I've been asking myself the same question ever since some rls group promised to start making cam releases done on HD cams a few years ago. I guess it's due to size, but 720p cams are really dropping down in both size and price. Neutral

I think that the real question is: Why are TS's done in the first place? Laughing

It was done and it doesn't look better, still looks pathetic. And lol at people who watch cams so they can brag to kids in their class that they saw it first.

Totally true! For me bad quality ruins the enjoyment of it...

Agreed, especially for action movies, where the whole appeal of the movie is the visuals alone. But some don't care, I guess.

I don't know, for me it ruins the movie so bad that I just can't watch it. So I skip TS all together Very Happy R5 is the lowest for me (and that usually means nice quality).

I never got the appeal of CAM releases either, can only envy the people for whom they are good enough to enjoy I guess. Razz

If there's a movie I really wanna see, I just go to the theater - for the rest, I can easily wait until there's a good release out.

Not ture, TS on HD Camcorder would look better. Sure it wont look as good as retail DVD, but it will look acceptable. They have HD Cams that memory cards and hard drives in them can record 5-20 hours. Also you can fit some in coat pocket EASILY, or even baggy pants. I wont watch a action movie, but you know a horror, thriller, on like a benjamin button, would be fine on it.

quality would be exactly the same Very Happy

Reason a lot of cams look like shit is because people who use them can't operate them properly. HD SD won't matter. if you don't know how to operate it, it'll look like shit.

just cause you can hold a cam and press record doesn't mean if you get a 900 hd handicam and do the same the quality would be better.

Lol.

there's wb to worry about. there's fstop to worry about. audio as well.
heck lighting is crucial. a lot of cams have everything set on automaitc. manual is the way o go. but you don't have time to do that kind of shit when watching a movie Sad

I couldn't disagree more. IF you take a SD and a HD camcorder and put them both on auto the HD camcorder will look better. If you take them both and manually set them to aperature priority and take it to the lowest setting, the HD camcorder will still look much better. Same with Shutter priority. And you dont have to know much at all about camcorders to go in manual mode and get a good low light setting. I'm saying if people are going to do it, why not atleast do it with a hd camcorder which are only about $600 now adays.

I agree with you guys that TS's quality is going to be horrid period, thats one reason why I would never watch one. But still you think they would atleast use better camcorders. Even if they still look horrible. It wouldnt make me watch one cause yeah it would still look horrid. But why they use SD camcorder instead of HD I dont know.

you're dealing with a low light situation. and while higher resolution would be theoretically better, the amount of photons which hit a "pixel" on a ccd is far lower on a HD camcorder than on a SD one (if the ccds are the same size), so you get more noise. noise removal blurs the image, so you're more or less back to SD resolution.

no point in using HD if the picture quality isn't that much better and it even adds an extra work step (which is the last thing a group would want when it comes to getting the rls out first).

the only way to improve TSs would be to use a cam on which you can mount a lens with massive aperture. but try smuggling something like that into a cinema Laughing

I went into a theater with a red once and I always walk in with my hvx200 Laughing

digitalman42, it will not look better. It can't look better Razz If they know how to operate a cam ... even a basic handicam can do amazing quality for .cam

i believe german cine group PFD is using HD cams. Although their 720p TS are not really that much better than their XViDs.
