Now I realize more and more that Epic has done shit for the PC franchise besides releasing a few game engines.

I hope the big twist this time isn't the fact that they will reveal half-way through the plot that Tananbaum (or whatever her name is) is actually the new big sister or something similar.

I liked the Atlas secret identity plot-twist-thing reminiscent to System Shock 2(Dr. -> Shodan anyone). It actually put a smile on my face but if they want to impress somebody they have to do a better job this time.

Epic are adequate engine designers, but the true magic from UT/2k3/2k4/3 comes from Digital Extremes. Epic were just the publishers and engine coders.

It seems like the whole setting of bs2 is to amp up the combat quite a bit. You are now the tankiest creature that existed in the old one, with plasmids on top of it. They've created an enemy that can actually survive you, the big sister. There'll be a lot of combat with pissweak splicers and boss fights with a (presumably single) big sister that will flee at the end of fights then die at the end of the story or at the twist point of the story. With Digital Extremes tweaking the MP it's clearly focused far less on story.

Where's all the cool characters and backstory for every person you come across? The actions of mere humans living in a utopia, the mini-boss fights with the insane and the audio logs of the long dead sane. Andrew Ryan's monologues echoing around the halls of his palace you invade.

Even the moral choices are lacking. It's not a very compelling moral choice if the kid wants to come along with you. It's either -enable her and be nice or -kill her and be a monster. It used to be -save her against her will or -kill her and be a monster. Not to mention you went through a mini-boss fight every time to kill her big daddy.

This marketing leaves me disappointed Sad. Since i'm not from the future I dunno if the game will be disappointing, I'm not getting my hopes up.

Yeah the story seem to be in an even worse shape this time around, "Oh this is an early version of the big daddies which had plasmids!"

And you removed plasmids from them because?

Not to mention that the splicers are apparently willing to attack a big daddy head on, even though, as i recall it, they would try to avoid contact in Bioshock 1.

Atleast they seem to have juiced gameplay up a bit, so there's that.

Well apparently this is one of the first Big Daddies. So after the ass whooping you give them in this prequel thingy, they will avoid the big daddies in the first Bioshock.

As said though to explain it a bit it was first hinted at being a prequel before things got changed, pretty sure one of the previews posted earlier in this thread explains it in more detail. Smile

Because Plasmids are slowly killing you, the Big Daddy, as they don't work well with your stuff so at the end of the game you gonna die for an even better plot!

Along with breaking everything down to the most base level in order to attract a greater share of the market.

I mean what about that whole splicing was kinda like cancer thing and you needed more ADAM to balance yourself out?

You'd have figured they'd have eaten each other after 10 years.

Lol did you even play the game? Razz

But about the game, sure its nice to be a big daddy, but in the first game they were something you feared (well at least the first half of the game).

Before i wanted to take one out i had stocked up on ammo and healthkits and by the time the big daddy lied dead on the floor your were practically through your ammo.

Making the player a big daddy take's away part of the "dangerous" atmosphere. Although the "babysitting" the little sisters looks nice.

Edit: Dammed, all this Bioshock 2 talk had me install Bioshock again Razz

well my question was about, you know you have taken all those little sisters from this city that made adam and killed off all big-dad's that maintained this city... so WHY DIDN"T IT SUNK under the water mass???

well ???

who maintained this city in those 10 years huh? there where no dad's or sisters there , so how did those splicers survived ?? who made adam there when all sisters are gone ??

you start this game as a alpha-dady that hunts a big-sister that kidnaps kids ... and thats IT, now this is weak really weak

Well, I guess you haven't killed off all Big Daddies in the first Bioshock. Not sure about that but Rapture was one hell of a big city, I suppose you haven't seen all parts of it so there might be some left? Just speculating.

Yeah they've already said you only saw a tiny section of the city, the population is probably huge so there'd be enough adam lying around for the splicers to scavenge. But it's already been said that they'll be even further degenerated, mentally and physically, then the splicers in the first game.

How can they be further degenerate? Physically I get it, but mentally? They all were already far off anything remotely sane.
I remember some of the gems they threw around
"Look at me! LOOK AT ME!!!" and don't forget "DON'T JUDGE ME!"

further degeneration would be if they all went back to groaning as communication, although some of them already did that in the first part Very Happy
