im not impressed by that.
people had a problem with the wii being all childish and nobody wants to move so much to play video games.

now with this... why play soccer or tennis outside when yo ucan do it in your living room runnin around jumping and doing shit...

for a few gimmicky games... yes it's awesome and a brilliant... as a substitute all together for video game controllers... no way.

Dude, you're thinking in the box, imagine the implications of full body sensing combined with facial recognition coded INTO new games, or doing away with controllers totally.
When Xerox gui came along they said it would never take the place of the dos cmd line.

But I do agree it won't do away with controllers completely.

yeah it does sound awesome but like... i don't see this being implemented well for tons of games. it's just the wiimote without the wiimote. you got your zelda, mario galaxy, all mario games, wario game and that's pretty much it. Everyother game sucks. They add actions that just are embarassing to play with.

People complained about the wii and they still played it. But this... i seriously don't see anyone running around their room playing some crazy ass game for more than 30 minutes.

facial reg, full body sensing is all fun and shit but like come on... reason a lot of 'hardcore' gamers hate the wii is cause you have to be active. sometimes you want to veg on the couch and do shit.

there is no future in this and if there is gaming will become a sad thing.

project milo looks good. that's the only thing that makes this seem cool. cause it's single player and a lot of people can join and it's interactive and shit. but people don't have living rooms the size of the e3 show room floor.

wii is a arcadey 'substitute' for sports.
this... is a complete substitute.
360 sports. a hot broad will watch you exercise, and keep count and will keep encouraging you to do more. It comes with a plastic set of dumbbells, a treadmill and an elastic exercise bike with which you feel just like riding a bike while sitting down on a high stool in front of the camera. Like baaah. Sad

-edit... wtf did i just write?

A coherent post, congratulations!

Like Waldo said, this will be awesome for a few games, but it's success will be limited to them.

You have to consider the fact that the majority of games have a protagonist with abilities far beyond the normal human, how exactly are you supposed to emulate those? Even if it uses gesture recognition, the sheer variety of inputs would require the coordination of an Olympic gymnast to pull off with any grace.

not that coherent. instead of high stool i wrote high school and my second bike was bile Crying or Very sad

but yeah... this cannot work in any fps game.
this can't work in racing games.
this can't work in full fledged rpg games.
it can't even work in rail shooters like time crisis.

all you have left is games like wiisports that only utilize the technology.
or wiifit.

Like seriously... look at all the games for the wii that are done by 3rd party guys...
red steel got butchered.
a lot of wii games are shit. only good ones are from nintendo and some other major first party people who work with nintendo and won't stop working with nintendo.

Like ps3 had the 3d camera too. it failed.
eyetoy failed too. it's a party gimmick. watching kids play and act stupid infront of the tv.
it's all good for drinking.

if i see it somehow properly incorporated in an fps without looking like a dork like playing other fps games for the wii, then there's future for this. but i can't even imagien how it'll work.

like you point your fingers at the screen and you shoot with a pow pow uttering from your lips.
or some guys appear in front of you so you punch the air.

like how will this even work for fighting games that have 2 players? kids just fight each other on the screen and the kid with least red on his face (blood) wins?

project milo is the prime example of what this is only capable off.
virtual fucking pets.
Expensive virtual fucking pets.

Sad i might just get it for project milo.

knowing peter m... you can prolly beat the shit out of a virtual kid and then log in one day and he'll be hanging from a tree above the pond with a note taped to his chest... it's not part of the game!!!!!!!! Sad

I strongly disagree with you Waldo. Its another addition to control schemes, not a replacement.

IMO this opens up much more possibilities for video games and entertainment products.

I can easily see this working in FPS games, and even easier in rail shooters. This is an addition to control schemes, not a replacement.

Imagine games such as Gears of war. You can use the traditional controls, sit back and kick some grub ass. Or you can add motion sensing as your cover system, or you can use motion controls for your gun aiming. The possibilities are endless IMHO.

In RPGs all you emotes could be motion controlled with unlimited possibilities.

IMO this has nothing to do with the wii. The wii was designed around the wiimotes. The 360 was designed around the traditional control scheme, and this will just be an addition, not a replacement. This looks very exciting, and is just the beginning.

Add some LCD goggles and vola, VR.

well if it's an addition then yes. but what they made it seem like is like a whole new controller.
if it's an addition then there are endless possibilities. which would rock.
and since it ids what's on the screen they can do a lot.
buy toy guns for like 5$ and use them in a game and shit like that.
fight a whole level with wooden spoon you find in the kitchen.

then it'll be slick.

but taking it to VR. VR can't be played long term. eye strains and shit.

I just hope this isn't a gimmick.
I just need to see it being implemented properly.
and all i saw was project milo.
which stunned me the moment she drew an orange fish... and gave it to milo.
that's pwn.

I will believe in this product when I get a chance to play it. The Wii looked amazing when it was previewed but in reality it didn't turn out as awesome.

it could prove to be some serious fun shit but....watching the video I see a lag within the movement of the person and the avatar and that could just be obnoxious, do it right though and they have something, imagine mortal kombat Razz

a lot of people will go to the extremes if they like something. They'll make their room work for this if they like it. If I had to, I'd take it down in the basement in our finished basement, move the couches and go at it, plenty of room.

You realize that's just conceptual right. That video has removed the fine print stated at the beginning stating actual product may have more or less features.

Well the way I look at it, just from a gamers perspective and ignoring the minority report, Milo type stuff;

You still have your traditional controller in a first person shooter (I'm going to say Armed Assault for arguments sake as I'm playing that at the moment and familiar with it) - so whilst you are running around using the controller to direct your man, the camera in the meantime tracks your heads movements. So if you lean forward you're characters head leans forward, and the same for back, up, down, left and right. But you can also move your controller around which means the weapon you're carrying moves around also, in ArmA this is the free-aim setting which means you can move your gun independently of your body/head... but what if you could also let one hand go of the controller and use it for something like hand signals say? Not to mention voice recognition for squad commands and other stuff like being able to manipulate on screen elements...

...would it be able to track all of this and process it and the game at the same time?

Tracking isn't all that heavy on overall performance as far as I know.

I've been using TrackIR for my flight sims for a couple of years now and I don't think there really isn't any noticeable drop in performance in the games i play. Flight Sim X, Lock On: Flaming Cliffs, Black Shark and IL-2 to name a few.

And even though that isn't using your whole body it's still 6 axis movement at the same time as you're using a 2 axis joystick combined with numerous other axis such as rudder, throttle and so on.

So while the full bodymotion is more complex I don't think it's actually alot more complex performancewise.
