Something my dad and I kept in mind.
We liked it. Apparently enough other people have liked it as well.

Good thing I wasn't so anal over the new Battlestar Galactica.

i'd give it a 7/10. cgi was really nice and the few action scenes not shown in the trailers were cool. wish they introduced a totally new crew though (not kirk and co). The new actors can't keep up with the old ones IMO, especially noticeable when old and new .... meet Sad

Thats not really to do with keeping up, thats more to do with age and being wise with the world, otherwise known as maturity. You will never get a young actor playing spock for example, be able to come across how awesome nimoy can do it, its years of growth and his self being. Wont happen period..

Treat it as what it is... something new.

It wasn't promoted like that. All I kept hearing was it was a remake of the original. Obviously, they would have to update it a little bit....but they fucked up ST Cannon....

They need to do ANOTHER remake, better actors (like a non flaming Spock), more sensible story and better dialogue....AND, true to Star Trek Cannon.

Like I said man, I grew up watching ST. All of em (series, movies....even god awful Voyager and Enterprise) and they all had their own little changes and what not but still everything could be traced back somehow to the original story.

This movie....its like they were trying to hook tweens and teens into Star Trek.
The name alone is off putting if your a teenager and don't like Star Trek already.
I invited a friend of mine to go with me and my dad and he's like "naw man, its fuckin Star Trek, I'm into that dumb stupid shit"...mostly because he doesn't understand what they are saying (polarize the hull and shit....guy isn't well spoken...am not really either but fuck, I can atleast imagine what emitting tackyons (sp?) into a spacial vortex does ya know?)...but because of the name, Star Trek.
So unless a teenager is already into the reruns and shit on tv, I don't think it got a new, younger following.

Its none of the above, it was held as a relaunch/re-inventing the ST era... so I dont doubt its nothing much like the original runs of films and shows.. Either way this paves the way now for a possible re-invention of startrek tv shows, and will be a nice refreshing change.

Ok, I can go along with that.

I guess we have to wait and see if it spawns and sequel or a TV series.

Still, didn't like the movie considering I grew up watching all the ST TV shows.

Aren't you guys tired of playing with your plastic phaser guns? Original Star Trek was great and Next Gen was OK but after that with some black dude with thumbs up his ass on some remote space station and then female captain with Jerry Ryan FF tits and finally some stupid prequel with Bakula!?

The reason why no one is buying Star Trek today is that science used in the series is outdated and plain BS. They travel around universe and never encounter its origin or dark matter. They never figured out what gravity really is although they mastered teleportation!? The biggest appeal for original Star Trek was '60s space program, Kennedy liberal utopia and multiracial society in US. Kennedy utopia is BS, black dude is the president and space program is dead. Grow up people!

DS9 isn't that bad....the later seasons. Voyager is horrible aside from Jeri Ryan and the Bakula one....god. Quantum Leap was good but since then, he hasn't done one good movie or tv show.

Dude, its fantasy/sci fi. Its escapism.
Sure its not realistic and what not, but its good entertainment. Geez.

Unless you watch nothing but docs and bios, nothing on tv is completely accurate or factual man.

If you don't like ST, thats cool. But don't put ppl down who do man. Thats childish and immature.

I like the sci fi genre (not just ST). It stirs the imagination. Thats what a movie should do.

Geez, take a Prozac and chill man Wink

Some people still burn these files on 700MB CD-Rs. I use DVD+R so I can easily burn one file X-Men Wolverine 1.7GB BRRIP or Punisher War Zone 1.8GB BRRIP.

What's the res of.. say, X-Men Wolverine 1.7GB BRRIP? Not much bigger than an xvid encode from a DVD.

I only download XVID encoded files so I can play them on my DVD player. There are 720p rips as well but I can't play them on SD DVD player.
