Will I have to reinstall steam or just run the installer from the previous update from vengeance to unpack the necessary files from the gcf:s or what? I am very thankful that you bring this to our attention (mine at least).
EDIT: Tried it and it worked perfectly. Now you don't have to wait for updates for steam-games anymore. Is the "my games"-list change supposed to be temporary or permanent? Should you leave the ppatcher-files in the steamfolder after the patch too?

I can't get it work always get something like this when loading HL2DM: Steam certificate length to long 1/1024 | First I extracted the ppatcher to my steam folder and ran the patch. It now starts steam with all games in "My games"-list. I now selected to "keep this game up to date" for the css, hl2dm and hl2. After the update I ran the hl2 and css installer from Half-Life_2_and_CS_Source_Protocol_v7_Update-VENGEANCE and the hl2dm installer from Half-Life_2_Update_4-VENGEANCE. Don't forget to put your game in online mode again. I had to rename a copy of my steam.dll to steam.org. Before this last step I also got the error you describe.

Haha, I guess he handed another assignment to the Doom 3 guy (name?).
BTW, a new version (v4) of Garry's mod is out. At this moment It's the best mod out without questioning.
edit:
Steam just got updated after a holiday pause

Agreed! All this patching is getting chaotic. I know do not know anymore what to patch with what release and in what order and with what crack.
Releasing an "all in" patch shouldn't be hard, just a question of putting all the files in one archive, right?

You guys could just make it easier on yourselves and get the ppatcher I linked to a few posts ago. It will allow you to update your gcf's THROUGH Steam.

No need for repack, you can still play online... You see the file Steam.org in your Steam folder? Delete it. Then make a copy of Steam.dll, rename it to Steam.org and play!
Edit: Do this after you update steam..

Don't you know Valve? They are stioll making update for CS1.6 and it's not that long since they made one for half-life 1..... so it won't stop making some "nasty" update.... and that's what make this game soo perfect! Keep the update coming! (and use ppatcher damnit)

Garry's mod has now reached v5 and another cool SP mod has emerged. It's called Half life 2 substance. Check http://halflife2.filefront.com for updates.
Here's some info on "Half life 2 substance":
Quote: |
HL²:SUBSTANCE gives a new breath to the HL2 single player by improving every and each aspect of its gameplay. Shortly,no level plays the same again: I'm a fanatic of intensive action and my levels speak for me. Voidness and boredom in HL2 are no more! Challenge is much improved too: the SP veterans will be pleased, expect a Nova Prospekt-like requirement of skill since the very start. Gigantic, bloody battles never seen before will enrage on your screen: and you'll never fight them alone because teamplay is another milestone of mine. Rebel forces, vortigaunt pals: keep your friends closer than ever. Try the 7th level to see what I mean for this - it's better than a thousand words. The new variety of this SP will surprise you: the original HL2 experience is dramatically subverted. Don't try imagine what will come next: keep firmer your grip on the gun or you won't be there! New skins and sound are included to further personalize your new passage through City17. Welcome to the real substance action is made of. |
I must say It sounds great. These "mini" mods are always welcome!

Sort of... It's beta/alpha (0.35).
edit:
OMFG! I passed out when looking at the screenshots of this new hl2dm map called dm_depot (beta2). Here's the link at Steampowered with screenshots and download at http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=224083.

I just tried Hl2 substance and I was very satisfied though It's an alpha/beta. Remember the empty highway 17? Now It's filled with enemies like striders, burning apc's, zombies, combines etc. They've modified many levels that are available as saved games in the menu.
Other modifications are:
- Teammates on all levels
- New combine suits
- New taunts
- Enemies take more hits in general
- Redesigned weapons and new weapon sounds
Lots of stuff seem to be added and It sure does demand more of the system but It's more fun than regular HL2.
