Quite a while ago I suffered the RROD, but fixed it with the XCLAMP fix. Since then it's been running fine, but recently I noticed the funky greens and reds on screen. Just unplugged the unit to take it downstairs for a gaming session tomorrow with some mates, but when I turned it on I only get sound, no picture, no RROD.
I tried taking the unit back upstairs but doesn't work there now either even on a different cable. I just get no signal message on the TV's with the sounds as normal in the background.
I tried the reset video fix (hold down Y and right trigger on boot). It restarts as it sound but still no picture.
I tried flipping the HDTV / TV switch, again no difference.
It is well out of warranty (surprised it' lasted this long) and banned so they'll be no sending it back.
Does anyone know anything else I can try before finally lay the unit to rest?
I know this problem it happened to me a while ago. First the greenish hue and then the redish tint and then static and then the picture went out. I thought there was something wron with my eyes when I saw the greenish hue.
Anyways its definitely fixable. You do not ever lay an xbox 360 to rest. You mess around with it to the point where it starts giving you overheating errors at wrong tempertures which happened to my first xbox and I literally spent days experimenting different methods on how to fix it until I realized the board was simply just effed up to the point where it was unfixable. But thats a rare case...Anyways try the following,
Heatgun on 700F for 5 minutes around the GPU and HANA area. Make sure you remove all thermal paste and cover all other components with aluminum foil only. Also make sure you move the heatgun around and dont focus the gun on one spot for more than 2 seconds. Let it cool for 40 minutes and then flip it over and do the backside of the area for 5 minutes and let it cool for 40 minutes.
Make sure the board is completely flat during both these heating sessions. I place my board on 4 cups when it is flipped upside down. The cups work well.
