1. The world sucks. you are just thrown into this world that looks shit, is messy and just boring as hell. The city in GTA3 is more detailed and interesting.
2. Game controls are terrible. Run with R and shoot with X? Is this a fucking soccer game? It is almost impossible to actually do anything you want to. Everything just happens the way it want's to. the aim is horrible (lock on aiming needs to die) and the camera is slow as hell.
3. Animation is crappy, the collisions are even worse and the powers and gimmics could have been thought up by a 3-year old.
4. Seriously, throwing cars is not cool anymore. they did that 5 years ago. I don't want it to be as simple as shit to do all this over the top stuff.
5. The whole game has a REALLY low budget fell to it. It reeks of bad game design, absolutely no sense of inovation.
I had more fun looking at a video of infamous (and I do not like sony or the ps3) than i had playing this shit for almost an hour.
"you want to throw a car at a helicopter? Sure, just press B then L and then B again. Now try it with your eyes closed"
And no, there has not been any reviews of this game from legit sources yet. As of last week, no major sites or magazines has even seen anything more than breif glimps of gameplay. I wonder why?

What I have played sofar is very enjoyable and a game thats not enjoyable isnt something someone wanna play so if you want fun then Prototype is the game for you.

infamous has the better graphics, worse enemies, less capabilities, slower gameplay and the city is wtf... grey everywhere... damn.
climbing houses is so much slower than running up a building.
Can't wait to play prototype more tomorrow.
It really sucked me into it and im trying to get as many points for upgrading my char as possible. Great updates available!
Freeroaming the city is soo much fun.
60 Euros for infamous would have been a total waste of money.

Because the release-group didn't have "exact" file-sizes for the RAR parts. Ignore it, just stupid "scene" posturing. The release works fine.

Let people enjoy whatever they wish to. Having a person say that xbox is better or ps 3 is better is complete BS. Because it comes down to what people like. I coulden't care about ps3 or the xbox. I got both of them they all have their positive and negative sides. And yes i have played both.

Quick question, I burned and patched the game (not sure what firmware i have) it boots and the Prototype logo comes up, but then it says "Game Error, The disc is unreadable.
Now thats just a bad burn right? i only have one disk left so i wanna be sure.
If it was A firmware or patch issue it would have not booted at all right?

Yeah, if it was the firmware issue - you'd just see "Mixed data disk" - it wouldn't load at all.

Quick little mini-review then.
This is a game for the people who want a Crackdownesque game with more focus on superpowers rather than gunplay. Just like Crackdown you won't see the real fun in the game unless you keep at it for an hour or two and get a few new powers unlocked.
I'm enjoying it through and through, sure it's so over the top that I can't even think of a good enough superlative for it but as long as you're cool with that this game delivers. It's action, action, action and more action. I find the getting around quite smooth and streamlined, sort of a parkourgame on crackcocaine. The animations while climbing, flying and running are quite good in my opinion, they fill the gaps between the aforementioned modes of transportation very well.
The graphics is.. well, it certainly isn't terrible but it sure isn't great either, this could have been done five years ago graphicswise. On the plusside though is that I haven't noticed any slowdowns and from time to time there can be an assload of characters on the screen at the same time which is pretty cool.
You get to experiment with a wide array of powers and, since it's an over the top game, the protagonist basically has every single power you'd want from a superhero
There's the Wolverine-like claws, the Mystique-like doppelganger-tricks, Spiderman-like vertical and horizontal wallrunning, flying (well gliding, but almost), extreme strength (throw a semi trailer across a couple of blocks) and much much more. If the powers aren't enough you get to play with a couple of weapons and vehicles, it's all right but it's been done before and it's been done better.
I don't think the productionvalues are all that bad? The CGI/Movies you get for unravelling the plot are nicely done and plentiful. The story is, while unoriginal, not terrible and there's plenty of sidechallenges to keep you occupied. Sure if you stand still in one spot and observe the graphics, sounds, traffic, NPC's and so on you'd be heavily disappointed if you compared to GTAIV and the like but this isn't that sort of game. It's a fastpaced, devil may care, freeroaming superpower beat em up.
I'd recommend this to pretty much anyone, it's fun, it's fast and it's one of those games where the more you play the more cool stuff you learn to do (think Assassins Creed once you really got hang of the climbing and running etc). Personally I'm enjoying this more than I enjoy Red Faction although Red Faction is probably the overall better game. I can't endorse the guys saying this is GOTY but I certainly don't agree with the ones who says it's crap. It's a 7.5/10 game easily enough.

Great game, it's quite fun. You can cause havoc and chaos, just like in Red Faction. But just like that game, it's as good or bad as you make it. It's great running up a huge building, gliding off it and landing with a huge crater as a result. Birlliant.
As for GFX, I think it's pretty good. Sure it might not have the highest res textures, but there's alot onscreen. There are vehicles and people everywhere, I sure feel like it's a living city (though there's no routine at all of course).
After playing an hour, 8.5/10. A must try.
I also really like the storytelling btw. The CGI scenes are very well done and interesting imo.

thanks javlar - that review is somewhat comforting because i've been looking forward to this one.
i haven't tried my copy yet. i remember my first impressions of crackdown after playing the demo for about 30 mins were ugh and yuck. i thought the graphics sucked and the gameplay was stupid as hell. a couple weeks later i decided to give it another shot and now it's in my top 3 of all time.

I'd compare it to Crackdown once again. You have your basic lock-on mechanism for singletarget combat whether you're throwing a car or using a superpower. And then you have the normal buttonmashing melee-combos which are useful for larger groups which works like most beat em ups do, just mash away and point the analog stick towards the badguys. Oh and a nice touch is that when you swap targets the game goes into slowmotion, making it alot easier to dissect the combat and getting the right target.
I forgot two things in my mini-review that I like about the game.
First off I like that it's gory, not as graphic as say Wolverine, but there's plenty of blood, guts and dismemberment going on.
Second I like that you're playing an actual evil protagonist. He's killing everything left and right and there's no reprecussion for say killing a civilian, actually it's rewarded. Can't remember last time that happened since Carmageddon
I'm sure it'll change in the end and you'll end up saving the world but wtf, as long as it's fun along the way
