Glad you're having fun mate! PCSX2 isn't perfect, not by a long shot, but an extremely large percentage of games are now playable - start to finish Smile

thanks to your guide im playing Castlevania again and its awesome. especially since its now alot smoother than before. Thank you Razz
And with emulation it should be mentioned that when your monitor is a CRT you might want to reduce your refresh rate to a multiple of the emulated console's refreshrate, which may eliminate stutter.

What is the native PSX resolution? NTSC/PAL ?

I wish I could answer that, but I can't due to each game being different. Some are 320x240, others are native NTSC/PAL resolution (720x576 PAL and 720x480 NTSC) and further still some are 640x480.

Native resolution of the PS1 is anything from 320x240 to 640x480, depending on the game, which is then upscaled to whatever output is used (480i/p for NTSC, 576i/p for PAL). Most games are rendered at 320x240, with some fighting games being rendered at higher 512x480, and finally some 2D games being rendered at 640x480. Smile

I hope resolution does not mess with fluid motion then Wink

In Castlevania I sill have a minor problem. Well minor as in a might loose my hearing after some time. Music starts skipping a little and produces some audio artifacts (?) when a certain tracks been played for a while.
Help would be appreciated, although i still have to play with the settings on that matter Smile

For those who havent played Castlevania yet... wont you consider to do it nao? no?

I finally solved the black bar mistery in epsxe. Apparently it's only in the ntsc versions. Now i'm playing in pal version and there's no black bars. Smile

Maybe a stupid question (but I don't want to search through 20+ pages), but what must I download (what PS2 emu and plugins) to play GoW and GoW2? Very Happy And if you would be so kind - how do I configure them?

1. The guide; http://forums.pcsx2.net/thread-2298.html

That will tell you what you need, where to get it, and how to use it.

2. New SVN plugins; http://re4rainbow.4shared.com/

Some games require newer versions of the plugins - and I strongly recommend newer PCSX2.exe versions too as they bring speedhacks and updates.

3. Google for scph10000.bin and scph39001.bin - bios files.

As of version 0.9.6, only God of War 1 is playable from start to finish. Good luck getting decent speeds, though: serious computer horsepower required.

Apparently, God of War 2 is not, due to crashes, errors and/or graphical bugs.

Aye; you'll need a GOD machine to run GoW 1 and 2 with fullspeed. My comp just about manages it, but not 100% of the time.

0.9.6 is too old, you WILL need the latest SVNs for both plugins and main executable.

I've finished both GOW 1 and 2 on PCSX2 but GOW 2 needed a bit of mpeg skips and patches to be fully working.

Had around 40-60 fps in both games, defiantly playable and I can't believe i missed out on these games.

FF 10 and 12 here i come!

FFX and FFXII are nigh-flawless. FFX runs on practically anything (the emulator was originally coded by reverse-engineering the game itself) and with the absolute barest minimum of glitches/bugs.

XII requires a beefier rig, unfortunately though it runs 100% speed 100% of the time on mine without VU-Steal speedhacks, so use that as a benchmark.

PLS help! I'm playing Spyro 2 pal on epsxe but the game gives opcode error when i try to enter a new area. And i'm starting to think it has something to do with copy protection. How do i make it playable. I don't really want to play the NTSC version since it has black bars.

First off, did you get to that new area in the NTSC version? We need to know if it's the CP or whether it's the game itself.

Well apparently it IS because of CP (like in the PAL release of FFVIII too) that's only present in the PAL version. The strange thing is, the devs of ePSXe say it should work fine now as they patched the emulator around it --- and this was back in 2003!

=Edit=

Ok, so try either of these PPF patches: (I don't know if I can link, so I'm afraid you'll have to do some leg-work on this)

1. Google for megagames
2. Choose "Playstation" under the Game Fixes panel on the left.
3. Choose the "S" category and then the "[ Sp-Sp ]" one. Scroll down for Spyro 2 EURO/PAL. It's by "BAD"
4. Google for ppf-o-matic
5. Use that to choose the .PPF file from the patch archive you got from Mega - and choose your BIN file for the Spyro 2 image.
6. Play.

ALSO! ePSXe has a built-in PPF applier. Follow this to use it without messing around with PPF-o-matic;

Quote:

Starting with ePSXe v1.5.0, ePSXe comes with an option to apply PPF patches to your game on the fly, as already seen in Pete's great CD plugin. NGEmu made a collection of important PPF files for you to download, but searching the web you should find plenty more. Using them is a bit more difficult, but easy once you got the system, and understandable for everyone who follows the step-by-step instructions below :

1. Download (and possibly unzip) the PFF patch EXACTLY for the game you'd like to patch. That means that you won't be able to use a PPF patch for FF9 german with your italian version ! Also keep in mind that some games (like Gran Turismo) have two versions.

2. Copy the file into the /patches sub-directory in your ePSXe directory

3. Look on the CD you want to use ... you'll find a file whose name is like SLES*,SCES* or SLUS*. Copy that name and rename the PPF file from your /patches directory to exactly the same name (also in uppercase !).

4. You're done, the next time you run that game ePSXe will add the patch on the fly !

But it appears it isn't working fine. Maybe there is a PPF patch?

Will need to get round to going for the final fantasy games after FFX on this, tried on my c2d rig before but it was a massive fail.
Perhaps the i7 will handle it better.

I think you will have problems with that 2.4GHz CPU. Even with the latest beta and all the speed hacks, it still needs at least 3GHz to even remotely reach 60fps. Smile

Do me a favour, go into your bios, and put your multiplier up to 9 to hit 3Ghz.

Not without some better cooling than stock. Stock Intel heatsink is only good for 2.6-2.75 GHz under most circumstances, and there is point in him risking his CPU for some silly PS2 game.
