My bad, I thought the 1.3 was released in glancing @ the Empire forums. I see it's not, just hyped

Do anyone know where I can find the update for the italian version of the game?
I tried Razor update files or JB's ones, but the "patch_en.pack" messed up everything Crying or Very sad

Yeah it's based on the English localization so there are a few issues with other languages, it's somewhat fixable if I were to change the language of the Steam program but that will also redownload all files for the titles currently installed to translate them into the new language instead of just the titles I would want in the new language so I haven't done much for other localizations.
(It'll also redownload all files if I switch back to English afterwards.)

Somewhat fixable by moving the other files around but there's also a lot of languages to support so it would take time to get all the updated files for the majority of languages used.
(German, Italian, French, Spanish to name the bigger ones but there's also Russian and other eastern- European languages.)

EDIT: Which means I can still do it but I haven't had the time for it, seems it's requested though so I'll see what I can do about it once I have the time to fullyl go trough with this.

what release should i download that gives no issues with the custom patches posted here?

Also has the point gotten to the game that its perfectly playable ? or does it suffer too much still from bugs and crashes? if so is there a big patch coming in the next few weeks worth waiting for?

I'd say until they add multi core optimization this game is far from "perfectly playable", at least on my rig (long load times, lag and overall bad performance) and the last nvidia driver made it worse. The next update is supposed to fix that - in a couple of days (?)
On a side note, you can check Third Age Total War 1.1 for Medieval 2, it looks golden

No exact date on patch, but they are prommising some new units 'shortly'. http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/topic/53425/t/The-Daily-Update.html?page=2

For me its perfectly playable after last patch, performance is ok when you lower settings and while AI is stupid its still fun because new campaign is quite enjoyable. If you're into MP, its even good too buy. But you must know that this game has very steep learning curve. Have patience and don't be discouraged by loosing a lot first month (or two). Playing against AI is very easy, playing against good MP player is right the opposite. Expert players are able to destroy you in seconds no matter what they bring to the field.

I have E6300, 8800GT and 2gb ram and its running very good on 1680x1050, so problem is in your computer, not the game.

Yeah, 1280x1024, medium trees/grass/water/sky, rest on high, 4xAF, no ssao, no hdr, no dof, no AA + smoke mod on xp32

It's probably my comp that needs a fresh windows installation but i'll wait for the next patch, hence my 30+ other games are all running silky smooth

Does that mean you have smoke mod or don't have smoke mod? Because to my understanding smoke mod causes a huge hit on performance.

I had the lite version, however here's a screeny without it, not much of a fps change, same settings.

Perhaps the difference is that you use a larger amount of units on the screen (Battle size) thus causing a greater performance hit when two larger armies clash against eachother?
(More units and such for the GPU to render and the processor to calculate AI and things.)

(Assuming of course that you both speak of land battle mode performance and not the game map or naval combat as those'll run a bit better. )

EDIT: Cartoon it's 4x anisotropic filtering, not AA. Smile

AA is off. Shadows + Unit Size are also on medium (forgot to mention them). With no shadows and no AF the game looks ugly Sad

its shocking how the 8800 new dia GT and even the gtx series are already showing strain.. So glad I picked up a 4870 when and sold the replacement 8800gtx I got after it started artifacting.

Hey,
anyone that bought this game, can they confirm that buying a steam key/gift online is safe for this? I mean the person i am buying from is trustable but i wanted to make sure this works like Valve games. I.e. the key is attached to my account and not like UT3/COD where you can either add it to steam but its not necessary. That would not make the key exclusive to that account only as people could use it on retail versions too.

i bought the special edition dvd. never bought keys only for steam games and i do not know. for me is not very safe anyway buying only keys for those games online. safe if you buy the account but if the key you buy is used almost 1 time you can be rob. anyway if you buy it directly from the steam store you do not need any key. key is only to unlock you installation from the dvd

How's that shocking? The GPU's a century old, if anything it's amazing that the 8800 series held as long as it did( and still does, in most games ).

Oh, the guy has a lot of positive feedback, so that is not the issue. Since you bought retail, are you forced to use steam for playing this and do you run it through steam?

yes to play retail you need steam. you have to activate it through steam then you can always play in offline steam mode with your bought copy but to get all updated in your own language and to play online and to have full access to steam functions and mods as such VAC, achievements, stats etc etc you need the steam client running. anyway you have to ask him if the game is used or new. if it is used it should sell to you his account and not a key. key is only to unlock the installation for the first time from the dvd

Patch is in the works(22nd June 2009)...AND DAM! is that needed. I get a lot of freezes and CTD after the last one. Not sure if the new patch will help, but there it is. I might add that the crashes also happens after updating to Catalyst 09.6, not sure if that has anything to do with it...but again...THERE IT IS!.

Yeah, I bought this game on release day but played 1-2 days then I put it on the shelf waiting for it to be patched up. Might give it a go now or I'll wait for even more patches, depends.

Why are they only replacing units instead of adding some new one? Only units that aren't replacements appear to be Scots and Mamelukes.
