climbing houses is so much slower than running up a building.
Can't wait to play prototype more tomorrow.
It really sucked me into it and im trying to get as many points for upgrading my char as possible. Great updates available!
Freeroaming the city is soo much fun.
60 Euros for infamous would have been a total waste of money. |
You really should've played Infamous before judging. Electricity gets restored after certain missions. Climbing actually takes a few seconds; whooptidoo. You get more abilities in a few missions. There are quite a few actually, which you can upgrade. After that you have even more abilities. I'm getting both (well, already had Infamous) but I'm quite sure Infamous is the better game.

I have to add that this game more or less flew totally under my hyperadar so that's another thing that makes this game better for me personally. I didn't expect jack shit from this

Hmmm, from the descriptions you folks are giving, I think I'm going to leave this one on the backburner. I also got a DISC UNREADABLE, but with these reviews I'll pass. I will also chime in that inFAMOUS (for all its failings) did kind of ruin me on what I expected out of something along these lines.

Aww, I was disappointed
For example, the graphics. Yes, I know, before you self-acclaimed "tru gamers" attack me, it's not the most important thing, and I whole-heartedly agree. But that doesnt mean it has to look 3-4 years old. Sure, it's good to lower the details so you can have alot of things going on screen at the same time, but really - it's borderline ugly for being a game released in mid-2009.
The controls are acceptable, even though the aiming and actions can tend to be a bit wonky at times. And it really bleeds of Spider-Man gameplay. And I played through SM1, 2 & 3 and thought they were pretty fun at the time. But now that its a new game, new character with different skills, it really feels.. I dunno, not really great.
The storyline then, well no-one can say that it's a great one, it really feels like a run of the mill-one, not very interesting at all.
The idea is great though, i mean the description of the game was really what made me look forward to it. I only watched one trailer/developer demo, and i thought it looked great. But technically-wise, it feels dated and not very effort-filled as i was hoping for.
And NO, i'm not saying it's a bad game, it's worth a burn. But let's take into account that they charge money for this, probably the same ammount as inFamous. And after playing through the inFamous demo, i personally think that it's the better game of the two.
My opinion people, and it's nothing unrealistic and it's also based on first-hand experience, not fanboy guesswork

Everything about this game just feels sloppy to me.
Animations? Sloppy.
Graphics? Sloppy.
Fighting system? Sloppy.
With these types of games it always boils down to the same thing for me, how much fun can I have fucking around?
GTA games SHINE for this reason, it's so much fun to just fuck around. Even Saint's Row got the "fucking around" factor down pretty well. But this game... there's just no fucking around. Everything is lifeless.. and, well, sloppy.
I have to admit though, I DO enjoy very much grabbing someone by the throat, running up a building, and tossing them off into the distance, that's pretty damn funny.
Other than that, I'm not really digging this game. The story and cutscenes were so long, bad, and boring I quickly started to skip everything I could just to get back into the game.
It's pretty close to being cool, but I just don't think it's enough for me... Probably won't be finishing this one. I can see how other would really dig it though. More power to you if you enjoy it, that means you're enjoying being a gamer right now while others are complaining, it's obviously a win for you.
Game on!

I wonder if you guys are whining just because you got the game for free and don't give a shit, play for a few minutes and quit. If you actually spent some money on it, maybe you would have paid more attention?
On the other hand, so many games recently turned out to be crap - Terminator Salvation, Fuel, Velvet Ass etc.

true, but you can also argue the other way arround.
If you spend money on a game that's not good you're gonna play it anyways just to get a bit of value back for your money.
On the game I would say it's ok 7.7/10 maybe. The jumping/running arround reminds me a lot of Crackdown. The thing is I have already seen almost everthing in the game in trailers. The hijacking, the powers ... so far there was no suprise to me at all :/

Damn, ok... I can't just blindly ignore the haters any more. There seems to be a lot of discontent and disappointment with the game.
I've burned it anyway - I've spent 3 years waiting for this - so I'll play when I get back to England tomorrow.

I was really suprised after all these comments, just love it! Not interested to compare it to infamous or other. This is great fun with a good story and some decent graphics.

Oh the horror, you had "fun for an hour or two, at most three hours" for the price of 1.5 euro.

Goddamnit, what is with people that likes the game? Why do you feel the need to "defend" it? It certainly comes off as that anyway!
Oh, and about the fact that I didn't pay for the game - that doesn't make it any fucking different, it's still the same damn game.

I don't understand what's so bad about the graphics, it all looks good enough to me. I never cared much about uber high textures though. I agree about the animations, somethings wrong with them.
As for the game itself, alot of fun. I probably won't touch those generic events, those are redundant like in most games. Maybe that's why you guys think it's boring? The story is told very nicely through those memories and cutscenes. It's fun bashing peoples heads in and throwing cars etc.
Meh I don't know, maybe it's a love it or hate it game. Or maybe I lowered my standards a bit. I get the exact same feeling with this game as I got with Wolverine, "fun". It's been some time I actually had fun playing games. Sure most games on the PC might be technically (far) superior, but most of those are just shiny but lack any kind of engaging gameplay.

If the game is bloody, I'm gonna enjoy it. I enjoyed Conan - it had dumb story and was in fact quite boring, because all you did was slashing limbs off. But I enjoy that kind of boredom. Same thing with Wolverine, I don't care about the story, don't like x-men and other superheroes but still - it was all about blood.

I think the game is very good. The graphics aren't as good as infamous, but once you get used to the controls and "understand" the game, it's so much more fun than in the beginning.
It's so similar to Hulk: ultimate destruction, it's almost like they just put in different powers and different skin. I kind of liked Hulk, but Prototype is better.
Grabbing a marine's rifle, then running down the street in and changing targets in slow motion, killing 4-5 marines/police with one shot in one jump. That's awesome.
You can become anyone as long as you consume them, so having the military after you, hide behind a wall or something, then change form and walk free. Infiltration has never been this fun imo.
Iniltrated a huge base, but hundreds of soldiers. It would have been suicide to try to fight my way in (died a bunch of times, forgetting that bullets and such will hurt you), but just sneak in with infiltration, grab a guy and walk out. Or as I did, run behind a building and lure people in hile using my tentacle arm powerthing. Brilliant.
Don't whine about this game if you're not going to buy it, I'm buying and I like it. I hope it sells well enough for a sequel, so we can have co-op.

We are not trying to destroy your dreams, most of us new enough of the game to think it would atleast be an enjoyable experiece that you could pick up and play. I thought (or atleast hoped) I would enjoy it, but now I just feel like I was a dumb ass to burn and try the game.
And by that I don't mean that anyone who liked the game is stupid, but I just cant shut off a big enough part of my brain to not be bothered by the sloppiness of the programming or the complete lack of any positive design decisions.
And I don't know about you, but when I get a new game, even though I did not buy it, i tend to react the same was as if I actually had bought it. Since I actually would buy games if I had the money. Ironically, i'm actually studying videosgames and CGI in school and I will probably one day work in the industry.

What a retarded comment. Why would I need to shut off any part of my brain to enjoy this game?

Only a few people in this thread have voiced their criticism in a legitimate way, it's just a shame you have to filter through all the bullshit whining to find it.
I can't believe how spoilt some of you sound, and regardless of your claims; spending money on something almost certainly makes a difference to how much you appreciate it. It's exactly the same with rich spoilt brats who whine because the new Lamborghini daddy bought them isn't the right colour.
I'll finish this by saying I loved Spiderman: WOS despite all it's rough edges, so I'll almost certainly enjoy this. People who expect GTA4 style polish from all sandbox games are being unrealistic.
