A friend of mine said that you need to patch the new games before burning, because there is a new firmware version out. I didn't think it was necessary so I used my last disc on Sperminator Salvation but my 360 couldnt read it..
So whats the deal on this patching thing? I don't know what firmware version I have, but I had a guy flash my 360 in February and I assume that he used the newest firmware back then.
Also my friend said he had read that after patching the new games it is less safe than before to use Xbox Live.
can someone please give me a lil help of whats going on? If it's unsafe to use patched games I would need to pay the guy to update my box to the newest firmware

Not because of the firmware update, but because new games come as Wave 3. (So its the 2nd change, earlier people had to reflash from xtreme to iXtreme firmwire, now you need 1.51/1.6 to run the new Wave)
...or you could patch games to wave 2, but iv heard people have had some issues with certain games, and its not a good choice in the long run; takes more time, higher risk of being banned etc.

Alright, so the best advice would be to update to the newest firmware?
It's not possible to update it without having to open the 360 is it? I wish you could just plug some cable in it to connect it with the PC and then transfer the FW, but I'm guessing it ain't that easy

Yeah, I'd say the best advice would be to flash to at least version 1.5.1 or 1.6 (the latest).
Depends on what drive you have as the Hitachi 1.6 isn't out yet.
This can help not opening up your console every time. Personally I don't like them (hitachi owner therefore in and out of mode b all the time) but apparently they do the job.

So this sunday I'm going to get the newest FW available. Will the two Terminator and the two Bionic Commando copies I just burned work then? Right now it's four wasted discs, so I hope they will work on the new FW. Or do you also have to patch the games before burning, even if you have the newest FW?

so I just got the thing and it works fine, but now I see this other forum saying MS will soon release some fucking update that bans or bricks modded consoles. I'm getting tired of all the hassle

anyway i forgot my question due to this lil hoe.. my friend doesnt want to update firmware cause he already got banned anyway. So he needs to patch the games. can you do this from a mac? I found a patch on some youtube guide but it seems its only for windows

without mac bashing, as far as I'm aware you need a PC.
I've dug around for mac based apps and never found anything. This was about 4 months ago so there might be something out now or something I missed.
