ah crap , just read about the whole subplot with Nero trying to escape a Klingon prison on Rura Penthe being cut up , fuck .. it would have added more depth much needid depth to his character
same goes with Spock and Kirk as a kid , Winona Ryder was barely visible in the whole movie imho .. too bad , hopefully there'll be a director's cut or some sort of extended edition

Devise is a bad cam. get the real TS it has a much better quality! I've both the devise and the ts and the ts is in each and every aspect better (the cam has an angle, rotation and is totally overcropped + blurry) and the ts is blurry in the actionscenes, slightly overcropped(15-20%) and the colors aren't that good but it looks very good in stills.

I'm really not that type but skip this movie as long as their is no hd-rip of it. Or go to the cinema, it's really worth it...

Yeah it is overcropped, but totally watchable. As for the movie itself it was very good!

a bit late, but I was just reading an article on the recent IMAX developments, specifically that IMAX really isn't IMAX anymore, it's 'IMAX Digital'

Quote:
one big disadvantage is the resolution of the picture is much lower than normal IMAX. The screens used by digital IMAX installations are also much smaller (28x58 feet) than those found in traditional IMAX cinemas. Despite these facts, the digital installations are marketed simply as IMAX, drawing no distinction to the traditional 15/70 IMAX – much to the dismay of 15/70 IMAX cinema owners

the next batman? Razz but really, you need to make sure not only is it a proper IMAX film but that it is showing in a proper IMAX cinema (I guess you should be able to tell by the aspect ratio of the screen).

They have fucked the ST dogma or whatever its called.

Aside from the cgi its no more than a 5/10. Both me and my dad were disappointed.

scott was good

char development was good

but it took a while to lift off
the next star trek should be decent if the same cast is there

Now Walls, we are gunna argue Twisted Evil

Dude, it had ZERO old ST feel. That "Punch it" and "Buckle Up" shit....retarded.

They rewrote ST. Since when did the Romulans have tats man? No War Bird (since the ship was from the future....should have been a war bird).

Spock showing emotion.

Dude, it wasn't Star Trek....it was a good action movie. Thats it dude.

The only thing Abrams has done thats good is Lost. Aside from that, he is almost a Uwe Boll man.
Every movie I'm aware he's done has SUCKED.

They should have had Jonathan Frakes direct the movie. He knows ST.
Or even Robert Duncan McNeil (he produces Chuck and was Tom Paris on Voyager).

Anyone I know (dad's friends) who have watched all the ST TV series say that they fucked up royally with remake.

Still, amazing CGI and good action.

And yes, Scotty was good Smile

syco Im gonna pick ur brain here though on this, the film is not as uve written,

"They rewrote ST Since when did the Romulans have tats man?"
"they fucked up royally with remake."

Its none of the above, it was held as a relaunch/re-inventing the ST era... so I dont doubt its nothing much like the original runs of films and shows.. Either way this paves the way now for a possible re-invention of startrek tv shows, and will be a nice refreshing change.

Ok, I can go along with that.

I guess we have to wait and see if it spawns and sequel or a TV series.

Still, didn't like the movie considering I grew up watching all the ST TV shows.

The story behind the Romulans looking different is that as they were the last survivors of their race, they decided to shave their heads and tattoo themselves with tribal symbols as this is what they do with their dead, or something like that.

As for the starship, well apparently it was a mining vessel (he says something to this effect in the movie) that has been modified with Borg technology after he went rogue in the future.

This is explained in a comic that was published before the movie came out. Personally I think it's bullshit that you have to read a comic to get the full history of a movie.

Plus, what the hell was with that mining vessel destroying entire federation fleets and wiping out over 40 Kingon birds of prey. I know it's from the future and all, but nothing short of a Borg cube could wreak that kind of havoc.

oh, they pulled that shit, too? check Southland Tales, for more of the same, and prolly to an even worse degree, since the movie has only the 2nd half of the story and you need the comic for the first. or at least that's what i remember reading about it, since i saw the movie first and didn't bother reading the comic afterwards. you don't really need to, though, and having an easier time understanding what's going on, the movie would've prolly ended up crappier than it is.

it's by richard kelly, the guy who made donnie darko (everyone and their mothers' favourite emo movie). it's a crap movie and a contrived one at that, with crap acting and an incongruous cast. but the acting is sometimes laugh-out-loud cheesy, and the story kept me, in a weird way, interested, no matter how stupid it was, and it had an overall charm that made it hard not to like it, so it's, in a way, worth watching.

Alot of things in the movie do not make any sense, I'm not talking about the tech stuff. If you use half your brain, you can probably tear apart the entire 'story'. I know ST isn't known for it's brilliant scripts, but this movie is clearly made for mindless action. Sadly that's what the majority of the movie goers require these days, pretty pictures and explosions.

Thats what I mean man.

And if you have to read the comic to really get the movie, thats retarded.

And yeah, a mining vessel that looks like a bud of weed destroying tons of federation ships.....naw, retarded.

But thanks for the info, makes a little more sense now actually.

Too bad they didn't put that CRUCIAL information into the fuckin movie. Would have made sense.

And what was with the first captain (not kirk) saying "Punch It!" as oppose to "Engage" or "Take us out" is retarded. And then at the end when young Kirk says "Buckle Up!" Rolling Eyes Kirk used to say "Engage" or "Take us out" or "Sulu, take us out of here".

So many things wrong with the new ST.

Glad to see you see it to AM Smile

COMPLETELY AGREE with what you said in your spoiler. COMPLETELY.

And Kirk always referred to being a Lt. on X ship, Commander on Y ship etc u know?

Aside from the cgi and decent action, it wasn't Star Trek.

It is an alternate timeline Syco, so "Kirk said this" or "Kirk did so" does not really apply. This is another Kirk with another history.
