It sounds a lot like that french movie that was released on bluray a couple months back," Female Agents". It had a bunch of good lokking frenchwomen parachuted into occupied France by the english. They were getting arrested raped and tortured in between blowing up a few Nazis.
Meant to be based on a 'true story'. As less and less of the ww2 generation are around, the ww2 movies, many of which were about as real as a politician's promise 40 years ago, have become pure fantasy.

Nowadays the movies are always about nazi judeophobia but in fact that issue was well down the list of reasons why the 'allies' went to war.
I grabbed the image but have to go to a lab if no one else has done a mini review I'll give it a burl when I get back.

hey guys any way to change the resolution? my screen's native is 1080p but it's stuck at 1024x768 in the game... also i dont see any graphics settings to fool around with either..

EDIT: nvm im an idiot. the rzr installer didnt make a shortcut for me. launcher.exe does the deed of graphics setup.

Seems like Im not the only one this game didnt create the shortcut for.
Copying over the cracked file does nothing either.

 Spoiler:

Application configuration is incorrect error, reinstall to fix error. Message I get with either the launcher or replay exe files.

Application configuration?

Might that perhaps be a VC++ redist error?

Try going to Microsoft website and install them in this order 2005 followed by 2005 SP1 followed by 2008 and lastly 2008 SP 1, if you have a x64 OS then install them in the order of 32-bit first 2005 followed by 64-bit 2005 and so on. Smile

What installer does the game use? is it a Steam rip or something?
(Files on the disc, SIM/SID and such, also get the latest DirectX redist which is March 2009)

EDIT: Game uses PhysX? didn't know that, interesting.

found out it was because missing physx drivers.. installed V9 and now works fine. DOH !!

EDIT: New OS install, was missing couple of things... latest directx from mar09, physx drivers.. Guess it doesnt matter if ATI card or not, game wants those drivers in system.

Is it a Steam-rip or a retail DVD? It says burn/mount, run setup and copy crack but it also says protection: Steam. Confused

And does it support the 360 controller? I can't stand playing sneaking games like Splinter Cell without an analog stick!

I honestly don't see the hate about Steam-rips, they're no different (certainly not in VAs case) to retail and work just as well.

I beg to differ. It is the same format as FEAR2 and has the same file-structure. Of course it has a crack, just because a game is a steam-rip doesn't mean it has to have a loader.

Quote:

³ Date: 2009-04-29 ³ Game Type : Action ³
³ Size: 1 DVD ³ Protection: Steam

Or how about taken from setup.ini?

Quote:

// Config data, do not localize
"Game" "Velvet Assassin" // product name
"AppID" "16720" // primary appID

Or the fact that setup.exe is a custom Razor1911 installer? The disk references SID/SIM files, which are from Steam? A 3rd-party "SIM Unpacker" tool?

Now who's the stupid one, muppet?

i guess you never saw a retail steam dvd. the files on the disk are inside the steam package format. a normal retail steam dvd gets installed through steam with the serial. thats why you need a custom installer with a valid decryption key to decrypt the steam package.

dumb ass ...

The game installs to and requires Steam to be run in order to play. Razor cracked that and ripped out (or bypassed, depending on how you look at it) the Steam elements.

As far as I'm concerned, this is absolutely no different to a steam-rip.

So bite me...... dumb ass.

Well they are different - you can't just download an official update from a website like Gamershell and the corresponding crack from GCW. You have to mess with third party tools if you want to update Steam rips because no fucking group ever bothers to release the updated files with a new crack. Sad

Oh I get that, but if a game is originally Steam-based anyway (like DoW2, Saint's Row 2 or FEAR2, for example) then it won't matter whether it's a Steam-download or Retail DVD -- they still require Steam to update and you'll still need to go through the same, admittedly arduous, task of updating "manually"

I wish there was a place that hosted or specifically dealt with Steam updates. CS.RIN.RU has a nice update section, but it's not complete Sad

You're right but I thought the retail DVD of Velvet Assassin isn't Steam based. Or was the russian DVD also Steam-based? edit: No it had SF! So one retail DVD is Steam-based and another retail DVD isn't - strange shit!

As i own the original version, i can tell you that its exactly the same installtion as the original. if you would be smart enough to understand how steam works. you would have notice that steam just unpacks the file from the sid files and parses the install file (reg keys and directx extra tools) and thats what the isntaller of rzr does. (100% the same as the original)

a steam rip is what reloaded does. rar the directory and rls it. thats what i can a steam "rip".

but maybe your mom can help you out with that ... Wink

As far as I can see, the retail disk needs Steam - the retail version installs TO Steam, Razor just removed that - like it did with SR2.

Gave it a try now. At first the game behaved stange. It was running in some lower resolution even though I selected 1280x1024. I had to edit the ini manually to get it running in 1280x1024. Did anyone have the same problem?

Well it works fine now and it has 360 controller support (but you have to hold a button to sneak Sad ) . The only problem for me is that it runs a bit too choppy on my PC. Maybe I'll get it for 360 instead.
