Bottom line; I never once complained about the delay between console and PC version. My words above aren't complaints, they're observations. Last I checked I *am* allowed to make observations.

Fair enough. And I am providing reasons as to why I don't think your observations are always applicable, and I'm quite confident that these refutations are completely reasonable, and logically sound.

They are. I didn't - and wouldn't - dispute them. I just think that software houses should put the effort in to ensure a simultaneous release, or as close to it as possible. Six months later doesn't, in my mind, equate to "close" Development houses are big enough now, with more than enough funding, to ensure a product gets released. That may seem like a jaded or narrow view, but it really isn't - it's just another form of logic.

If multiplatform (or more accurately; Console<>PC) games had NEVER been released simultaneously, then I'd understand and thoroughly agree with your points - but that's just not the case. A lot of games are successfully released on all three major platforms simultaneously.

Again, I don't understand this idea. If they all start from the same place, and the PC version is so enormously more complex, how is it fair to expect simultaneous releases?

There is nothing logistical about assuming that throwing more people and money at a problem, ensures that it is solved faster. Aside from this, this view also disregards the fact that publishers have to consider cost/worth ratios. Even if it WAS a guarantee that it would be possible, it's not always worth it to spend millions and devote tons of talent and staff, to persue simultaneous release of a game to a platform where it will assuredly only sell a small fraction as many copies on.

To which I say, a lot of games are released on PC/PS3/360 (off-topic: I'm not a fan of using the phrase of "three major platforms," to refer to the PS3/360/PC combo; there is this little system called the "Wii," that has old 50 million units over the past couple years Wink), with the PC version being buggy, poorly optimized, not offering enough customization options to make users happy, and with inferior netcode, which of course, is all met with much wailing and gnashing of teeth from PC players.

@Cedge

Good points, actually. I don't have any rebuttals for that (I'm not stupid, mate. I know OF the difficulties in porting to the PC platform - even if I don't personally know them from my own experience) I just think more effort should be made to keep release dates as close as possible - hell, if anything it could even increase sales. Think about it, by the time the game has done its stint on consoles, most people would have forgotten about it and moved on. Releasing the game as close as possible to the console dates would just boost sales.

IMO at least.

Nope, not me. Hype has been and gone -- you forget, I've played the 360 version. Religiously. For months. Then I finally realised just how many online players are cheap fucking slags. So I snapped the disk in half, ne'er to return.

Gamerage FTW!

As I said, there is a hell of a lot more for them to do, other than add extra shaders.

You are woefully underestimating things.

July 2nd? That's earlier than I was expecting. I'm happy. Smile

Actually, really, that's a perfect release date for me. In regards to PC gaming alone (not even mentioning console and handheld exclusives), I'm already all booked up for both May (Plants vs. Zombies, Battlestations: Pacific, Terminator Salvation, Damnation, Fuel, Wallace & Gromit Episode 2, Star Trek: D-A-C) and June (The Sims 3, Prototype, Ghostbusters, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Wallace & Gromit Episode 3, Overlord II, Wolfenstein, Bionic Commando).

Unless Wolf or Bionic Commando end up coming in July (some release calendars say June, others say July), there is literally nothing else I'm interested in for that month, which means it'll be the perfect time to get really into SFIV.

Great news!

Why do you ask? You sure are nosey...

If you must know, I already own Plants vs Zombies via Steam preorder, as well as all of the episodes of Wallace & Gromit. I will absolutely buy Star Trek D-A-C if it's on Steam (I wouldn't pirate this game, as it's MP-centric; it has to be on Steam though, as I prefer to only use one DD channel).

I'm going to wait on demos for Damnation, Fuel, Transformers, Batman, and Wolfenstein, because I'm not 100% sure about any of those. I'll probably wait on pricedrops for Battlestations, Terminator, Ghostbusters, and Overlord II. I absolutely must have Prototype and The Sims 3 at launch, so I'll pay full price for those. I'll also probably buy Bionic Commando on 360 (instead of the SecuROM'd PC version).

You and me, good buddy! I'd rather play online against friends, than against some of those cheap fucking slags I've been encountering on the 360 version -- and at least NOW I can get a decent joystick without it costing the same bloody price as the console itself Rolling Eyes

Hmm. I would preorder it (as soon as that's available), but my one concern is that like other recent Capcom PC games (Bionic Commando, Flock, etc), it'll have limited SecuROM installations (and to note, I don't mind having to activate a game online, as long as I have infinite activations).

According to Sven over at Capcom-Unity, this will be the case, but he has promised that before long, Capcom will unveil something that will make the limited activations a non-issue. I'm assuming that he means that all Capcom games using SecuROM activations will soon switch over to fully unlimited activations (similar to Bioshock). I think I'll wait until this actually happens, though.

Same. I'm pretty much fucked for Dark Athena now. I had 3 activations; I used one the day I bought the game. I gave a friend one of them. Then the RC came out for Win7 and I installed that, having to use another activation (I did copy the TAGES folder including the vca.bin, but it didn't work)

Now I'm screwed if I have to install the game again at some point. Lovely.

Calling Tages support should work in order to re-add activations, simple e-mail should do it or you could send one to Atari support directly, just mention you dual boot. Smile

Oh? That easy?

Oh well in that case, I'm not really fussed about it. As long as I can get more activations as/when I need them, I can deal. Thanks JB.

Perhaps posted earlier but now on Steam. (Only listed, not much info as of yet)
http://store.steampowered.com/app/10670/

(EDIT: Mentioned a bit further up it seems. Smile )

Oh and the above stuff about activations should be the same for all titles that use them, revoke utilities simply made the process easier by removing and thus re-adding a existing one but explaining things via a mail should work for most other games. Smile

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure that it'll be $39.99. At least, that's the price Gamestop has.

EXCELLENT NEWS for people who don't like SecuROM!:
Quote:
The Steam version will use Steam's DRM. Retail will use SecuROM. Other digital outlets will use either SecuROM or that specific outlet's proprietary DRM mechanism (for those that have them). Games for Windows keys will be required for online play, regardless of outlet.

Link: The word is straight from Capcom USA's Christian Svenson.

So, yup, the Steam version will use nothing but the normal Steam DRM. Hell yeah; they've secured a pre-order from me, now!

I bet that RE5 and Bionic Commando will be the same way. Kick ass! I hope Capcom will un-limit or remove SecuROM from the Steam versions of Age of Booty and Flock eventually. Smile
