I've got the built in Airport scanning my area for wireless networks on my macbook. There are 8 networks here, 1 with out protection and 7 with. They are just WEP passwords.

Is there any way to crack these? as simply put as that.. I know how to do it on windows with various WEP cracking software but on MAC I am not sure Neutral

Crack it on windows and use the keys on mac Laughing

on the other hand how have you been able to do it under windows? I thought the best way to do this was under linux with modified drivers?

heard you can do it on windows but it just seemed like to much hassle to me. Backtrack 3 is the simplest. Just burn to disk and run the OS from disk.

EDIT: Anyone can do it by just following this.

Good video mate. However... Is this going to work on a macbook? with built in airport capabilities. That is the question.

Don't know. Don't think i have even used a mac in my whole life! lol

@VGAdeadcafe
Think WPA has actually been cracked by experts, and i mean a proper hack, not just using a dictionary. Not sure about WPA2. The chances of you getting a password for a WPA encrypted network are slim to none though, realistically.

Yeah, WPA2 is not yet cracked to a degree that you could do it at home on your own, or with any available software.

WEP on the other hand is notoriously known for being shit easy crackable. There are various ways (I think KISMAC is the only available software for this task avail on osx, but now discontinued..)..

Unfortunately I think airport only works in passive mode for macbooks, I hope I wont need a PRISM chipset card to get anywhere?

What's that prism thingy ?

Can't you just use an ordinary wireless adapter (usb) ? Do these utilities require "good" wireless chipsets/cards ?
