I had this list of KSSN numbers, names, birthdays and emails back when I was looking to register on as many Korean game sites as possible (a rant of mine here). Last think I used the list for was the Huxly beta, but it was all in Korean, didn't understand a word.

There's no way I'm taking the risk. I'll just wait for Huxley to come to NA/EU .. if it ever does. If not? Well, fuck it, there's always Global Agenda and Borderlands - both due this year.

At a risk of sound too naive, there is an actual risk of using these numbers? What harm does it cause? The poor person can't play an MMO because his KSSN is already in use? Neutral

I honestly don't know, but is anything worth the risk? Downloading shit is illegal, but it sure as fuck isn't regarded as bad as identity theft -- which is what this *could* technically be described as. If some bureaucratic dickhead sees this as fraud, I could end up being deported or imprisoned.

For a beta? Yeah, I'm going to risk my future for that honest.

In country the fine is something like $10,000 if you're caught using someone else's KSSN. There is another step they've neglected from some of those sites.
Most of the sites require a korean cell phone to create your account. The cell phone has to be in the name of the KSSN you're using. Its for verifying the account.

I haven't tried huxley, but I have tried quite a few others (mostly FPS, MMOs are out because my Korean sucks), I actually wrote a blog for foreigners about Korean video games, how to sign up, etc.

Let me express, once again, how appalling and moronic this system seems to me. The idea having to use a social security number for everything on the internets (try signing up fro Yahoo Korea mail for instance) seems so anti-internet to me. That was the reason I went on a KSSN-only sites registration spree, just because I can, and no one is monitoring what I do or how often I do it. Smile

its for account verification. It has to do with internet culture in korea. Koreans just don't seem that interested in privacy, which is strange because the TV news is nothing but blurred video and disguised voices.

Well the game has been out in Korean beta since 2007 ... and while ijji announced it has acquired the rights for western distribution, this was in Mid 2008, I'm still pessimistic about it arriving any time soon.

I actually have greater belief in Borderlands coming before Huxley.

Patch notes.

Code:

UPDATE NOTES, April 7th
Bug Fixes
A crash when worms get killed through trample revenge damage is fixed.
Fixed broken reverb reset, so overall in-game performance increased even when low audio quality is not set.
Added options for increased graphics performance on fill-rate limited min-spec machines.
When there is an error when trying to resolve a scratchcard there will be a seperate error message displayed.
Intermediate solution for a potential issue where a user enters a scratch card code in the marketplace and no error is returned although an error occured during the activation of said scratch card code. Whenever an error is returned, the scratch card code is not consumed!
The sound when opening a booster will now be played every time you open a booster and not only once.
Fixed a random crash when updating the BattleForge-Points wallet.
Tooltips for Promo-Cards in the collection are displayed right now.
Sunstriders + Windweaver: in both descriptions a wrong mathematical rounding has been corrected; the units shoot every 2,5 seconds - not every 2 seconds (this just affects the description and has no effect on performance!)
Update avg. FPS calculation in benchmark.
When the mail inbox is full and the last mail is auto collected by the server the client view will be updated, thus you regain your BattleForge Points without a relogin.
Swamp Drake (Promo): The unit didn’t deal as much damage as stated on the card. It should be as strong as a normal Swamp Drake on Upgrade 2, so the values have now been adjusted to the dpts value displayed on the card (performance improved).
Fixed missing name on Nether Bomb (placed by Altar of Chaos).
Forsaken: The unit is marked as Good vs M on the card but didn’t behave in this way. Instead of dealing more damage vs M-sized creatures it dealt more damage vs S-sized creatures. This bug has been fixed by adjusting the real Weapon Type to M as displayed on the card (performance is influenced – unit will now deal more damage against M).
The Gold Wagon unit is now correctly set to be a ground unit again and can be attacked by melee enemies.
Ascension - a mission counter has been fixed
Sunbridge map art fix west corner
Bad Harvest - a floating fortification wall has been fixed
UPDATE NOTES, April 3rd
Bug Fixes
Russian jewel case keys can be used as serial for the serial field again.
UPDATE NOTES, March 31th
Miscellaneous
The first legends form the contest winners are in: Thugs, Giant Slayer, Frostmage
Bug Fixes
After entering a serial for full access ingame you will be logged out afterwards, to ensure full access after a relogin.
When entering an incorrect serial ingame/or in the serial screen before selecting a character, there will be more feedback if the serial has already been used.
Dragging a card into a direct trade, into mail or auctions won't result in disappearing cards in the inventory anymore.
Trees and plants will be affected by the wind again.
Fixed deck manager not showing translated default deck name when trying to delete such a deck
Ingame notification about planned shutdown fixed
Used scratch cards return now right error code
The mouse cursor is now working correct for non standard display sizes.
Fixing various image corruptions as the pink explosion phenomena.
Framelimiter can now be configurated in the config file.
The rank level will now be displayed as digit in the chronicle.
Redirect system messages to the first visible chat window also ingame
Server farm shutdown is announced as prompt message also
Map: Lajesh - a blocking issue for small units has been fixed
4PVE maps - bugfix: no loot recieved and pvp token window is displayed when player wins a 4 pve map after having played a 2pvp tome mode
Map: Wazhai - fixed a claiming distance imbalance that allowed easier claiming on the west side of the map
UPDATE NOTES, March 25th
General
BattleForge Points display now updates more reliably after points purchase on website.
Boosters can no longer be sold in auctions.
Trial Clients are not allowed to trade anymore (mail, trade, auctions)
Bug Fixes
Corrected URL when clicking on the order button in the trial version.
Following extensive player feedback during beta, we have made a number of additions to the game content.
Improved PvP matchmaking
The matchmaking will match players of equal strength. In case that there is no fitting opponent available, it will loosen the constraints step by step.
Video Replays
Watch your recent battles, review your plays and learn from your opponents strategy.
Loot chests and XP milestones in PvE maps
Chests are placed at key points in PvE scenarios. Looting chests rewards you with gold. Likewise XP is awarded each time you achieve a mission goal within a scenario, not just at the end.

Client download.

(86MB as it includes extra crap like VC++ redist and DirectX, 2.4 GB once fully patched and updated so you need to be connected online in order to play, requires valid serial to work without demo restrictions and a account.)

i like the whole card battling idea, but i wasn't convinced by the reviews and i would've preferred a different method of collecting the cards (instead of buying them with real money), maybe getting them by exploring the gameworld, etc. something like king's bounty + cards would be awesome. magic the gathering had the right idea, but i found it too arcane, it always seemed like too much of an effort to get into it.

You have quite enough BF points when you buy the game if you buy smart to be competitive without having to buy cards with additonal money. You can also trade cards. I havent bought any additional cards since I bought the game and I am pretty competitive. Plus, it has quite a bit of PVE to it and you do find cards while playing PVE.

Are you even awake? The game is free now, and doesn't come with any BattleForge points - you have to pay for them

no points, but you get 32 cards, from jb's link:
Quote:
The "Play 4 Free" edition starts players off with 32 cards, with more cards available through micro-transactions or by trading with other players. The retail version, which packs 64 cards and 3000 BattleForge Points for more, will continue to be sold at $30

Dumb ass... you get BF points when you buy the retail game and you get 64 cards.
Are YOU even awake?

The free version is more like an extended demo with the option to buy into the game by trading or buying more cards.

I bought the retail version (when it came out, and which you can still buy) and have not used any real world money to increase my deck.

Heh, some guy complains that you have to pay money to buy cards. Then you confirm it, and have a little rant.

I feel sorry for the people who bought this at retail before it went free-to-try. Maybe this is going to breathe a little life into the game, it's obviously in trouble.

I tried it, and it looked awful dull and old.

Yeah. God for fucking bid they should try to make some money.

There was always a demo. I dunno where you're getting this "free to try" BS from. This is just expanded a bit more. I tried the demo before I bought it.

The only rant I had was because you took what i said out of context and added a snide remark at the beginning.
My remark remains true. If you BUY the RETAIL VERSION OF THE GAME. . . you get 64 cards and I was able to trade and buy cards with the BF points that came with the RETAIL VERSION OF THE GAME and I have yet to spend any real world money on any new cards. The retail version of the game is still being sold and is a good bargain if you like the game.
If you don't like it, that's fine.
Of course, you are the world's foremost authority on what constitutes a good game so anyone that likes anything you don't requires sympathy.

If the game is in trouble, it isn't because of lack of players. Every time I log on there are 4 or 5 pages of players to scroll through.

Enjoying this game a bit, fairly unique. I'm playing the free client, can I find actual new cards, and not just upgrades, from doing PvE?

I do hate the times missions though.

All I have found from PVE are upgrades, but people have told me you can get actual cards but that they are extremely rare. But i don't know it to be true from personal experience.
