standard, the list is endless. I bought the game last March when it came out and am still finding new things out all the time.
Let's hope Raven have got their thinking heads on and provide us with what we needin a game unlike ID that just seem to enjoy letting John Carmack wank off over his latest graphics and sound engine.

Then don't bother getting Quake IV. Just continue playing Quake 3.
Personally I like games to evolve. It doesn't have to have all the same stuff as Unreal, in fact I'd be disappointed if it did, but they definitely need to put some new features in there and use their imaginations a bit more.

Capable my ass!
The outdoor areas of half life2 with the small cost of performance of it's engine, can't be done with doom3 engine.
Or maybe when it comes to render an outdoor area with doom3 engine
you'll need a super-fukin-duper pc.
Doom3 sux a lot.
I think quake IV will be a very good game because of the million fans and hardcore gamers that are behind quake games.
As for the pics are very good, and shows that we need new and faster graphic cards, because you need a faster pc of the one you want to play doom3 cause it's a fast action internet game and got nothing to do with a single player game that can be played with 30 fps
Time will tell...

Its amazing to see that so many people are un-educated about this.
See my doom3 can do it too thread...
Anyways, quake 4 will have some pretty big outdoor levels, just wait, you shall see.
I also love how you make the analogy, that since your computer cant run doom3 at acceptable frame rates, the engine apparently "Sux A lot."
HINT - Within the next few years, if you have a system which is now 3+ years or older (or has hardware which is the equivalent in it) beleive it or not, but you may actually need to upgrade your machine for these future games.

What exactly are you hinting at? That the doom3 engine is not capable of outdoor areas? I firmly beleive I allready proved you, and almost 150 people wrong on this.

You are highly un-educated in this topic, please refrain from speaking about it. |
On another note.... i also hope they will make something out of Q4 than just a Q3 with better graphics, i've really had it with simple shooters. If this is going to be another run and shoot game like the previous Q titles i am not even going to bother installing it, if it has some flavour, something new, fun and cool game modes like UT, it will be awesome.
