|
 |
I remember almost burning down my wii trying to solder the modchip when I got mine in 2007. I havent followed the latest but is the wii full playable using the software mods out now? Which is the best site for step by step tutorials. I deleted all my links from my favorites when I sold it last year.

the gbatemp forum is a freaking clusterfuck. I haven't seen a board that cluttered and unorganized in a while.
It cost me hours upon hours to find the info I looked for.
I mean, can it be so hard to make an easy to comprehend guide that maybe contains a couple of pictures for easier use? O.o

I found a softmodding for dummies guide at maxconsole. Looks pretty easy and u dont need the twilight hack any more.

All tis is great but only thing wrong is all the shit games and shovelware on the Wii, you can't even see my Wii from all the dust on it, a console aimed squarely at kids and mums.

no for the homebrew hack on a pre system menu 4 you will still need zelda, sd card (1-2gb one). Then follow through a tut of your liking.
For system menu 4 Wii's you need to get hold of the bannerbomb hack.
HDD etc is all just optional.
I picked up my wii for 110 from the local guy I know that sells consoles. NEXT living in the UK has them for 140 though I saw recently. It's true the gaming is totally different to ps3/pc/360 games but it's still a laugh to play with the family on it sometimes.

softmod is easy as shit
step1: install bootmii (incl. hbc/dvdx) with twilight or bannerbomb exploit
step2: use waninkoko's ios downgrader
step3: install usb loader incl cios36rev10
step4: put all iso images on your hdd with wbfs manager
if you like ngc games i suggest to still install a modchip otherwise its running @ 3x
PS: @no real modders: pls dont tell us that 3x is the same as a modchip install, as it isnt (point final)

Would a USB flash drive not work? Does it have to be an external hdd?
When I tried plugging in the USB after formatting it in WBFS, the programs I tried (wanikoko's and USB Loader GX) both said that no HDD was present. The USB Loader gave me an option to select from two different cIOS.
Thanks. I'm new to this after only soft modding it on Friday.

that guide answered all but one question.
My console has the 2.2e firmware but apparently nothing works with that so I'd at least need 3.2e - and that is something I can't figure out. I mean, I could connect it to the intarnets but then I'd have 4.0 which I still presume I can't do shit with? As in installing WADs etc.
So I presume I have to do it before I upgrade to 4.0 (which I eventually wanna do because of the shop channel).
That means I have to find some other way of getting to 3.2 which seems to be a informational black hole.
I got the HBC installed via bootmii with the Twilight Princess hack and, well, that's where I'm at.
And gbatemp throws so much information at you that for somebody who's new to all this (like me) it just gets a bit too much information to handle.
btw. I don't know how but I somehow got it to work, whatever.
still, it leaves the question about the 4.0e firmware. What do I have to do before installing it?

installed it and it upgraded my wii to 3.2.

Also check out cIOS Downgrader, worked good for me. I actually followed this guide, the online part, and I stopped after step 3 and then did preloader so I'm now 3.2u and everything works good. The download he provides has all the apps you need in one zip, so its pretty nice.

But I need the 4.0 update to use the shop channel? Or don't I? That's the last part I'm stuck at because there's quite a bunch of old games I'd like to buy...

do you guys read from time to time? only 3 sites to use: waninkoko's/softmii for the illegal stuff and wiibrew for all the rest
wiishop channel on fw < 4.0 : http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Wii_Shop_and_IOS61_installer
but why the hell on earth would someone stay on fw < 4.0 if 4.0 is completely hacked. explain me why? yea i know, you all read the gbatemp forums which are full of dipshits. besides the 4.0 fw is way better as it got the sd feature

i'm still on 3.2 for only the fact when I upgraded bannerbomb wasn't out yet.. and since that date Wii has had no luv from me. I'll probably upgrade to 4.0 once the Wii is in use again. So it's fully hacked now?. Cool

do you have a guide for upgrading to 4.0 and still keeping all the homebrew channels and everything?

the wiiguide.cc worked for me. I did have to do the cios_fix step mentioned in the thread on maxconsole. After that it was just a matter of formatting a WD 160gb passport in wbfs and copying the isos using wbfs manager 3.01. MY firmware still says 4.0u and wiishop channel still shows on my menu, dont know if it works though after the hack. But I dont care as long as I can play all the backups. Tried madworld, punchout and EA Sports Active.

You can also use the wad installer to install any VC or Wiiware games, without updating to 4.0. If your on a US console and not using an NTSC wad, the wad needs to be region hacked with freethewads, after that it will work perfectly.
