Emergency 3 is soon out and it's one of my favorite games.
I played Emergency 1 and 2 and they are both great
I think this is a game you either like or you dont like it at all.
E3 will feature
20 Missions
Freeplay mode (You play in a city and you got e.g a fire and you have to dispatch and you might get a robbery,car crash and other disasters and accidents at the same time to handle and you have to think what recourses to put on each call. It's an endless game mode so you can play forever really.
The game is in 3D and you can zoom in quite close to get a nice view of whats happening.
Realistic light and shadow and weather effects
Realtime physics rolling drums etc.
40 vehicles to dispatch plus personel for each vehicle
Scenario and mission editor make your own accidents or disasters or crimes
A german demo is out (official site)

The demo is easy and short but it gives you an idea on how the game will be.

This game isnt all about the graphics, it's the gameplay and it's really good, but as i said before you have to like these games to appreciate them if not stick to FPS's

You don´t really need to understand german to play the demo. it´s mostly click and point.
The demo is pretty good, looking forward too the game |

It's very promising with the scenario/mission editor thingy they will put in and the free mode which sounds absolutley great

I've not played any of these games... what are they about? Can you only control one emergency service at once, or are there missions where you have to co-ordinate police and fire services etc. ?

depends on the mission
say if theres a car accident you control Fire,Ambulance and Police service and another service with cranes and special people who are not in the other services.
So yes you control all of them and not only one service at the time
