Right, call me a noob if you must, but I have a vague understanding of what all of this is about. Some new way of building game discs. What I would like to know is is flashing the XBOX the only way to get around this, and if so, is a hardware flash the only option?

Ha. I didn't even know there was one. Thanks.
Quickly though, how would one go about finding out what firmware version they have? Is all of this impossible to do WITHOUT opening up your xbox? Thanks for a pre-emptive answer before I jump into this new forum.

Yes very easy, simply ask the person who flashed it for you.

I'm asking a (to me) simple question. If you don't wanna answer don't. No pat answers are needed.

If I could just ask the person who flashed the XBOX - do you not think I would have done that already, or even asked them THESE questions. I can not. Therefore I am requesting from folks here some common-sense, non-overly-technical assistance. If your answer was a sincere one then I apologize.

And how was I supposed to know that? Asking the person who flashed is the only way to know firmware version without opening the box... If you don't like the answer doesn't make it any less true.

This whole wave 3 thing was very annoying. I bricked a Hitachi drive because of that jungle crap. However it works very well with Samsungs. But Id still prefer the old IPrep/Slax methods.

Well one thing you could do is look at the timeline of iXtreme releases and take a guess when your 360 was flashed, and then assume a version around that date was used.
But to be certain you basically have to open your 360, read out the drive firmware and check yourself.

its easy ,
1º open console
2º connect to pc de dvd-drive
3º rebuild the original firmware
4º flash with the new one
5º close everthing
6 play 3wave games
its that too hard?

Yes. Burn any 3d wave game. Use verb or other media which always works fine for you. If it doesn't boot - your firmware is too old to play new games (v 1.5 or older)
